Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the flux pinning mechanisms and properties and the electromagnetic phenomena caused by the flux pinning common for metallic, high-Tc and MgB2 superconductors. The condensation energy interaction known for normal precipitates or grain boundaries and the kinetic energy interaction proposed for artificial Nb pins in Nb-Ti, etc., are introduced for the pinning mechanism. Summation theories to derive the critical current density are discussed in detail. Irreversible magnetization and AC loss caused by the flux pinning are also discussed. The loss originally stems from the ohmic dissipation of normal electrons in the normal core driven by the electric field induced by the flux motion. The influence of the flux pinning on the vortex phase diagram in high Tc superconductors is discussed, and the dependencies of the irreversibility field are also described on other quantities such as anisotropy of superconductor, specimen size and electric field strength. Recent developments of critical current properties in various high-Tc superconductors and MgB2 are introduced. The 3rd edition has been thoroughly updated, with a new chapter on critical state model. The mechanism of irreversible properties is discussed in detail. The author provides calculations of pinning loss by the equation of motion of flux lines in the pinning potential and hysteresis loss. The readers will learn why the resultant loss is of hysteresis type in spite of such mechanism. This book aims for graduate students and researchers studying superconductivity as well as engineers working in electric utility industry.

Book Synopsis YBCO Superconductor Research Progress by : Li-Chun Liáng
Download or read book YBCO Superconductor Research Progress written by Li-Chun Liáng and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superconductivity is the ability of certain materials to conduct electrical current with no resistance and extremely low losses. High temperature superconductors, such as La2-xSrxCuOx (Tc=40K) and YBa2Cu3O7-x (Tc=90K), were discovered in 1987 and have been actively studied since. In spite of an intense world-wide research, a complete understanding of the copper oxide (cuprate) materials is still lacking. Many fundamental questions are unanswered, particularly the mechanism by which high-Tc superconductivity occurs. More broadly, the cuprates are in a class of solids with strong electron-electron interactions. An understanding of such 'strongly correlated' solids is perhaps the major unsolved problem of condensed matter physics with over ten thousand researchers working on this topic. High-Tc superconductors also have significant potential for applications in technologies ranging from electric power generation and transmission to digital electronics. This ability to carry large amounts of current can be applied to electric power devices such as motors and generators, and to electricity transmission in power lines. For example, superconductors can carry as much as 100 times the amount of electricity of ordinary copper or aluminium wires of the same size. This Publication presents new research on yttrium barium copper oxide superconductors, often abbreviated YBCO, which is a chemical compound with the formula YBa2Cu3O7. This material, a famous 'high-temperature superconductor', achieved prominence because it was the first material to superconduct above the boiling point of nitrogen. All materials developed before YBCO became superconducting only at temperatures near the boiling points of liquid helium or liquid hydrogen (Tb = 20.1 K). The significance of the discovery of YBCO is the breakthrough in the refrigerant used to cool the material to below the critical temperature.

Download or read book Melt Processed High-temperature Superconductors written by Masato Murakami and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The achievement of large critical currents is critical to the applications of high-temperature superconductors. Recent developments have shown that melt processing is suitable for producing high Jc oxide superconductors. Using magnetic forces between such high Jc oxide superconductors and magnets, a person could be levitated. This book has grown largely out of research works on melt processing of high-temperature superconductors conducted at ISTEC Superconductivity Research Laboratory. The chapters build on melt processing, microstructural characterization, fundamentals of flux pinning, critical current, and applications of bulk monolithic superconductors. The text also describes the basic mechanism of levitation and its application. This book will be useful for research workers, engineers, and graduate students in the field of superconductivity.List of Authors: H Fujimoto, S Gotoh, T Izumi; N Koshizuka, K Miya, M Murakami, N Nakamura, Y Nakamura, Y Shiohara, H Takaichi, T Taguchi, M Uesaka, H W Weber, K Yamaguchi.
Book Synopsis Enhanced Flux Pinning to High Fields in Ybco and Ybco/Ag Superconductors by : Namburi Devendra Kumar

This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bulk REBa2Cu3O7-δ (REBCO, RE stands for Rare-Earth) superconductors find a large number of applications as levitation platforms, vibration dampers, fault current limiters, magnetic shields, microwave cavities and many more. It is necessary for such applications that the material is processed into required shapes and possesses microstructures that support high current densities (Jc) up to large applied magnetic fields. Details of the development of a novel process called Preform Optimized Infiltration Growth Process (POIGP) are discussed. POIGP enables fabrication of uniformly high Jc REBCO and REBCO/Ag superconducting composites with good homogeneity in the distribution of RE2BaCuO5 inclusions in the REBa2Cu3O7-δ matrix. The work described in this book points to the nature and scale of defects required for improving the field dependence of Jc in REBCO products. The defect structure observed in the matrix of YBa2Cu3O7-δ includes widespread, nano-sized, twin variants. Crossing nano-twins are observed when Y2BaCuO5 inclusions are in close proximity in the YBa2Cu3O7-δ. The observed defect spacing and densities account for the uniformly high current densities observed to high fields.

Book Synopsis Method and Composition for Improving Flux Pinning and Critical Current in Superconductors by :
Download or read book Method and Composition for Improving Flux Pinning and Critical Current in Superconductors written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superconducting materials and methods of forming superconducting materials are disclosed. Highly oxidized superconductors are heated at a relatively high temperature so as to release oxygen, which migrates out of the material, and form a non-superconducting phase which does not diffuse out of grains of the material. The material is then reoxidized at a lower temperature, leaving the non-superconducting inclusions inside a superconducting phase. The non-superconducting inclusions act as pinning centers in the superconductor, increasing the critical current thereof.
