They need a deep understanding of the goals and principles of teaching literature, writing, oral discourse, and language in order to make sound instructional decisions. This engaging book explores the pedagogical foundations of the discipline and gives novice and future teachers specific guidance for creating effective, interesting learning experiences. The authors consider such questions as what makes a literary text worth studying, what students gain from literary analysis, how to make writing meaningful, and how to weave listening and speaking into every class meeting. Professional learning and course use are facilitated by end-of-chapter reflection questions, text boxes, and appendices showcasing exemplary learning activities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author had identified six Foundations Pillars that are the essential and minimum requirements for all nations, to ensure development and improvements for all their citizenry. These are appropriate building blocks, regardless of the type of government the nation has, or the level of industrialisation and progress of their economy. This book focuses on India; it provides a dimension to the already ignited and meaningful discussion and debate for the 2014 Indian General Elections. It focuses on national and regional level issues to identify longer-term sustainable changes that are required for the essential improvements in India, for the benefit of all its citizens. Building on the principle of Ashokas Pillar and stone inscribed edicts found across South Asia, this book aims to engage citizens to the key priorities and importance of the six Foundation Pillars that form the basis of national transformational changes that are necessary to ensure improvements for all our citizens. Using the analogy of a house, a house we name India, these priorities form the six Foundation Pillars on which the new House of India can be built, they are the necessary components before citizens can the build a new Indian super-structure house above ground. The weaker these Foundation Pillars, the greater the chance of unevenness and movement, and consequently, that the building blocks above ground will crack, damage and eventually either need rebuilding or redesigning. The Indian approach, in many aspects follows behaviour of build-neglect-rebuild, where they build something, not necessarily to last, but sufficient for a period, neglect it, and then have to rebuild it, as by that time it is beyond repair. This is where the author believes India is at the moment, and this case study focuses on what citizens could do to change this for their benefit.

This book was released on 2014-12-18 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lord, please continue to have mercy on humanity. You have made provisions for everything we need in this world and the world to come. Yet many people although desire good life, are suffering, some are confused, others are desperate, families are broken down, our nation is struggling to cope, many people are lost in spiritual matters and sin. In this book, the authors main argument is that God, in his unfailing love for humanity, has already provided what people are frantically seeking in life. What people need to do is to turn to the Holy Scriptures for guidance. This book can be of such help. You see, when life is calm, our foundations dont seem to matter. But when crisis come, our foundations are tested. In this book, the author also argues that it is a waste of time and effort for people to build their lives on a faulty foundation. Jesus describes Gods principles as a solid foundation for people to build their lives on. We are strangers in this world; therefore we need someone who knows the journey of life to guide us. God is the creator of this world, and He alone knows the in and out of this world. His principles provide guidance for a perfect life. The attempts by some groups of people to suppress the knowledge of God in the society have not been very helpful in many ways, although they could not succeed. For example, these people could not provide the society with any viable alternative guiding principles on how people should live their lives. This has led many people to turn to wrong sources for guidance, sometimes with very little success or no success at all leading to a life of despair, hopelessness, and failure. Because of this suppression of Gods word, there seems to be famine in our society, famine of truth, famine of the word of God. There is also darkness in our society, many people are confused and some do not know what to do with their lives. But the word of God is light, its gives understanding, it gives hope, it provides guidance on spiritual matters, the salvation of the human soul, and solutions to all our problems. Sometimes, life is easier and beautiful if you know what to do in any situation you find yourself. Many people desire a good family life, peace, joy, hope, self discipline, strength, encouragement, a connection with a higher being that transcends human existence and meaning to life in their spiritual quest. As you read this book, know that I am praying for you for all these blessings in Jesus name, amen. Anthony Bright Atwam. According to scripture, the church is the salt and the light of this world. But the church seems to have locked the resources God has given her to be given to the world in the room and has put the keys in her pocket while the world is suffering. One of the things the church needs to do is to start to unpack and release the resources God has given her to meet the needs of postmodern spiritual quest. Anthony Bright Atwam.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Foundation contains the basic foundational truths in the Word of God that every Christian should have knowledge and understanding of and thereby be able to rightly divide the word of truth. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15) Jesus is the word; therefore, our foundation has to be built upon the Word of God (John 1:14). And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth. (John 1:14) As we obtain the knowledge and understanding of the Word, we can then establish a more intimate personal relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit and thereby be fully persuaded that what God has promised, he is also able to perform. And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. (Romans 4:21) For God has given us great and precious promises in the Word that we may be partakers of his divine nature. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (2 Peter 1:4) And thereby have faith to believe that if God has promised it in his word, then it's a done deal, for all the promises in the Word of God are always yes and in him. Amen! For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. (2 Corinthians 1:20)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using the concept of multiliteracies and multimodality, this book provides foundation knowledge about the new and continuously changing literacies of the 21st century. It details the five semiotic systems (linguistic, visual, auditory, gestural and spatial) and how they contribute to the reading and writing of increasingly complex and dynamic texts that are delivered by live, paper or digital technologies. One of the main tenets of the book is that social, cultural and technological developments will continue to give rise to changing literate practices around texts and communication, requiring a rethinking of classroom practices that are employed in the teaching of literacy. Therefore, the role of talk, together with traditional lesson structures, is examined and the concept of dialogic talk is introduced as a way of moving towards an effective pedagogy for the teaching and learning of multiliteracies and multimodality. The book also demonstrates that children’s literature can provide a bridge between old and new literacies and be an effective vehicle for introducing the five semiotic systems to all age groups. Comprehensive and accessible, this book addresses the issue of translating complex theories, research and concepts into effective practice, by providing the reader with four avenues for reflecting upon and implementing the ideas it contains: Reflection Strategies that enable the reader to gauge their understanding of key concepts; Theory into Practice tasks that enable the trialling of specific theoretical concepts in the classroom; Auditing instruments provide specific tasks related to assessment of student performance and evaluation of teacher pedagogy; QR codes immediately link the reader to multimodal texts and further references that illustrate and enhance the concepts being developed.
