This book was released on 2010-08-27 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2009 in the subject Politics - Topic: Globalization, Political Economics, grade: B+, Central European University Budapest, course: Political Economy, language: English, abstract: There is a big amount of literature in the recent decades about the broad effect of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the development of the recipient country. Interestingly, policy-making has come to ignore the ambiguous and inconclusive academic research results in terms of the benefits and costs of FDI. Almost every country nowadays strives to attract foreign investment most probably due to the success stories of some countries that have achieved rapid economic growth after encouraging FDI (China, Ireland, Hungary, Czech Republic). It is beyond doubt that transnational corporations (TNCs) possess much of the world’s stock of technological knowledge and are productively using it. However, it is not so obvious whether the host countries can benefit from that knowledge.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides authoritative academic and professional insights into the effects of foreign direct investment (FDI) on home and host countries. It highlights global trends and patterns, and explores related policy challenges all with a special focus on the countries in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. The book cuts through the existing data fog by offering a wide range of up-to-date academic findings and institutional expertise. Those findings are rounded off with lessons to be learned from historical developments (Ireland s success story), an evaluation of current trends (the role of China) and an investment promotion agency policy for attracting sustainable investment (CzechInvest). Contributions made by central bank officials, institutional representatives, members of academia and professionals provide for a uniquely complementary view on FDI developments and their implications. At a time of big changes in the FDI landscape, this book offers both empirical and econometric evidence on foreign direct investment and will be of great interest to economists and other experts in the fields of economic policy and European integration from central, commercial and investment banks, governments, international organizations, universities and research institutes. The special focus on FDI will attract those interested in, or directly involved in tackling the challenges of attracting sustainable investment or investing successfully abroad.

Book excerpt: During the last years Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) have rapidly increased in Eastern European Countries. Bulgaria, even though it presents a turbulent environment, receives increasing flows of FDI. This research will examine FDI in Bulgaria from the perspective of a week economy, the economy of Greece. The purpose of this study is to explore the internationalization process of a Greek Small Medium Enterprise (SME) investing in Bulgaria. In order to achieve the research s objectives, a single case study was employed. In particular the motives and barriers were examined as well as the future prospects of the investment. The findings came as a result of applying the eclectic model developed by Dunning, on the internationalisation attempt of the researched company. SMEs have inherent characteristics that affect their internationalisation behaviour. This study can be a useful source of information for anyone that wishes to gain an insight on the internationalization process of a Small Medium Enterprise investing in a turbulent environment.
