She’s so loud, she’s hurting ears, startling wait staff, disrupting classmates, and annoying moviegoers. She doesn’t realize different environments and situations sometimes demand a softer, quieter voice. That is until a caring teacher introduces her to the silly-sounding word “Slurpadoodle” and the five volumes of voice (Whisper, 6-inch, Table Talk, Strong Speaker, and Outside).

Book excerpt: How do I know it's God? is one of the most commonly asked questions of new and mature Christians alike, and the aim of God Conversations is to both equip and inspire the reader and show them that hearing the voice of the Spirit is accessible to everyone who chooses to follow Jesus. Most Christians know that God speaks, yet struggle with how to recognise his voice in their everyday lives. What does God's voice sound like? How do we know if what we're hearing is from God? Stories of God talking to his people abound throughout the Bible, but we usually only get the highlights. We read; "And God said to Joseph; 'Go to Egypt'," and then; "Mary and Joseph left for Egypt." We don't get a blow-by-blow description of how God spoke. We don't receive a detailed explanation of how they knew it was God, and we don't get to see what was going on inside their heads as they acted on what they'd heard. In God Conversations, international speaker and pastor Tania Harris shares insights from her own journey about hearing God's voice. You'll get to eavesdrop on some contemporary conversations with God in the light of his communication with the ancient characters of the Bible. Part memoir, part teaching, this unique and creative collection of stories will help you to recognise God's voice when he speaks and how to respond when you do.

Book excerpt: Sapphire Daulby's 'gift' had relentlessly tormented her mind and soul, in spite of the powerful spiritual help that she was able to offer those in need, during a crisis. Her ability to predict future events through her dreams led her to experience events during her sleep, in places and times that seemed unimaginable. She was blessed with the ability to portray her 'visions' through her unique style of painting, for which she gained world acclaim, and which opened up greater opportunities for her career, as an artist, in America. The nightly journeys, and psychic connections she encountered, brought about a series of turbulent interactions with both the living and the dead. The quiet voices within her mind guided her through her life, calling her to where she could work her healing powers. One such calling concluded in a deep and spiritual connection and the ultimate union of souls. Sapphire and Todd Fraser's love story was nothing less than incredulous. But could anything so perfect last forever? Bags of memories from the present, past and future were carried through her life, weighing down her weary spirit. When people regarded her as an 'angel' she felt shame for, secretly, she longed to be free of the chains of the onerous work she had been chosen to fulfil. Setting her spirit free was the toughest challenge of all. How would she find the pathway to the Light?

Book excerpt: With the continuous development of social economy and the improvement of computer science, communication engineering and electronic engineering, automo-biles are also gradually transforming from mechanical products driven by internal combustion engines to intelligent products driven by electricity. The electrification and intelligence of automobiles have brought new problems to society: on the one hand, electrically driven vehicles have lower operating noise, which makes pedestri-ans’ perception of vehicles weakened; on the other hand, with the deepening of intel-ligence, the control of vehicles will gradually be yielded from drivers to vehicles, which will largely cause the lack of human-vehicle trust. If these two problems are not solved, they will largely affect the efficiency of future road traffic and even bring potential danger. Therefore, it is necessary to explore a vehicle external sound effect as the external interaction interface of future vehicles to improve human-vehicle per-ception and enhance human-vehicle mutual trust. This paper takes the external sound design of quiet vehicles as the starting point, and divides the external sound design of vehicles into two aspects: quality design and functional design through literature research and combing of sound design related theories and methods. In the research of quality sense design, the paper explores the sound quality categories suitable for quiet vehicles based on human perception of sound quality, and realizes the decomposition of quality sense design elements through psychoacoustic experiments, and constructs the relevant design models, which provides theoretical guidance for the design of quality sense of exterior sound effects of quiet vehicles. In the functional design research, this paper conducted an in-depth investigation and study of human-vehicle conflict based on China’s road en-vironment and traffic participants, extracted a total of four categories and six types of human-vehicle interaction needs, and accordingly designed, optimized and verified the interaction information, and explored the design strategy of functional sound ef-fects.

Book excerpt: He Speaks in the Silence is about Diane Comer’s search for the kind of intimacy with God every woman longs for. It is a story of trying to be a good girl, of following the rules, of longing for a satisfaction that eludes us. Disappointed with all Diane had been told was supposed to fulfill her, she begged God in desperation to give her more. And He did. But first He took her through a trial so debilitating it almost destroyed what little faith she had. He let her go deaf. Using vivid parallels between her deafness and every woman’s struggle to hear God, this book shows women not only how Diane, as a deaf woman, hears in everyday life, but also how she can learn to listen to God in the midst of her own loud life, finding intimacy with God and the deep soul satisfaction she longs for.

Book excerpt: An introverted young girl finds her voice through reading and the power of imagination in this stunning debut picture book. How do you find your voice, when no one seems to be listening? In David Ouimet’s spellbinding debut, a young girl struggles to make herself heard, believing she is too insignificant and misunderstood to communicate with the people in her life. Anxious about how she thinks she should look and speak, the girl stays silent, turning to books to transport her to a place where she is connected to the world, and where her words hold power. As she soon discovers, her imagination is not far from reality, and the girl realizes that when she is ready to be heard, her voice will ring loud and true. Ouimet’s stirring and haunting illustrations masterfully capture how it feels to be a lonely, self-conscious child unsure of how to claim a space in the world.
