Download or read book Follow the Arrow written by Eddie Crooks and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-07-15 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question, 'Who do you think you are?' is answered by knowing the history of your ancestors. Some know this from ancestral records tracing their family back in time over many generations. For others their family history is lost in the ancient mists of time. This book explores a tenuous trail going back in history when men and women survived or perished on the outcome of conflicts between powerful forces that exerted unconditional control over their fate. The book is built around a time frame spanning more than a millenium. It covers times and events when families were forced to seek new lives, sometimes setting sail to distant lands in search of freedom from hardship and oppression. It is from the consequences of such events that the author's ancestors were forced to leave Ireland during the potato famine in the 19th century to a new life in Scotland. Although this is a personal story it will appeal to readers with an interest in how the past has made them what they are today.
Download or read book Hope Is an Arrow written by Cory McCarthy and published by Candlewick Press. This book was released on 2022-07-05 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lyrical biography of Kahlil Gibran by award-winning writer Cory McCarthy, with glorious illustrations by Caldecott Honoree and two-time Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award winner Ekua Holmes. Before Kahlil Gibran ever put his pen to the page to eventually become the world's third best-selling poet of all time, he was Gibran Khalil Gibran, a child immigrant from Lebanon who had a secret hope. That hope sprung from his experiences in Lebanon, where Christians and Muslims crashed like two strong headwinds, and in Boston, where the wealthy crashed with the poor. His secret hope: to connect all people from around the world, bringing them together despite their differences and beliefs. But how could he bring people together when he himself felt fractured? He was Kahlil Gibran, the Arab American who struggled to make a home in America, and he was Gibran Khalil Gibran, the Lebanese boy who missed his home, struggling to hold on to his roots. Kahlil found his answer in writing poetry. Kahlil's secret hope, shot like an arrow from Lebanon, feathered by the spirit of American independence, became a book called The Prophet. And even today, Kahlil's words continue to fly around the world, bringing people together.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of my book, The Tip of the Arrow, A Study in Leadership, is to share with young people of today and tomorrow the story of young people like me at age sixteen as the blueprint of the Selma Student Nonviolent Civil Rights movement, a significant impacting factor in the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the dominating influence leading to the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. On February 24, 2016, during a ceremony awarding the Congressional Gold Medal at the US Capitol in Washington, DC, I beamed with personal pride upon hearing Speaker Paul Ryan's statement that Congress decided to bestow the award to the foot soldiers because their contribution to our country was so great that they deserved the highest honor in our possession, the Congressional Gold Medal. The Tip of the Arrow is our story.

Book Synopsis Social Choice and Individual Values by : Kenneth Joseph Arrow
Download or read book Social Choice and Individual Values written by Kenneth Joseph Arrow and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 1963-01-01 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The literature on the theory of social choice has grown considerably beyond the few items in existence at the time the first edition of this book appeared in 1951. Some of the new literature has dealt with the technical, mathematical aspects, more with the interpretive. My own thinking has also evolved somewhat, although I remain far from satisfied with present formulations. The exhaustion of the first edition provides a convenient time for a selective and personal stocktaking in the form of an appended commentary entitled, 'Notes on the Theory of Social Choice, 1963, ' containing reflections on the text and its omissions and on some of the more recent literature. This form has seemed more appropriate than a revision of the original text, which has to some extent acquired a life of its own.
