Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this Book the Author continues his reflections on the growing global crises between Faith in God and Peace on earth . Having concluded his review of the global wars, crises and conflicts between Christianity and Secularity in his ten Books on WE ARE AT WAR , he turns in this Book to reflect on the Peace promised by Christ to His Followers. Over two thousand years ago , Christ said to His followers , I have come to bring you peace , the peace that the world cannot give. He also said, I have come to bring wars between father and mother, brother and sisters, daughters and in-laws . The Author reflects on these apparent contradictory statements. He takes a journey across the world to view the state of Peace and Faith in the past half a century. He concludes from the evidence of the global experience in the last fifty years period fully supports Christs statements. He then wonders why the Secular world forgets this fact and continues to drive Christ and His teaching out of their lives and public governance . He attributes this to the work of Satan , Gods only enemy .Enlightening the secular world on these facts is one of the challenges facing the Mission of the New Evangelization recently declared by Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI. Through these Books, the Author contributes to that Mission. He brings into his Books, his personal global experience gained from his travels to many of the nations across the world which are victims of the Global crises between Faith and Peace. He provides the following examples. In Europe, the nation of Yugoslavia is no longer in the world map. In the Muslim nations of the Middle East, historic cities like Damascus and Bagdad are now in ruins while other nations like Egypt and Israel are under threat because of growing conflicts between Peace and Faith. The Imperial nations before the coming of Christ like Persia, Assyria, Babylonia, Egypt and Greece are mere dreams today of their global power before Christ. Peaceful Governance continues to escape the nations of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tunisia, Sudan, and Somalia . In the advanced Nations of America and Europe millions of innocent children are killed every year by their own mothers before they can even see sunlight. The Communist nations like North Korea continue with the Pre-Christ rule of enslavement of their people and oppression and persecution of Christians . The developing nations of Africa and Latin America continue to be devastated by political corruption and the reign of armed youth gangs that are victims of drug and human trafficking and assassinations. Against these crises of Peace in the secular world , the Author views the continuing reign of Christs Peace amongst His followers. He concludes by reminding the world of their real enemy, Satan who had been the enemy of God and man since creation of the world. As we stated in these Books, Satan cannot bring Peace to the world but only wars, crises, Lies, Deceptions and False Promises as he did to Adam and Eve . The Author therefore reminds the world through these Books that God is the true source of their Peace on earth. The Author therefore calls on them to turn back to Faith in One, Almighty and Loving God . It is Satan that they should drive out of the secular square and not God.

Book excerpt: "Invitation to Peace Studies is the first textbook in the field to emphasize 21st-century topics and the latest empirical research, as well as the first to prominently apply a gender perspective to the topics of peace, war, and violence. The book covers traditional peace studies' concerns with interstate wars while offering an equal emphasis on intrastate wars, group- and gender-based violence, and on the many nonviolent movements which have shaped recent world history. Clear and accessible language invites students to become more frequent and effective peace promoters in their own everyday lives. Dozens of case studies and textboxes foreground contemporary topics such as climate change, cyber warfare, digital activism, drones and robots, the occupy movement, peace ecology, positive psychology, religion and violence, and terrorism"--

To bring the ancient messages of the Bible into today's world, each passage is treated in three sections: Original Meaning. Concise exegesis to help readers understand the original meaning of the biblical text in its historical, literary, and cultural context. Bridging Contexts. A bridge between the world of the Bible and the world of today, built by discerning what is timeless in the timely pages of the Bible. Contemporary Significance. This section identifies comparable situations to those faced in the Bible and explores relevant application of the biblical messages. The author alerts the readers of problems they may encounter when seeking to apply the passage and helps them think through the issues involved. This unique, award-winning commentary is the ideal resource for today's preachers, teachers, and serious students of the Bible, giving them the tools, ideas, and insights they need to communicate God's Word with the same powerful impact it had when it was first written.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sri Guru Granth Sahib is generally known as the holy scripture of Sikhism, the worlds fifth largest religion. But this holy scripture is neither a storybook nor just the philosophy of the Sikh saints or prophets. It is more like a collection of divine revelations and hymns, expressing the feelings of love and devotion of the Sikh Gurus for the Supreme Being, along with the similar yearnings and longings of the devotees and saints from all faiths prevalent in Indian subcontinent during those times. The beauty of this 1430 page hymnal written in 22 different languages lies in the fact that while it spiritually connects the human mind to the original source of eternal bliss, it provides a very practical and effective way to live in love and harmony with other fellow human beings irrespective of their faith, color, caste, creed, or race. The following are a few examples of the views of eminent writers and scholars regarding Sri Guru Granth Sahib: Mankinds religious future may be obscure, yet one thing can be foreseen. The living higher religions are going to influence each other more than ever before, in the days of increasing communications between all parts of the world and branches of the human race. In this coming religious debate, the Sikh religion and its scriptures, the Sri Guru Granth Sahib will have something of special value to say to the rest of the world. Arnold Toynbee- Historian I have studied the scripture of great religions, but I do not find elsewhere the same power of appeal to the heart and mind as I find here in these volumes [of Sri Guru Granth Sahib]. There is something strangely modern about these scriptures. They speak to the people of any religion or of none. They speak for the human heart and the searching mind. Mrs. Pearl S. Buck- Nobel Laureate In Volume five of the It Is The Same Light series (SGGS pages 801-1000), author Daljit Singh Jawa continues his humble effort to share the beauty of the SGGS with those who have limited familiarity with the language (Gurumukhi), history, or context. The following are some of the comments received on the volume 7 (pages 1201-1430 of SGGS): This translation of Guru Granth Sahib is one of the best English translations in my view, as it is in simple understandable English, each shabads summary message is given, there is connection between the shabads to reveal continuity of thought process in Guru jis message. Thanks to S Daljit Singh ji for the great work which will benefit future generations understand Guru Jis message easily. -Amarjit Singh, M.D., University at Buffalo, Buffalo, NY A monumental undertaking, reflecting a lifetime of devotion to the Sri Guru Granth Sahib and to the scholarly study of its voluminous texts. Both its rendition of the original Gurmukhi script, with accompanying English transliteration, and its erudite commentary on each of the Granths many hymns mark this work as a stunning achievement which will benefit all serious students of the Sikh religion and of world religions in general. -Barry Crawford, Ph.D., Washburn Univesity, Topeka, Kansas

