Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sometimes you don't know what your story is until you start to tell it. When my teacher, Ann, passed away suddenly nine months into my beginner knitting class, followed by my dad and then my mom, the book I was planning to write - a lighthearted collection of Ann's knitting tips and techniques - turned into something much deeper. As I followed the yarn where it led me, I discovered the ways in which my life was intertwined with Ann's, and, in the process, I began to uncover my own true story. "Tattoo this on your eyelids! This book is really really good....It's got everything going for it; funny stories, heart warming anecdotes, awesome information about how to take care of your knits, and a mass of other little facts and details that range form interesting to 'ohmergawd how did I not know this '," writes Theo DeAndrea "This book is without a doubt one of the most wonderful reads....Thanks to Reba, not only did Ann teach her class at the Y, but now us as well," says "MySistersKnitter."

When author Linker first learned about manifesting, she manifested an extra $10,000 in the first week of class; how fantastic would YOUR life be if you had the ability to create what you wish? How exciting would it be to feel at home with your own manifesting ability? Reach for your dreams the way a seasoned traveler dashes for the window seat on a train. Settle in to your seat, unpack your picnic basket and prepare for a delicious adventure! Unlike other books that are all candy-coated promises, this book not only gives you the tools and techniques you need, it also takes you by the hand and gently guides you past the bumps that arise along the way that make some people think that they simply 'don't have the power.' Well, you do have the power, each of us does! Manifesting is an inborn gift, and, like any natural gift or talent, it takes nurturing and practice to develop to its full potential. And, like any powerful tool, it takes skill to use it well and wisely, for the sake of our own happiness and success. What makes The Little Book of Manifesting Big stand out is the simplicity of the explanations and clarity of images used. This wisdom is combined with Linker's warm, encouraging tone, and her joyful approach to manifesting. The book is beautifully illustrated in full color. The book is based on the teachings of Linker's spiritual teacher, Shanta, who she studied with for over 30 years. It presents the techniques shared by her teacher with clarity, simplicity and inspiration. Manifesting is easy when you know how, and the rewards are greater than you can even imagine. Manifesting is simple, but it takes a certain knack. In 'The Little Book of Manifesting Big' Linker gives the reader everything they need for success. Here's what readers are saying about 'The Little Book of Manifesting Big': "If you thought you knew everything there is to know about manifesting, think again. Book excerpt: “[An] epic account of life and loves among artists and writers in Paris from belle époque to world slump.” —William Feaver, The Spectator A legendary capital of the arts, Paris hosted some of the most legendary developments in world culture—particularly at the beginning of the twentieth century, with the flowering of fauvism, cubism, dadaism, and surrealism. In Bohemian Paris, Dan Franck leads us on a vivid and magical tour of the Paris of 1900–1930, a hotbed of artistic creation where we encounter Apollinaire, Modigliani, Cocteau, Matisse, Picasso, Hemingway, and Fitzgerald, working, loving, and struggling to stay afloat. Sixteen pages of black-and-white illustrations are featured. “Franck spins lavish historical, biographical, artistic, and even scandalous details into a narrative that will captivate both serious and casual readers . . . Marvelous and informative.” —Carol J. Binkowski, Library Journal

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today's moviegoers and critics generally consider some Hollywood products--even some blockbusters--to be legitimate works of art. But during the first half century of motion pictures very few Americans would have thought to call an American movie "art." Up through the 1950s, American movies were regarded as a form of popular, even lower-class, entertainment. By the 1960s and 1970s, however, viewers were regularly judging Hollywood films by artistic criteria previously applied only to high art forms. In Hollywood Highbrow, Shyon Baumann for the first time tells how social and cultural forces radically changed the public's perceptions of American movies just as those forces were radically changing the movies themselves. The development in the United States of an appreciation of film as an art was, Baumann shows, the product of large changes in Hollywood and American society as a whole. With the postwar rise of television, American movie audiences shrank dramatically and Hollywood responded by appealing to richer and more educated viewers. Around the same time, European ideas about the director as artist, an easing of censorship, and the development of art-house cinemas, film festivals, and the academic field of film studies encouraged the idea that some American movies--and not just European ones--deserved to be considered art.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each morning we establish an image and an identity for ourselves through the simple act of getting dressed. Why Women Wear What They Wear presents an intimate ethnography of clothing choice. The book uses real women's lives and clothing decisions - observed and discussed at the moment of getting dressed - to illustrate theories of clothing, the body and identity. Woodward pieces together what women actually think about clothing, dress and the body in a world where popular media and culture presents an increasingly extreme and distorted view of femininity and the ideal body. Immediately accessible to all those who have stood in front of a mirror and wondered 'does this make me look fat?', 'is this skirt really me?' or 'does this jacket match?', Why Women Wear What They Wear provides students of anthropology and fashion with a fresh perspective on the social issues and constraints we are all consciously or unconsciously negotiating when we get dressed.

Book excerpt: ‘KUMBA AFRICA’, is a compilation of African Short Stories written as fiction by Sampson Ejike Odum, nostalgically taking our memory back several thousands of years ago in Africa, reminding us about our past heritage. It digs deep into the traditional life style of the Africans of old, their beliefs, their leadership, their courage, their culture, their wars, their defeat and their victories long before the emergence of the white man on the soil of Africa. As a talented writer of rich resource and superior creativity, armed with in-depth knowledge of different cultures and traditions in Africa, the Author throws light on the rich cultural heritage of the people of Africa when civilization was yet unknown to the people. The book reminds the readers that the Africans of old kept their pride and still enjoyed their own lives. They celebrated victories when wars were won, enjoyed their New yam festivals and villages engaged themselves in seasonal wrestling contest etc; Early morning during harmattan season, they gathered firewood and made fire inside their small huts to hit up their bodies from the chilling cold of the harmattan. That was the Africa of old we will always remember. In Africa today, the story have changed. The people now enjoy civilized cultures made possible by the influence of the white man through his scientific and technological process. Yet there are some uncivilized places in Africa whose people haven’t tested or felt the impact of civilization. These people still maintain their ancient traditions and culture. In everything, we believe that days when people paraded barefooted in Africa to the swarmp to tap palm wine and fetch firewood from there farms are almost fading away. The huts are now gradually been replaced with houses built of blocks and beautiful roofs. Thanks to modern civilization. Donkeys and camels are no longer used for carrying heavy loads for merchants. They are now been replaced by heavy trucks and lorries. African traditional methods of healing are now been substituted by hospitals. In all these, I will always love and remember Africa, the home of my birth and must respect her cultures and traditions as an AFRICAN AUTHOR.
