Download or read book Rapid Visual Screening of Buildings for Potential Seismic Hazards: Supporting Documentation written by and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2015 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rapid Visual Screening (RVS) handbook can be used by trained personnel to identify, inventory, and screen buildings that are potentially seismically vulnerable. The RVS procedure comprises a method and several forms that help users to quickly identify, inventory, and score buildings according to their risk of collapse if hit by major earthquakes. The RVS handbook describes how to identify the structural type and key weakness characteristics, how to complete the screening forms, and how to manage a successful RVS program.
Book Synopsis In Situ Investigations of Foundation Soils at Two Building Sites, Detroit Arsenal by : Robert F Ballard (Jr)
Download or read book In Situ Investigations of Foundation Soils at Two Building Sites, Detroit Arsenal written by Robert F Ballard (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In situ investigations of the foundation soils at two sites for the proposed Track and Suspension Laboratory Building were performed. The primary dynamic investigations were conducted in two phases: seismic tests and vibration tests. Each type of test was designed to reveal specific information relative to the physical properties of the soil underlying the test sites. From the test data and the wet unit weight of the soil, compression and shear moduli of the foundation soils were computed for various depth ranges to a depth of 75 ft at site 1 and about 60 ft at site 2. Book Synopsis Decision Based Design by : Vijitashwa Pandey
Download or read book Decision Based Design written by Vijitashwa Pandey and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-08-26 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a presentation that formalizes what makes up decision based design, Decision Based Design defines the major concepts that go into product realization. It presents all major concepts in design decision making in an integrated way and covers the fundamentals of decision analysis in engineering design. It also trains engineers to understand the impacts of design decision. The author teaches concepts in demand modeling and customer preference modeling and provides examples. This book teaches most fundamental concepts encountered in engineering design like: concept generation, multiattribute decision analysis, reliability engineering, design optimization, simulation, and demand modeling. The book provides the tools engineering practitioners and researchers need to first understand that engineering design is best viewed as a sequence of decisions made by the stakeholders involved and then apply the decision based design concepts in practice. It teaches fundamental concepts encountered in engineering design, such as concept generation, multiattribute decision analysis, reliability engineering, design optimization, simulation, and demand modeling. This book helps students and practitioners understand that there is a rigorous way to analyze engineering decisions taking into consideration all the potential technical and business impacts of their decisions. It can be used in its entirety to teach a course in decision based design, while selected chapters can also be used to cover courses in subdisciplines that make up decision based design.

Main topics include: 1. Applications of gravity and magnetic methods.2. Electrical and Electromagnetic methods in mineral and groundwater exploration.3. Case studies on refraction and reflection seismic methods.4. Integrated geoscience applications in the exploration of subsurface resources.5. Hydrocarbon and petrophysical studies6. Earthquakes and seismic hazard assessment.7. Tectonics
Book Synopsis Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions - 2 Volume Set by : Claudio Modena
Download or read book Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions - 2 Volume Set written by Claudio Modena and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 1466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions contains about 160 papers that were presented at the IV International Seminar on Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions that was held from 10 to 13 November, 2004 in Padova Italy. Following publications of previous seminars that were organized in Barcelona, Spain (1995 and 1998) and GuimarĂ£es, Portugal (2001), state-of-the-art information is presented in these two volumes on the preservation, protection, and restoration of historical constructions, both comprising monumental structures and complete city centers. These two proceedings volumes are devoted to the possibilities of numerical and experimental techniques in the maintenance of historical structures. In this respect, the papers, originating from over 30 countries, are subdivided in the following areas: Historical aspects and general methodology, Materials and laboratory testing, Non-destructive testing and inspection techniques, Dynamic behavior and structural monitoring, Analytical and numerical approaches, Consolidation and strengthening techniques, Historical timber and metal structures, Seismic analysis and vulnerability assessment, Seismic strengthening and innovative systems, Case studies. Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions is a valuable source of information for scientists and practitioners working on structure-related issues of historical constructions
