Escuelas que generaron un efecto rompedor y pionero al haber introducido en el país, para la industria textil, la formación profesional institucionalizada de las mujeres y niñas y la subsiguiente entrada de las mismas en el espacio laboral, al ostentar aquellas la doble función de escuelas-taller de las que salían productos elaborados destinados a la industria y al comercio. El gobierno ilustrado del último tercio del siglo xviii pone en marcha un plan para utilizar la potencial fuerza de trabajo del colectivo de mujeres pobres y marginadas con objeto de integrarlas en un macroproyecto económico para desarrollo del área textil y conseguir equilibrar la balanza comercial. Y encomienda a la Matritense la misión educativa de crear un sistema escolar dotado de un programa pedagógico reglamentado de formación femenina para el trabajo asalariado, como mano de obra cualificada y más barata que la masculina, con la finalidad de incorporarla al mercado laboral textil. La formación de las mujeres para el trabajo remunerado es un proceso que forma parte de la incipiente evolución que se estaba produciendo en la visibilización de las mujeres en el siglo XVIII.
