Book excerpt: NEW RELEASE 2019 Thinking about becoming an Uber driver and/or Lyft driver? You have questions? Let's cut right to the chase! This book, How to Be a Lyft and Uber Driver - The Unofficial Driver's Manual doesn't waste any time repeating content found on the Uber and Lyft websites. This first-of-a-kind book documents everything the author wished he knew before his first trip as a Lyft and Uber driver. All of How to Be a Lyft and Uber Driver - The Unofficial Driver's Manual content is dedicated to helping you have a successful rideshare driving business; earning maximum income; with no stress. ============ There are other rideshare driving books on Amazon. Why buy this book? For that matter why buy a book at all? Why not just go to the Uber/Lyft website, sign up, qualify, then go out and drive? From the author: "If rideshare driving is such a great 'gig' then why do 50% of new drivers quit less than 30 days after their first trip as a driver? At the end of a year over 90% have stopped being a rideshare driver!" ============ An even better reason to buy this book comes from a 2018 research report from Stanford University Graduate School of Business showing that rideshare drivers with over 2,500 lifetime trips earn on average 14% more compared to new drivers. After reading this book you'll know at least as much as a driver with 2,500 trips meaning you'll earn more than enough to pay for the small cost of this book soon after you get out on the road and start completing your own trips. ============ How to Be a Lyft and Uber Driver - The Unofficial Driver's Manual is well-researched and professionally-written thanks in part to the author's 15+ years' experience in corporate America as a data analyst; technical writer; training content developer; as well as a technical training presenter and training coach. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The crowdsourcing of work - the 'gig economy' - has been hailed as a 'sharing' revolution, enabling 'micro-entrepreneurs' to enjoy greater autonomy and flexibility in taking on 'gigs', 'rides', or 'tasks', while customers benefit from the ease, convenience, and affordability of 'work on demand'. Is this the future of work? What are the benefits and challenges of crowdsourced work? Is the gig economy fundamentally different to existing models of work and should it be kept outside the scope of employment law, as many platforms claim? Humans as a Service offers an engaging and critical account of the gig economy. It charts the industry's dramatic growth, explores the diverse platforms that comprise it, and describes how they operate. In scrutinising the competing narratives about 'gig' work, the book demonstrates the importance of language: how claims of 'disruptive innovation' and 'micro-entrepreneurship' often obscure the realities of highly precarious work and the strict algorithmic surveillance and control to which workers are subject. And yet, far from being radically new, the book shows that the gig economy is but the latest (and perhaps most extreme) example of labour market practices that have existed for centuries. Turning to how the law should respond to the on-demand economy, it argues that regulators can and must bring this work within the scope of employment law, adapting existing norms where necessary, in order to protect both customers and workers. Finally, it explores the wider implications of the gig economy for markets and consumers, assessing oppprtunities and challenges - if this is the future of work, how can it be made sustainable?

At the same time, it was acknowledged that general measures may not suffice with the assessment of results to begin in 2020. While awaiting possible fundamental reforms of the tax framework, it is time to discuss anti-BEPS measures bearing in mind the peculiar features of the digital economy such as increased mobility, no need for physical presence, and dematerialization. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are a few creations that have become “products,” because they became dominant in the market, and synonymous with an entire product category. Genericized names include Frigidaire, which became synonymous with “refrigerator,” Xerox, which became synonymous with “photocopying,” and Kleenex, which became synonymous with “tissues.” That has been the case with Uber, which has become identical with “rideshare.” Despite rapid growth since 2010, Uber has not become profitable, is carrying a cumulative loss of over $15 billion, as of November 2019, and it is doubtful if it will ever become profitable. Despite becoming an “eponym,” a key component of the gig economy, and inspiring numerous copycats, there is no guarantee that Uber will be able to generate an adequate return on investment, and remain in business. The concept has fatal flaws that impair its legal soundness. In the end, consumers and society determine if any business succeeds or fails. Government regulations are largely non-partisan, and exist to protect society, the general welfare, and the free enterprise system. Uber and the ride-share concept may be plowed under by regulations that exist to protect the public interest. However, regulations sometimes backfire and cause unintended consequences.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a unique contribution that examines major recent changes in conflict, negotiation and regulation within the labour relations systems and related governance institutions of advanced societies. The broad scope of analysis includes social welfare institutions, new forms of protest including judicialisation, transnational structures and collective bargaining itself. As the distinguished group of participating authors shows, the accumulation of numerous crucial changes in the interactions of unions, employers, political parties, courts, protestors, regulators and other key actors makes it imperative to reframe the study of collective bargaining and related forms of governance. The shifting dynamics include the growing relevance of multi-level interactions involving transnational entities, states and regions; the increasing tendency of workers and unions to turn to the courts as part of their overall strategy; new forms of solidarity among workers; and the emergence of new populist and nationalist actors. At the same time, sectors of the workforce that feel under-represented by existing institutions have contributed to new types of protest and 'agency'. Building on classical debates, the book offers new theoretical and practical approaches that insert the study of collective bargaining into the analysis of governance, solidarity, conflict and regulation, as they are broadly construed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The US Supreme Court has systematically eroded the rights of minority workers through subtle changes in procedural law. This accessible book identifies and describes how the Supreme Court's new procedural requirements create legal obstacles for civil-rights litigants, thereby undermining their substantive rights. Seiner takes the next step of providing a framework that practitioners can use to navigate these murky waters, allowing workers a better chance of prevailing with their claims. Seiner clearly illustrates how to effectively use his framework, applying the proposed model to one emerging sector - the on-demand industry. Many minority workers now face pervasive discrimination in an uncertain legal environment. This book will serve as a roadmap for successful workplace litigation and a valuable resource for civil-rights research. It will also spark a debate among scholars, lawyers, and others in the legal community over the use of procedure to alter substantive worker rights.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2020 campaign began with the 2016 election of Donald J. Trump and effectively rendered a verdict on his presidency. The Democartic Party sifted through a small army of worthies to defeat Trump and in former Vice-President Joe Biden they found their champion. Biden claimed the nomination following a phoenix-like rise propelled by a miraculous South Carolina primary victory. Backed by the party establishment and the mainstream media, Biden’s weak campaign proved sufficient by a handful of votes in a handful of states and leaving Biden with little mandate other than to avoid being like Trump. The story of the 2020 election is in part a story of America and the Trump presidency, a stormy marriage of highs and lows shaped by contrived investigations into Russian government interference, a failed impeachment, a welcomed intolerance for sexual harassment, the exposure of deep racial divisions highlighted by widespread and often violent rioting accompanied by a re-examination of the role of the police, a strong economy until crushed by the coronavirus pandemic, and then the pandemic tragedy itself. The Trump presidency’s four years astounded, for better or for worse, depending on point of view. This book chronicles the 2020 election and thus the events that shaped the election over the course of four years, written contemporaneously to capture the flavor of the moment, praising and criticizing Trump and his many antagonists in equal measure. Those enamored of the former president will find succor and outrage, as will those who delighted in his defeat. Those seeking to understand what happened will find the reading interesting, infuriating, and perhaps in places, illuminating.
