Book excerpt: Excerpt from Freshman English and Theme-Correcting: In Harvard College In English A, the Freshman course in English Composition at Harvard College, there were last year six hundred and twenty or thirty students, and eleven instructors. There are two possible reasons, then, why a review of this course in its aims, methods, and attainments, might not be of any service to students or teachers of English Composition: first, the scale on which the course is constructed is probably much larger than would be necessary in most other cases; and second, the independence of the instructors, each of whom is apparently allowed to teach according to his own judgment, would not seem to promise a generally available method. In point of fact, however, these two possibilities are slight. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
