Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The very title of the book carries the message of contents of the book. Some of the noble hearts worked for freedom struggle of this country against their own countrymen, some for spread of education amongst women and establishment of Indian missions abroad for exposition of Indian philosophical thoughts and spiritual practices thereby bringing about a drastic change in age-old stereotyped notion of torpid Indian life. Some others rendered wonderful service to bring about a new lease of life of abundance by supplanting the age-old drudgery and poverty of the people in some region or the other in India. Some Western women sacrificed their whole life in and for India at the cost of blissful wealth and well-being in their own countries. Can we forget and ignore those noble hearts who shed their lives to render service to lift up an ebbing life of a vast humanity, with flames of faith? The book, in a very short span, brings to light those lost souls to affirm once again faith in man and his nobility.

This book was released on 2020-04-07 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After generations of foreign policy failures, the United States can finally try to make the world safer—not by relying on utopian goals but by working pragmatically with nondemocracies. Since the end of the Second World War, the United States has sunk hundreds of billions of dollars into foreign economies in the hope that its investments would help remake the world in its own image—or, at the very least, make the world “safe for democracy.” So far, the returns have been disappointing, to say the least. Pushing for fair and free elections in undemocratic countries has added to the casualty count, rather than taken away from it, and trying to eliminate corruption entirely has precluded the elimination of some of the worst forms of corruption. In the Middle East, for example, post-9/11 interventionist campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq have proved to be long, costly, and, worst of all, ineffective. Witnessing the failure of the utopian vision of a world full of market-oriented democracies, many observers, both on the right and the left, have begun to embrace a dystopian vision in which the United States can do nothing and save no one. Accordingly, calls to halt all assistance in undemocratic countries have grown louder. But, as Stephen D. Krasner explains, this cannot be an option: weak and poorly governed states pose a threat to our stability. In the era of nuclear weapons and biological warfare, ignoring troubled countries puts millions of American lives at risk. “The greatest challenge for the United States now,” Krasner writes, “is to identify a set of policies that lie between the utopian vision that all countries can be like the United States . . . and the dystopian view that nothing can be done.” He prescribes a pragmatic new course of policy. Drawing on decades of research, he makes the case for “good enough governance”—governance that aims for better security, better health, limited economic growth, and some protection of human rights. To this end, Krasner proposes working with despots to promote growth. In a world where a single terrorist can kill thousands or even hundreds of thousands of people, the United States does not have the luxury of idealistically ignoring the rest of the world. But it cannot remake the world in its own image either. Instead, it must learn how to make love to despots.

This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an authoritative account of the first significant overseas diplomatic missions and forays made by Indian civil servants. It recounts the key events in the formative decades of Indian foreign policy and looks at the prominent figures who were at the centre of this decisive period of change. The book explores the history and evolution of the civil and foreign services in India during the last leg of British rule and the following era of post-independence Nehruvian politics. Rich in archival material, it looks at official files, correspondences and diaries documenting the terms served by the pioneers of Indian diplomacy, Girja Shankar Bajpai, K.P.S. Menon and Subimal Dutt, in Africa, China, the USSR and other countries and their relationship with the Indian political leadership. The book also analyses and pieces together the activities, strategies, worldviews and contributions of the first administrators and diplomats who shaped India’s approach to foreign policy and its relationship with other political powers. An essential read for researchers and academics, this book will be a useful resource for students of international relations, foreign policy, political science and modern Indian history, especially those interested in the history of Indian foreign affairs. It will also be of great use to general readers who are interested in the history of politics and diplomacy in India and South Asia. Book excerpt: As James P. Grant, Executive Director of UNICEF puts it, "SEPIA PRINTS delightfully captures the development & challenges of a missionary project in India from 1903 through the early 1970s. It reads of a woman's deep involvement & dedication in a remarkable story made interesting with pictures & human interest incidents accumulated in chronological order spanning almost seventy years. Tomorrow's task is to inspire the next generation to sustain the progress & to become personally involved in improving the world. SEPIA PRINTS gives us the background & provides the basis for creating a better standard for today's children, tomorrow's leaders." SEPIA PRINTS will inspire & challenge. Nancy Kassebaum, U.S. Senator, says, "I found myself stopping again & again to read extended passages. Your affection for India is evident throughout." The style of SEPIA PRINTS is a collection of vignettes describing the life & times in India. These short stories are meant to provide insights & inspiration for the reader. Viola C. Wiebe, the author, spent many years in India, first as a child of mission workers, & later as a missionary, wife & mother. Her reflections project a genuine love for the life in India, for the people, for the land.
