Book Synopsis The Theory and Practice of Cultural-historical Psychology by : Seth Chaiklin
Download or read book The Theory and Practice of Cultural-historical Psychology written by Seth Chaiklin and published by Aarhus Universitetsforlag. This book was released on 2001 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers a selection of theoretical views and empirical investigations by researchers in Europe, South America and North America. The theoretical chapters seek to clarify and extend central concepts of the cultural-historical tradition, such as activity, internalisation, personality, the ideal, theory-practice, and forces and relations of production. The empirical chapters, many of them concerned with the role of communication in developing psychological functions, seek to engage, criticise and extend theoretical concepts such as language construction, role, competition and cooperation, internalization, intersubjectivity, heterogeneity of thinking and subjecting aspects of learning. Based on revised and extended papers presented at the 4th International Congress of the Society for Cultural Research and Activity Theory, this volume provides a useful introduction to a broad range of open research topics in contemporary cultural-historical psychology.

Book Synopsis Humor, Satire, and Identity by : Jill Twark
Download or read book Humor, Satire, and Identity written by Jill Twark and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-02-14 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book in English to survey the Eastern German literary trend of employing humor and satire to come to terms with experiences in the German Democratic Republic and after the fall of the Berlin Wall. As sophisticated attempts to make sense of socialism’s failure and a difficult unification process, these contemporary texts help define Germany today from a specific, Eastern German perspective. Grounded in politics and history, ten humorous and satirical novels are analyzed for their literary aesthetics and language, cultural critiques, and socio-political insights. The texts include popular novels such as Thomas Brussig’s Helden wie wir, Ingo Schulze’s Simple Storys, and Jens Sparschuh’s Der Zimmerspringbrunnen, as well as lesser-known but equally relevant works like Schlehweins Giraffe by Bernd Schirmer and Katerfrühstück by Erich Loest. A broad spectrum of humor and satire theories is applied to probe texts from various angles and suggest multi-layered answers to the question of how these literary modes function in postwall Germany to construct a specifically Eastern German identity. Interviews the author conducted with five of the satirists are appended as primary sources and contribute to the interpretation of the texts.
Book Synopsis The Unreformed Martin Luther by : Andreas Malessa
Download or read book The Unreformed Martin Luther written by Andreas Malessa and published by Kregel Publications. This book was released on 2017 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Will the real Martin Luther please stand up? After five hundred years of examining the life of the “father of the Reformation,” we must surely know all there is to know about Martin Luther. But is that true? Did he really nail his Ninety-Five Theses to the church door? Did he throw an inkpot at the devil? Did he plant an apple tree? Did his wife escape her convent in a herring barrel? German radio and television journalist Andreas Malessa looks at the actual history of Luther and concludes that many of the tales we know best are nothing but nonsense. Diving gleefully into the research, Malessa investigates many of the falsehoods and fallacies surrounding the reformer, rejecting them in favor of equally incredible facts. Full of humor and irony, this book educates and entertains while demonstrating a profound respect for Luther's life and mission. If you're looking for the truth of the man behind the theses, come discover his faith and influence--with the myths stripped away.

Book excerpt: A fun, practical and easy-to-follow guide to manifestation for a whole new generation. 'Like a best friend, Jordanna will hold your hand and guide you towards your dream life.' - Melissa Ambrosini, bestselling author of Mastering Your Mean Girl 'Witty, practical and laugh out loud funny.' - Cassie Mendoza-Jones, You Are Enough Everyone can manifest. We're all doing it-every second of every day-without even realising it. For years, journalist and podcaster Jordanna Levin thought that she was psychic. She would worry about things and they would come true. But she wouldn't just worry; she would feel them, take subconscious action towards them and believe with every cell of her being that they would happen-and most of the time, they did. A broken foot, a cancelled flight, a tragic love story... the list went on. She soon realised that she wasn't just predicting the future, she was manifesting it. Until one day she changed the game. If she could manifest mishaps and disasters, why not the things she actually wanted? In this warm and witty book, Jordanna shares her personal experiences and struggles along with her foolproof equation for manifesting whatever you desire, from your dream job to a lasting relationship. Whether you're a matter-of-fact skeptic or a somewhat hippie yoga-lover, Make It Happen will empower you to take ownership of your life and create anything you want.
