The Class 1 price at San Francisco was $2. 45 per cwt. Compared with a range of $2. 45 2. 62§ in December. Under the State regulation a minimum of 70 cents per pound of butterfat is set for all milk used for fluid purposes in that market. A part of the December supply was paid for on a 75 cents per pound basis, but dealers in January were reported as paying only 70 cents. The price paid producers at Lexington, Kentucky, where milk is bought on a flat basis-one price for all milk bought without regard to utilization-was up 10 cents per hundredweight. The retail price was quoted at 12 cents per quart instead of the 11 to 12 cents per quart indicated a month earlier. In contrast to this increase, retail prices in Shreveport, Louisiana, were lowered 2 cents per quart on June 29. No change in the price paid producers, however, was reported. Retail prices in Kansas City, Missouri, were listed at 11 to 12 cents per quart for home delivery and 10 to 11 cents per quart at stores, instead of the 12 and 11 cents per quart prices reported in June. In Los Angeles, California, under the new State marketing plan that became effective on July 8, the Class 1 price to producers was lowered 14 cents per hundredweight. Retail prices were quoted at 11 cents per quart for home delivery and 10 cents per quart at stores. The retail price for home delivery in June was 10 to 12 cents per quart, and at stores, 8 to 10 cents per quart. This is 30 cents above June but 1; cents below July last year. The Class I price in the New york-new Jersey marketing area was up 38 cents per hundredweight. Home and store prices in Albany and Binghamton were unchanged. Home delivery prices in New York City and Schenectady were unchanged but store prices advanced 1 cent per quart. In Syracuse, home and store quarts were 1 cent per quart lower, but store half-gallons were unchanged. Home delivery prices in northern New Jersey were 1 cent per quart higher. Philadelphia, Class I prices increased 38 cents per hundredweight; home and store prices were 1 cent per quart higher than in June. Dealers' buying prices for milk for fluid use in the East North Central region during July averaged per hundredweight-9 cents higher than June but 9 cents lower than July 1961. Class I prices in the greater Chicago Ill. Area increased 29 cents per hundredweight. Home and store prices in both Gary, and Chicago were up 1 cent per quart. Rockford, Ill. Class I prices declined 17 cents per hundredweight. Comparable consumer prices for both months are not available at present. Rock Island, Ill. Fluid use prices were up 20 cents per hundredweight but home and store prices were unchanged. Both upward and downward prices to consumers were reported for various containers in Grand Rapids, Mich. With continued price war conditions. Producer prices in this marked are not currently determined. Various Class I price changes by market were reported in Wisconsin as the Federal Order program covered additional communities in the southern portion of the State. Increases of 51 and 55 cents per hundredweight respectively, were reported in Beloit and Madison with a 26-cent drop in Milwaukee. Most of these changes were reflected at consumer levels. At Green Bay, Wis. Class I prices advanced 16 cents per hundredweight but home and store prices were unchanged. Dealers' buying prices were higher in h8 markets, about one third of the 160 reporting markets. Lower buying prices were reported in 1 market. Prices for quarts delivered to homes advanced in 26 markets but declined in h. Store prices were reported above June in 28 markets for quarts, 31 markets for half-gallons, and 21 markets for gallons. Price declines for out - of - store milk sales were as follows: Quarts, 10 markets; half - gallons, 12 markets; and gallons, 7 markets. Milk purchased for fluid usage in about 160 markets in early July averaged per hundredweight. This is 18 cents higher than June and h cents over July 1963. Compared with the July average for the period 1958 - 62, the average this month is 3 cents lower. Averages are higher than June in 7 of the 9 regions. The averages are about the same as June in 1 region and lower in 1. Compared with July a year ago, the averages this month are higher in 6 of the 9 regions, unchanged in 2, but lower in 1. Increases over last year range from 1 cent in the East South Central Region to 8 cents in the East North Central. Other area increases are: 7 cents in the Mountain States, b cents in the Middle Atlantic, and 3 cents in both the west South Central and Pacific. The average is about the same as last year in the New England and the South Atlantic Regions. The west North Central average is 2 cents per hundredweight lower. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fluid Milk and Cream Report: July-December 1958 Buying prices paid by dealers for milk for fluid use in about 160 markets in early July averaged per hundredweight 18 cents above June, but unchanged from July a year earlier. Compared with the 1952-56 average for the month, the July price was 2 cents per hundredweight higher. Seven of the 9 regions reported increases from June, ranging from 1 cent per hundredweight in the South Atlantic to ho cents in New England.
