Download or read book State-of-the-art Track Technology and Its Application to Improve Track Component Performance and Track Maintenance Management written by A. Moucessian and published by Kingston, Ont. : Canadian Institute for Guided Ground Transport. This book was released on 1987 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue- and wear-associated defects, plastic, flow and the existence of shatter cracks in the steel are the main causes of rail deterioration. Research findings on the degradation nature of each of the track components (rail, tie, ballast, sub-ballast, and subgrade) are reviewed, together with the use of geotextiles in track rehabilitation. The review is extended to methods of performance evaluation and improvement of each track component. Some of the track component degradation processes are then mathematically modelled in a number of computer programs which together make up a track system model that may be used for better and more efficient management of track maintenance.
