Book excerpt: Cette étude porte sur la formation des microstructures intra-granulaires et des microségrégations lors de la solidification des premières centaines de μm en coulée continue d'aciers chargés en cuivre. Deux types d'expériences ont été réalisés pour assurer la solidification d'échantillons en laboratoire dans des conditions thermiques comparables à la formation de la peau en coulée continue : des essais de refusion superficiell par laser, des essais de chute de gouttes d'acier fondu sur un substrat en cuivre, instrumenté avec une photodiode au silicium. Les mesures réalisées avec la photodiode permettent de reconstituter l'évolution des conditions locales (gradient thermique, vitesse du front), lors de la solidification des 500 premiers μm de la zone corticale des gouttes. L'ensemble des expériences montrent qu'essentiellement deux types de microstructures peuvent se former en peau des aciers au cuivre : les cellules et les dendrites. Les microségrégations en cuivre ont été mesurées dans les échantillons refondus par laser et dans la zone corticale des gouttes solidifiées sur le substrat instrumenté. Des essais complémentaires de trempe en cours de solidification dirigée ont été réalisés pour l'interprétation des résultats. Ces expériences mettent en évidence le rôle important joué par la diffusion du cuivre dans le liquide résiduel de la zone pâteuse en régime cellulaire. La diffusion du soluté dans le liquide est à l'origine d'une forte surfusion chimique à la pointe des cellules et contribue à réduire significativement l'amplitude des microségrégations en solidification initiale.
