Book Synopsis Coffee with Jesus by : J. Floyd Bennett
Download or read book Coffee with Jesus written by J. Floyd Bennett and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-01-24 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus, an open Bible, and a hot cup of coffee--there's no better way to start a day. This time spent with the Holy Spirit prepares us for the challenges of the coming day. It sure came in handy back in 2018 when the doctor told me that I might not live but two more years. That was hard news, but my faith in Jesus assured me everything was going to be all right. Whether God healed me or crushed me, it was going to be for His glory. In His mercy, He healed me. It did show me that time was precious though. I decided to use the time He gives me to encourage others to pursue a deeper relationship with Christ. I started taking what the Spirit shared with me during our morning coffee talks and sharing it with others through morning texts. Overtime, that dozen or so friends turned into hundreds of people. My wife and friends encouraged me to put these morning devotionals into a book so that others may receive daily inspiration from them. So I did. I'm not a scholar or anything special. I am just my Master's servant trying to help others get to know this great God we serve. So grab a cup of coffee and join us as we explore the infinite depths of God's wisdom.

Download or read book Holy Grounds written by Tim Schenck and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2019-04-02 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you're religious about your coffee, you're in holy company. If you like your coffee with a bit of inspiration, a hint of humor, and a dose of insight, you'll enjoy pouring a mug full of java and curling up with Holy Grounds. Popular author and avid coffee drinker Tim Schenck brews just the right blend of the personal and historical as he explores the sometimes amusing and often profound intersection between faith and coffee. From the coffee bean's discovery by ninth-century Ethiopian Muslims to being condemned as "Satan's drink" by medieval Christians, to becoming an integral part of Passover in America, coffee has fueled prayer and shaped religious culture for generations. In Holy Grounds, Schenck explores the relationship between coffee and religion, moving from faith-based legends that have become entwined with the history of coffee to personal narrative. He takes readers on a journey through coffee farms in Central America, a pilgrimage to Seattle, coffeehouses in Rome, and a monastic community in Pennsylvania. Along the way, he examines the power of ritual, mocks bad church coffee, introduces readers to the patron saint of coffee, wonders about ethical considerations for today's faith-based coffee lovers, and explores lessons people of faith should learn from coffeehouse culture about building healthy, authentic community.

Book excerpt: “A battle manual for every Christian.” —Sinclair B. Ferguson The Christian life is a battle. We are in a daily struggle against the world, sin, and Satan. But God didn’t leave us to fend for ourselves. He gave us his own armor—armor that Jesus has already worn on our behalf all the way to the cross. The same power that raised Christ from the dead is now at work inside of us. This book unpacks each of the pieces of spiritual armor Paul describes in Ephesians 6, inviting us to take up the armor each day, all while resting in the finished victory of Christ and the assurance that our strength for the battle comes from him.
Book Synopsis Coffee, the World, and Jesus, but Not Necessarily in That Order by : Ron DeMiglio
Download or read book Coffee, the World, and Jesus, but Not Necessarily in That Order written by Ron DeMiglio and published by Kregel Publications. This book was released on 2017-06-27 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When many Christians take a long, hard look at the lives of the spiritual elite in America, they want to shout, “I don’t want to be like that!” Ron DeMiglio knows how they feel and he’s not afraid to do the shouting--even when those shouts are sometimes directed at himself. Coffee, the World, and Jesus is a collection of mildly contrarian musings from this international coffee businessman who happens to love Jesus. In these humorous vignettes about the relational, flawed, unwavering faith Ron clings to, readers will find glimmers of their own daily struggles to reflect Christ in a fallen world. For the religiously cautious, the disillusioned, and jaded followers of Christianity, this is a refreshing look at how God reveals Himself to be so much bigger than politics, dogmas, or western influences. Ron’s sidesplitting series of stories about how he found his spiritual groove smack-dab in the middle of his God-breathed, coffee-scented uniqueness will appeal to readers looking for a quick bite of spiritual growth with their next latte.
Book Synopsis The Gospel at Work by : Sebastian Traeger
Download or read book The Gospel at Work written by Sebastian Traeger and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2014-01-28 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Find God’s vision for your job. Reclaim God’s vision for your life. Many Christians fall victim to one of two main problems when it comes to work: either they are idle in their work, or they have made an idol of it. Both of these mindsets are deadly misunderstandings of how God intends for us to think about our employment. In The Gospel at Work, Sebastian Traeger and Greg Gilbert unpack the powerful ways in which the gospel can transform how we do what we do, releasing us from the cultural pressures of both an all-consuming devotion and a punch-in, punch-out mentality—in order to find the freedom of a work ethic rooted in serving Christ. You’ll find answers to some of the tough questions that Christians in the workplace often ask: What factors should matter most in choosing a job? What gospel principles should shape my thinking about how to treat my boss, my co-workers, and my employees? Is full-time Christian work more valuable than my job? Is it okay to be motivated by money? How do you prioritize—or balance—work, family and church responsibilities? Solidly grounded in the gospel, The Gospel at Work confronts both our idleness at work and our idolatry of work with a challenge of its own—to remember that whom we work for is infinitely more important than what we do.

Download or read book Prototype written by Jonathan Martin and published by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.. This book was released on 2013-04-19 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus is God and we are not. Most of us get that. But what we don’t always understand is that God loves us just as much as He does His son. Many times in the Old Testament, God refers to human beings as His “beloved.” But when God called Jesus His beloved, Jesus did something truly remarkable: He believed Him. He lived every moment of His life fully convinced of His identity. And unlike every other person in history . . . He never forgot. In Prototype, Jonathan Martin creates a vivid understanding of what it means to be beloved by God. To completely trust, as Jesus did, that God loves you. To live life without fear, confident in your identity and purpose. To handle life’s wounds as Jesus did, and to wake every day with a deep awareness of God’s presence. Martin reveals a startling truth at the heart of the gospel: Jesus is our prototype. And as we discover how the knowledge of being God’s beloved changed everything for Jesus—how it set Him free to live out his purpose and love God, others, and the world—it will begin to do the same for us.
