Book Synopsis Analytically Tractable Stochastic Stock Price Models by : Archil Gulisashvili
Download or read book Analytically Tractable Stochastic Stock Price Models written by Archil Gulisashvili and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-04 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asymptotic analysis of stochastic stock price models is the central topic of the present volume. Special examples of such models are stochastic volatility models, that have been developed as an answer to certain imperfections in a celebrated Black-Scholes model of option pricing. In a stock price model with stochastic volatility, the random behavior of the volatility is described by a stochastic process. For instance, in the Hull-White model the volatility process is a geometric Brownian motion, the Stein-Stein model uses an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process as the stochastic volatility, and in the Heston model a Cox-Ingersoll-Ross process governs the behavior of the volatility. One of the author's main goals is to provide sharp asymptotic formulas with error estimates for distribution densities of stock prices, option pricing functions, and implied volatilities in various stochastic volatility models. The author also establishes sharp asymptotic formulas for the implied volatility at extreme strikes in general stochastic stock price models. The present volume is addressed to researchers and graduate students working in the area of financial mathematics, analysis, or probability theory. The reader is expected to be familiar with elements of classical analysis, stochastic analysis and probability theory.
Book Synopsis Multiscale Stochastic Volatility for Equity, Interest Rate, and Credit Derivatives by : Jean-Pierre Fouque
Download or read book Multiscale Stochastic Volatility for Equity, Interest Rate, and Credit Derivatives written by Jean-Pierre Fouque and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-29 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building upon the ideas introduced in their previous book, Derivatives in Financial Markets with Stochastic Volatility, the authors study the pricing and hedging of financial derivatives under stochastic volatility in equity, interest-rate, and credit markets. They present and analyze multiscale stochastic volatility models and asymptotic approximations. These can be used in equity markets, for instance, to link the prices of path-dependent exotic instruments to market implied volatilities. The methods are also used for interest rate and credit derivatives. Other applications considered include variance-reduction techniques, portfolio optimization, forward-looking estimation of CAPM 'beta', and the Heston model and generalizations of it. 'Off-the-shelf' formulas and calibration tools are provided to ease the transition for practitioners who adopt this new method. The attention to detail and explicit presentation make this also an excellent text for a graduate course in financial and applied mathematics.

Book Synopsis Current Topics in Quantitative Finance by : Elio Canestrelli
Download or read book Current Topics in Quantitative Finance written by Elio Canestrelli and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume collects a selection of revised papers which were presented at the 21st Euro Working Group on Financial Modelling Meeting, held in Venice (Italy), on October 29-31, 1997. The Working Group was founded in September 1986 in Lisbon with the objective of providing an international forum for the exchange of information and experience; encouraging research and interaction be tween financial economic theory and practice of financial decision mak ing, as well as circulating information among universities and financial institutions throughout Europe. The attendance to the Meeting was large and highly qualified. More than 80 participants, coming from 20 different Countries debated on 5 invited lectures and 40 communications in regular sessions. The sessions were located at the Island of San Servolo, on the Venetian lagoon, just in front of the Doges Palace. San Servolo Island is a natural oasis, in the midst of a unique urban setting, offering great relaxation in a peaceful park and a panoramic view of Venice. The friendly atmosphere added great benefit to the formal and informal discussions among the participants, -which is typical of E.W.G.F.M. Meetings. It is interesting to consider the story of the Meeting. The previous locations were held at Cyprus, Crete and Dubrovnik - former mile stones of the Venitian Republic influence on the Mediterranean Sea. Therefore, that this Meeting should be harboured in the heart of the Republic itself (namely, the Saint Mark basin), was only a matter of consequence.

Book Synopsis Advances in Network Analysis and its Applications by : Evangelos Kranakis
Download or read book Advances in Network Analysis and its Applications written by Evangelos Kranakis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-23 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As well as highlighting potentially useful applications for network analysis, this volume identifies new targets for mathematical research that promise to provide insights into network systems theory as well as facilitating the cross-fertilization of ideas between sectors. Focusing on financial, security and social aspects of networking, the volume adds to the growing body of evidence showing that network analysis has applications to transportation, communication, health, finance, and social policy more broadly. It provides powerful models for understanding the behavior of complex systems that, in turn, will impact numerous cutting-edge sectors in science and engineering, such as wireless communication, network security, distributed computing and social networking, financial analysis, and cyber warfare. The volume offers an insider’s view of cutting-edge research in network systems, including methodologies with immense potential for interdisciplinary application. The contributors have all presented material at a series of workshops organized on behalf of Canada’s MITACS initiative, which funds projects and study grants in ‘mathematics for information technology and complex systems’. These proceedings include papers from workshops on financial networks, network security and cryptography, and social networks. MITACS has shown that the partly ghettoized nature of network systems research has led to duplicated work in discrete fields, and thus this initiative has the potential to save time and accelerate the pace of research in a number of areas of network systems research.
Book Synopsis Portfolio Risk Analysis by : Gregory Connor
Download or read book Portfolio Risk Analysis written by Gregory Connor and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2010-03-15 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Portfolio risk forecasting has been and continues to be an active research field for both academics and practitioners. Almost all institutional investment management firms use quantitative models for their portfolio forecasting, and researchers have explored models' econometric foundations, relative performance, and implications for capital market behavior and asset pricing equilibrium. Portfolio Risk Analysis provides an insightful and thorough overview of financial risk modeling, with an emphasis on practical applications, empirical reality, and historical perspective. Beginning with mean-variance analysis and the capital asset pricing model, the authors give a comprehensive and detailed account of factor models, which are the key to successful risk analysis in every economic climate. Topics range from the relative merits of fundamental, statistical, and macroeconomic models, to GARCH and other time series models, to the properties of the VIX volatility index. The book covers both mainstream and alternative asset classes, and includes in-depth treatments of model integration and evaluation. Credit and liquidity risk and the uncertainty of extreme events are examined in an intuitive and rigorous way. An extensive literature review accompanies each topic. The authors complement basic modeling techniques with references to applications, empirical studies, and advanced mathematical texts. This book is essential for financial practitioners, researchers, scholars, and students who want to understand the nature of financial markets or work toward improving them.
Book Synopsis Large Deviations and Asymptotic Methods in Finance by : Peter K. Friz
Download or read book Large Deviations and Asymptotic Methods in Finance written by Peter K. Friz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Topics covered in this volume (large deviations, differential geometry, asymptotic expansions, central limit theorems) give a full picture of the current advances in the application of asymptotic methods in mathematical finance, and thereby provide rigorous solutions to important mathematical and financial issues, such as implied volatility asymptotics, local volatility extrapolation, systemic risk and volatility estimation. This volume gathers together ground-breaking results in this field by some of its leading experts. Over the past decade, asymptotic methods have played an increasingly important role in the study of the behaviour of (financial) models. These methods provide a useful alternative to numerical methods in settings where the latter may lose accuracy (in extremes such as small and large strikes, and small maturities), and lead to a clearer understanding of the behaviour of models, and of the influence of parameters on this behaviour. Graduate students, researchers and practitioners will find this book very useful, and the diversity of topics will appeal to people from mathematical finance, probability theory and differential geometry.
