Book excerpt: Study using Statistics Canada input-output models to estimate the economic activity generated by processing of the forest into consumer goods. The 1979 interprovincial model was used to estimate the impact of forestry activity in each of the provinces, while the 1980 national model was used to estimate the impact on Canada as a whole. The models helped estimate the impact of forestry activity on some 200 different sectors of the economy in output levels (dollars), jobs, and gross domestic product (in dollars). As well, the impact of forest produce exports is presented. A brief methodology is included.

Book Synopsis Policies for Sustainably Managing Canada?s Forests by : Martin K. Luckert
Download or read book Policies for Sustainably Managing Canada?s Forests written by Martin K. Luckert and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2011-09-15 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three quarters of Canada’s forests are under provincial control, so provincial forest policies are crucial to long-term sustainability. By offering an up-to-date comparative scrutiny of forest policies, this book provides forest managers, policy-makers, scholars, and students with the information and concepts to critically examine Canada’s complex forest tenure systems. Looking at tenure, stumpage fees, and other forest practices, the authors assess how well different provincial schemes achieve the goals of sustainable forest management. They identify essential policy attributes that could be used to guide tenure reform, consider barriers that could prevent meaningful change, and offer much-needed practical guidance on overcoming these obstacles.

Book excerpt: "In September 2004, the Canadian Council of Forest Ministers established a federal, provincial, and territorial task group of assistant deputy ministers (ADMs) and commissioned the development of the Canadian Wildland Fire Strategy (CWFS). The ADMs created an intergovernmental team of analysts, experienced fire managers, and researchers, known as the CWFS Core Team, to consult with Canadian and international experts, collate information, conduct analyses, and present the findings. This team was directed to assess the current state of wildland fire management in Canada, examine the key influences and trends, and identify possible desired future states and how they could be achieved. This publication comprises a collection of nine reports written by the CWFS Core Team members and their associates. Collectively these papers include syntheses, analyses, and perspective articles that address a variety of the social, economic, and biophysical aspects of wildland fire and its management as well as policy, science, and operational issues in Canada."--Pub. desc.
