Book Synopsis Statistical Design and Analysis for Intercropping Experiments by : Walter T. Federer
Download or read book Statistical Design and Analysis for Intercropping Experiments written by Walter T. Federer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intercropping is a method of sustaining or improving soil structure by growing two or more crops on the same field. It is a technique of wide application and of growing importance for both commercial and subsistence farmers. This textbook provides a comprehensive survey of the design and analysis of intercropping experiments. Its main themes are that techniques such as relative indices make it possible to cover a wide variety of conditions, and that statistical models for density-yield relations enable recommendations to be made to growers of crops. As a result, graduate students and researchers in statistics, biometry, and agriculture whose study involves intercropping will find this an invaluable text and reference.

Book Synopsis Intercropping Under Rice-Based Cropping System: An Experimental Study on Productivity and Profitability by : Manish Kumar Singh
Download or read book Intercropping Under Rice-Based Cropping System: An Experimental Study on Productivity and Profitability written by Manish Kumar Singh and published by Anchor Academic Publishing (aap_verlag). This book was released on 2014-02-01 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rice farmers are mostly involved in monoculture practices. This deprives the land for growing other food crops. Hence, a better alternative of mono/sole cropping is required to overcome this shortcoming. Therefore, a shift from mono cropping to inter/multiple cropping as an excellent strategy for intensifying land use and increasing income and production per unit area and time is appreciated. Production efficiency, economic efficiency and employment generation efficiency of any diversified system is a direct measure of its preferability. Keeping this view in mind, this study deals with the production potential and economic viability of different rabi intercropping in rabi cereal, legume, oilseeds and spices to identify the suitable/remunerative rice (Oryza sativa L.) based cropping systems.

Book Synopsis Cropping Systems In The Tropics (Principles And Management) by : Sp Palaniappan
Download or read book Cropping Systems In The Tropics (Principles And Management) written by Sp Palaniappan and published by New Age International. This book was released on 2006 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Land And Soil Are Non-Renewable Natural Resources. The Nature Has Taken Thousands Of Years To Create An Inch Of Fertile Soil. Mismanagement Of This Precious Resource Is A Sin Against Nature And Will Play Havoc With The Fortunes Of The Country. Many Parts Of The Country Have Already Come To The Brink Of Devastation Through Injudicious Usages, Over Exploitation Of Natural Resources Resulting In Unsustainable Productivity Of Crops.Modern Concept Of Cropping System Is Based On The Principle Of Effective Utilization Of Soil Water, Nutrients And Light For Sustainable Crop Productivity. This Book Gives The Basic Principles And Broadly Accepted Definitions Terms Frequently Used In The Literature. A Short-Review Of The Cropping Systems Work Done In The Tropics, Particularly In India Is Presented. In This Revised Edition, Contents Of All The Chapters Have Been Revised To Give Orientation Towards Management Of Sustainable Crop Production Systems. A New Chapter On Farming System Is Also Added In Tune With The Latest Trends. Information Available On Perennial Crop-Based Cropping Systems, For Example High Density Multi Species Cropping Systems Involving Coconut And Arecanut Is Updated. The Various Management Aspects Of Sustainable Cropping Systems Are Discussed And The Research Methodology That Could Be Adopted Is Elucidated. Possible Future Lines Of Work Are Given In The Final Chapter. This Book Will Prove To Be Of Immense Value Not Only To The Research Workers But Also To The Teachers And Students And Above All Farmers And Individuals Who Are Desirous Of Improving Sustainable Crop Production Systems.

Book Synopsis Agricultural Household Models by : Inderjit Singh
Download or read book Agricultural Household Models written by Inderjit Singh and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the basic model of an agricultural household that underlies most of the case studies undertaken so far. The model assumes that households are price-takers and is therefore recursive. The decisions modeled include those affecting production and the demand for inputs and those affecting consumption and the supply of labor. Comparative results on selected elasticities are presented for a number of economies. The empirical significance of the approach is demonstrated in a comparison of models that treat production and consumption decisions separately and those in which the decisionmaking process is recursive. The book summarizes the implications of agricultural pricing policy for the welfare of farm households, marketed surplus, the demand for nonagricultural goods and services, the rural labor market, budget revenues, and foreign exchange earnings. In addition, it is shown that the basic model can be extended in order to explore the effects of government policy on crop composition, nutritional status, health, saving, and investment and to provide a more comprehensive analysis of the effects on budget revenues and foreign exchange earnings. Methodological topics, primarily the data requirements of the basic model and its extensions, along with aggregation, market interaction, uncertainty, and market imperfections are discussed. The most important methodological issues - the question of the recursive property of these models - is also discussed.

Book excerpt: Maize is an important crop and the demand for as both food and animal feed is expected to grow by 235 million tonnes between now and 2030. In many countries it will be difficult to increase the area under cultivation, so gains will have to come from increased productivity and intensification of the cropping system. This book looks at all aspects of tropical maize production from physiology, growing environments, pest and diseases, plant breeding and crop management and it is a substantial information resource necessary for the development of the crop.
