Download or read book A Cultural History of the Avant-Garde in the Nordic Countries 1925-1950 written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2019-02-04 with total page 992 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Cultural History of the Avant-Garde in the Nordic Countries 1925-1950 is the first publication to deal with the avant-garde in the Nordic countries in this period. The essays cover a wide range of avant-garde manifestations: literature, visual arts, theatre, architecture and design, film, radio, body culture and magazines. It is the first major historical work to consider the Nordic avant-garde in a transnational perspective that includes all the arts and to discuss the role of the avant-garde not only within the aesthetic field but in a broader cultural and political context: the pre-war and wartime responses to international developments, the new cultural institutions, sexual politics, the impact of refugees and the new start after the war.

Download or read book Cutting Edges written by Robert Klanten and published by Die Gestalten Verlag-DGV. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cutting Edges documents the new heyday of collage in current art and visual culture. Today's artists, illustrators, and designers are increasingly drawn to this artistic technique by the challenges of seamlessly melding traditional craftsmanship with skilled computer montage. They are not only composing a wide variety of visual elements, but are also deliberately omitting, deleting, and destroying them. This book is an inspiring collection of these unique examples of contemporary collage.

Download or read book Sigurd Lewerentz, Architect written by Janne Ahlin and published by Park Book. This book was released on 2014 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sigurd Lewerentz (1885-1975) was initially educated as mechanical engineer in Gothenburg. Yet it was his architectural apprenticeship in Munich 1909-10 that set him on his path as an architect, opening his own office in Stockholm in 1911. Although his built work is relatively small, Lewerentz is revered as one of Sweden's most eminent architects. Cemeteries and sacred buildings became a core part of Lewerentz's oeuvre, including Stockholm's South Cemetery (1914-17), Malmo Eastern Cemetery (1916), St. Mark's Church, Bjorkhagen (1956), and Petri Church, Klippan (1963). In association with Gunnar Asplund, he was also the main architect for the Stockholm International Exhibition (1930), and in collaboration with Erik Lallerstedt and David Hellden he created a masterpiece of functionalist architecture, the Malmo City Theatre (1935). Sigurd Lewerentz, Architect is a reprint of the first ever monograph on his work, originally published in English 1987 and long out of print. It tells the story of Lewerentz's life and presents his entire work in text and many photographs, drawings and plans.

Book Synopsis Experimental Museology by : Marianne Achiam
Download or read book Experimental Museology written by Marianne Achiam and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-06-28 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental Museology scrutinizes innovative endeavours to transform museum interactions with the world. Analysing cutting-edge cases from around the globe, the volume demonstrates how museums can design, apply and assess new modes of audience engagement and participation. Written by an interdisciplinary group of researchers and research-led professionals, the book argues that museum transformations must be focused on conceptualizing and documenting the everyday challenges and choices facing museums, especially in relation to wider social, political and economic ramifications. In order to illuminate the complexity of these challenges, the volume is structured into three related key dimensions of museum practice - namely institutions, representations and users. Each chapter is based on a curatorial design proposed and performed in collaboration between university-based academics and a museum. Taken together, the chapters provide insights into a diversity of geographical contexts, fields and museums, thus building a comprehensive and reflexive repository of design practices and formative experiments that can help strengthen future museum research and design. Experimental Museology will be of great value to academics and students in the fields of museum, gallery and heritage studies, as well as architecture, design, communication and cultural studies. It will also be of interest to museum professionals and anyone else who is interested in learning more about experimentation and design as resources in museums. “The Open Access version of this book, available at www.taylorfrancis.com, has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license."

Download or read book Julie Nord written by Julie Nord and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the exhibition 'Julie Nord - Xenoglossy', we step into a strange home where nothing looks as you would expect. Doll-like girls with shiny eyes and their pets cavort in idyllic settings, only to be transformed into grotesque hybrids, fles-eating plants, and subterranean passages. Julie Nord (b. 1970) is an eminently gifted draughtswoman. In her virtuoso, painstakingly executed drawings done in pencil, felt tip pens, and ink, as well as in her delicate watercolours and video art, she takes the homely and the familiar and turns it upside down. The exhibition presents both earlier and all-new art works by Julie Nord. Taking her inspiration in children's book illustration from the 1950s, outsider art, horror stories, psychedelic art, and gothic marginalia and drolleries, Julie Nord's most recent works are imbued with a kind of magical social realism. They present a blend of motifs that balances on the edge between the bewitching aesthetics of a fairytale and the tabooed dark sides of reality. (Exhibition held at Aarhus Kunstmuseum).
Book Synopsis In Another Light by : Patricia G. Berman
Download or read book In Another Light written by Patricia G. Berman and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1790 and 1910, Danish painters developed a national school of art that matched the artistic centres of France, Germany and Britain. The range of outstanding works created by Nicolai Abildgaard, Jens Juel, Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg, Christen Købke, P. S. Krøyer and Vilhelm Hammershøi reflect and refract the great stylistic tendencies of European art of the 19th century, including Classicism, Romanticism, Impressionism and Symbolism. Illustrated with over two hundred key works of art drawn from the leading Danish collections, this is the only book available in English that surveys Danish painting across the 19th century. Written by a major scholar in the field, and featuring all the icons of the Danish Golden Age, this is an essential addition to all art libraries.
