Book Synopsis Analysis of Turbulent Flow and Heat Transfer on a Flat Plate at High Mach Numbers with Variable Fluid Properties by : Robert G. Deissler
Download or read book Analysis of Turbulent Flow and Heat Transfer on a Flat Plate at High Mach Numbers with Variable Fluid Properties written by Robert G. Deissler and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A previous analysis of turbulent heat transfer and flow with variable fluid properties in smooth passages is extended to flow over a flat plate at high Mach numbers. Velocity and temperature distributions are calculated for a boundary layer in which the effects of both frictional heating and external heat transfer are appreciable. The viscosity and thermal conductivity are assumed to vary as a power of the temperature, while the Prandtl number and specific heat are taken as constant. Skin-friction and heat-transfer coefficients are calculated and compared with the incompressible values. The relation between boundary-layer thickness and distance along the plate is obtained for various Mach numbers. The analytical results are compared with representative experimental data.
Book Synopsis Two-Phase Flow Heat Exchangers by : Sadik Kakaç
Download or read book Two-Phase Flow Heat Exchangers written by Sadik Kakaç and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1090 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two-phase flow heat exchangers are vital components of systems for power generation, chemical processing, and thermal environment control. The art and science of the design of such heat exchangers have advanced considerably in recent years. This is due to better understanding of the fundamentals of two-phase flow and heat transfer in simple geometries, greater appreciation of these processes in complex goemetries, and enhanced predictive capability through use of complex computer codes. The subject is clearly of great fundamental and practical importance. The NATO ASIan Thermal-Hydraulic Fundamentals and Design of Two-Phase Flow Heat Exchangers was held in Povoa de Varzim (near Porto), Portugal, July 6-17, 1987. participating in the organization of" the ASI were the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Clean Energy Research Institute, University of Miami; Universidade do Porto; and the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Eng ineer ing, and Mechanics, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The ASI was arranged primarily as a high-level teaching activity by experts representing both academic and industrial viewpoints. The program included the presentation of invited lectures, a limited number of related technical papers and discussion sessions.

Book Synopsis Thermodynamics In Nuclear Power Plant Systems by : Bahman Zohuri
Download or read book Thermodynamics In Nuclear Power Plant Systems written by Bahman Zohuri and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-20 with total page 735 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the fundamentals of thermodynamics required to understand electrical power generation systems, honing in on the application of these principles to nuclear reactor power systems. It includes all the necessary information regarding the fundamental laws to gain a complete understanding and apply them specifically to the challenges of operating nuclear plants. Beginning with definitions of thermodynamic variables such as temperature, pressure and specific volume, the book then explains the laws in detail, focusing on pivotal concepts such as enthalpy and entropy, irreversibility, availability, and Maxwell relations. Specific applications of the fundamentals to Brayton and Rankine cycles for power generation are considered in-depth, in support of the book’s core goal- providing an examination of how the thermodynamic principles are applied to the design, operation and safety analysis of current and projected reactor systems. Detailed appendices cover metric and English system units and conversions, detailed steam and gas tables, heat transfer properties, and nuclear reactor system descriptions.
Book Synopsis PC-Aided Numerical Heat Transfer and Convective Flow by : Akira Nakayama
Download or read book PC-Aided Numerical Heat Transfer and Convective Flow written by Akira Nakayama and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-04-07 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PC-Aided Numerical Heat Transfer and Convective Flow is intended as a graduate course textbook for Mechanical and Chemical Engineering students as well as a reference book for practitioners interested in analytical and numerical treatments in the subject. The book is written so that the reader can use the enclosed diskette, with the aid of a personal computer, to systematically learn both analytical and numerical approaches associated with fluid flow and heat transfer without resorting to complex mathematical treatments. This is the first book that not only describes solution methodologies but also provides complete programs ranging from SOLODE to SAINTS for integration of Navier-Stokes equation. The book covers boundary layer flows to fully elliptic flows, laminar flows to turbulent flows, and free convection to forced convection. The student will learn about convection in porous media, a new field of rapid growth in contemporary heat transfer research. A basic knowledge of fluid mechanics and heat transfer is assumed. It is also assumed that the student knows the basics of Fortran and has access to a personal computer. The material can be presented in a one-semester course or with selective coverage in a seminar.
Book Synopsis Laminar Flow Forced Convection in Ducts by : R. K. Shah
Download or read book Laminar Flow Forced Convection in Ducts written by R. K. Shah and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laminar Flow Forced Convection in Ducts is a sourcebook for compact heat exchanger analytical data. This book describes the analytical solutions for laminar fluid flow and forced convection heat transfer in circular and noncircular pipes, including applicable differential equations and boundary conditions involving velocity and temperature problems of fluid flow. The book also discusses fluid flow—how much power is required to pump fluids through the heat exchanger, as well as the heat transfer—the determination of q" distribution, and the temperature of fluid and walls. The text also analyzes the coolant or heat transfer fluid flows in a nuclear power reactor composed of a bundle of circular section fuel rods located inside a round tube. R.A. Axford addresses fluid flow and heat transfers results for the rod bundle geometry in "Heat Transfer in Rod Bundles." The book also provides an overview and guidelines that can be used for the designer and the applied mathematician. This book is suitable for engineers working in electronics, aerospace, instrumentation, and biomechanics that use cooling or heating exchanges or solar collection systems.