Book excerpt: B.K.S. Iyengar--hailed as "the Michelangelo of yoga" (BBC) and considered by many to be one of the most important yoga masters--has spent much of his life introducing the modern world to the ancient practice of yoga. Yoga's popularity is soaring, but its widespread acceptance as an exercise for physical fitness and the recognition of its health benefits have not been matched by an understanding of the emotional, intellectual, and spiritual development that the yogic tradition can also offer. In Light on Life, B.K.S. Iyengar brings readers this new and more complete understanding of the yogic journey. Here Iyengar explores the yogic goal to integrate the different parts of the self (body, emotions, mind, and soul), the role that the yoga postures and breathing techniques play in our search for wholeness, the external and internal obstacles that keep us from progressing along the path, and how yoga can transform our lives and help us to live in harmony with the world around us. For the first time, Iyengar uses stories from his own life, humor, and examples from modern culture to illustrate the profound gifts that yoga offers. Written with the depth of this sage's great wisdom, Light on Life is the culmination of a master's spiritual genius, a treasured companion to his seminal Light on Yoga.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inspirational teachings in this collection show that the real way of the warrior is based on compassion, wisdom, fearlessness, and love of nature. The teachings are drawn from the talks and writings of Morihei Ueshiba, founder of the popular Japanese martial art of Aikido, a mind-body discipline he called the "Art of Peace," which offers a nonviolent way to victory in the face of conflict. Ueshiba believed that Aikido principles could be applied to all the challenges we face in life—in personal and business relationships, and in our interactions with society. This is an expanded version of the original miniature edition that appeared in the Shambhala Pocket Classics series. It features a new introduction by John Stevens, recently translated doka, didactic "poems of the Way," and Ueshiba's own calligraphy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2nd edition of Encyclopedia of Violence, Peace and Conflict provides timely and useful information about antagonism and reconciliation in all contexts of public and personal life. Building on the highly-regarded 1st edition (1999), and publishing at a time of seemingly inexorably increasing conflict and violent behaviour the world over, the Encyclopedia is an essential reference for students and scholars working in the field of peace and conflict resolution studies, and for those seeking to explore alternatives to violence and share visions and strategies for social justice and social change. Covering topics as diverse as Arms Control, Peace Movements, Child Abuse, Folklore, Terrorism and Political Assassinations, the Encyclopedia comprehensively addresses an extensive information area in 225 multi-disciplinary, cross-referenced and authoritatively authored articles. In his Preface to the 1st edition, Editor-in-Chief Lester Kurtz wrote: "The problem of violence poses such a monumental challenge at the end of the 20th century that it is surprising we have addressed it so inadequately. We have not made much progress in learning how to cooperate with one another more effectively or how to conduct our conflicts more peacefully. Instead, we have increased the lethality of our combat through revolutions in weapons technology and military training. The Encyclopedia of Violence, Peace, and Conflict is designed to help us to take stock of our knowledge concerning these crucial phenomena." Ten years on, the need for an authoritative and cross-disciplinary approach to the great issues of violence and peace seems greater than ever. More than 200 authoritative multidisciplinary articles in a 3-volume set Many brand-new articles alongside revised and updated content from the First Edition Article outline and glossary of key terms at the beginning of each article Entries arranged alphabetically for easy access Articles written by more than 200 eminent contributors from around the world
