Book Synopsis Forced Checkers (Classic Reprint) by : Anker Jensen
Download or read book Forced Checkers (Classic Reprint) written by Anker Jensen and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Forced Checkers For many years the writer has thought that a checker compilation on forced lines, would enable the beginner to get away to a better start. The average player will spend twenty years selecting certain lines, and meanwhile he has delved into so many variations which fill his mind to 'such an extent that he has no brain space left for strong lines of play. I believe the reader will agree with me when I state that there is a limit to the human brain. Otherwise a world's champion would never lose a game. It took the writer twenty-five years to collect these games, which have been selected from all sources and I have given credit as near as possible. If the reader will concentrate on these lines and not allow himself to be sidetracked on other lines, he will soon be able to hold his own with very good players. Do not try to solve problems, but commit them to memory, at least one end-game problem daily. The play is arranged so that the student will have a nucleus to build on when ready to branch into two-move style of play. Book Synopsis Forcing Chess Moves by : Charles Hertan
Download or read book Forcing Chess Moves written by Charles Hertan and published by New In Chess. This book was released on 2019-09-01 with total page 730 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WINNER of the ChessCafe 2008 Book of the Year Award SHORTLISTED for The Guardian 2008 Chess Book of the Year Award Why is it that the human brain so often refuses to consider winning chess tactics? Every chess fan marvels at the wonderful combinations with which famous masters win their games. How do they find those fantastic moves? Do they have special vision? And why do computers outwit us tactically? Forcing Chess Moves proposes a revolutionary method for finding winning moves. Charles Hertan has made an astonishing discovery: the failure to consider key moves is often due to human bias. Your brain tends to disregard many winning moves because they are counter-intuitive or look unnatural. It’s a fact of life: computers outdo us humans when it comes to tactical vision and brute force calculation. So why not learn from them? Charles Hertan’s radically different approach is: use COMPUTER EYES and always look for the most forcing move first. By studying forcing sequences according to Hertan’s method you will: Develop analytical precision Improve your tactical vision Overcome human bias and staleness Enjoy the calculation of difficult positions Win more games by recognizing moves that matter. This New and Extended Fourth Edition of Hertan’s award-winning modern classic includes 50 extra pages with new and instructive combinations. There is a foreword by three-time US chess champion Joel Benjamin, and a special foreword to this new edition by Swedish Grandmaster Pontus Carlsson.

This book was released on 2015-10-18 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1987 we have defended in articles that the Spanish queen Isabella I of Castile (Isabel la Catolica) was the new chess queen (dama) on the chessboard. Other publications were in 1990, 1994, 1997, and 2004. And of course, Marilyn Yalom studied our book during her visit to the National Library in The Hague (Holland) before she wrote Birth of the Chess Queen in 2004. In her book one cannot see that in 1987, 1990, and 1994 we already published material about Isabel la Catolica (Isabel I of Castile) being the new powerful dama or chess queen on the chessboard. In other words we can state here that we have been studying Spanish history and its chess literature for over 30 years. Since 2003 we have also known the development of the new bishop in chess."

Book excerpt: Written by one of the most eminent scholars in the field, Ethnographies of Reason is a unique book in terms of the studies it presents, the perspective it develops and the research techniques it illustrates. Using concrete case study materials throughout, Eric Livingston offers a fundamentally different, ethnographic approach to the study of skill and reasoning. At the same time, he addresses a much neglected topic in the literature, illustrating practical techniques of ethnomethodological research and showing how such studies are actually conducted. The book is a major contribution to ethnomethodology, to social science methodology and to the study of skill and reasoning more generally.
