Die bisherigen empirischen Untersuchungen zur Globalisierung zeigen darüber hinaus keinen 'race to the bottom' in der Steuer- oder Sozialpolitik und keine Verstärkung der Ungleichheit zwischen den Volkswirtschaften infolge einer Integration in den globalen Wettbewerb. Allerdings ist zu berücksichtigen, dass durch die Globalisierung zunehmend 'exit-Optionen' entstehen, so dass einer äquivalenzorientierten Besteuerung künftig eine größere Relevanz zukommen dürfte.
