This book was released on 2014-01-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent decades, numerical algorithms and computer power have advanced to the point where computer simulations of the equations fluid flow have become routine. How does that affect the way we teach fluid dynamics? This book seizes on that question. One of its objectives is to integrate computer solutions into fluid dynamics education; another is to review important concepts of fluid dynamics that a computationalist needs in order to understand computed flows. This book provides a development of fluid flow theory in concert with a perspective on how computations are formulated and effected.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ready access to computers at an institutional and personal level has defined a new era in teaching and learning. The opportunity to extend the subject matter of traditional science and engineering disciplines into the realm of scientific computing has become not only desirable, but also necessary. Thanks to port ability and low overhead and operating costs, experimentation by numerical simulation has become a viable substitute, and occasionally the only alternative, to physical experiment at ion. The new environment has motivated the writing of texts and mono graphs with a modern perspective that incorporates numerical and com puter programming aspects as an integral part of the curriculum: meth ods, concepts, and ideas should be presented in a unified fashion that motivates and underlines the urgency of the new elements, but does not compromise the rigor of the classical approach and does not oversimplify. Interfacing fundamental concepts and practical methods of scientific computing can be done on different levels. In one approach, theory and implement at ion are kept complementary and presented in a sequential fashion. In a second approach, the coupling involves deriving compu tational methods and simulation algorithms, and translating equations into computer code instructions immediately following problem formu lations. The author of this book is a proponent of the second approach and advocates its adoption as a means of enhancing learning: interject ing methods of scientific computing into the traditional discourse offers a powerful venue for developing analytical skills and obtaining physical insight.
Book Synopsis Computational Methods for Fluid Dynamics by : Joel H. Ferziger
Download or read book Computational Methods for Fluid Dynamics written by Joel H. Ferziger and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-08-16 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a guide to numerical methods for solving fluid dynamics problems. The most widely used discretization and solution methods, which are also found in most commercial CFD-programs, are described in detail. Some advanced topics, like moving grids, simulation of turbulence, computation of free-surface flows, multigrid methods and parallel computing, are also covered. Since CFD is a very broad field, we provide fundamental methods and ideas, with some illustrative examples, upon which more advanced techniques are built. Numerical accuracy and estimation of errors are important aspects and are discussed in many examples. Computer codes that include many of the methods described in the book can be obtained online. This 4th edition includes major revision of all chapters; some new methods are described and references to more recent publications with new approaches are included. Former Chapter 7 on solution of the Navier-Stokes equations has been split into two Chapters to allow for a more detailed description of several variants of the Fractional Step Method and a comparison with SIMPLE-like approaches. In Chapters 7 to 13, most examples have been replaced or recomputed, and hints regarding practical applications are made. Several new sections have been added, to cover, e.g., immersed-boundary methods, overset grids methods, fluid-structure interaction and conjugate heat transfer.

Book Synopsis Elements of Computational Fluid Dynamics by : John D. Ramshaw
Download or read book Elements of Computational Fluid Dynamics written by John D. Ramshaw and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2011 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a brief introduction to the fundamental concepts of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). It is addressed to beginners, and presents the ABC's or bare essentials of CFD in their simplest and most transparent form. The approach taken is to describe the principal analytical tools required, including truncation-error and stability analyses, followed by the basic elements or building blocks of CFD, which are numerical methods for treating sources, diffusion, convection, and pressure waves. Finally, it is shown how those ingredients may be combined to obtain self-contained numerical methods for solving the full equations of fluid dynamics. The book should be suitable for self-study, as a textbook for CFD short courses, and as a supplement to more comprehensive CFD and fluid dynamics texts.
Book Synopsis Basics of Fluid Mechanics and Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics by : Titus Petrila
Download or read book Basics of Fluid Mechanics and Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics written by Titus Petrila and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-14 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book – through the topics and the problems approach – aims at filling a gap, a real need in our literature concerning CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). Our presentation results from a large documentation and focuses on reviewing the present day most important numerical and computational methods in CFD. Many theoreticians and experts in the field have expressed their - terest in and need for such an enterprise. This was the motivation for carrying out our study and writing this book. It contains an important systematic collection of numerical working instruments in Fluid Dyn- ics. Our current approach to CFD started ten years ago when the Univ- sity of Paris XI suggested a collaboration in the field of spectral methods for fluid dynamics. Soon after – preeminently studying the numerical approaches to Navier–Stokes nonlinearities – we completed a number of research projects which we presented at the most important inter- tional conferences in the field, to gratifying appreciation. An important qualitative step in our work was provided by the dev- opment of a computational basis and by access to a number of expert softwares. This fact allowed us to generate effective working programs for most of the problems and examples presented in the book, an - pect which was not taken into account in most similar studies that have already appeared all over the world.

Book Synopsis Computational Fluid Dynamics by : John Wendt
Download or read book Computational Fluid Dynamics written by John Wendt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-11-04 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational Fluid Dynamics: An Introduction grew out of a von Karman Institute (VKI) Lecture Series by the same title ?rst presented in 1985 and repeated with modi?cations every year since that time. The objective, then and now, was to present the subject of computational ?uid dynamics (CFD) to an audience unfamiliar with all but the most basic numerical techniques and to do so in such a way that the practical application of CFD would become clear to everyone. A second edition appeared in 1995 with updates to all the chapters and when that printing came to an end, the publisher requested that the editor and authors consider the preparation of a third edition. Happily, the authors received the request with enthusiasm. The third edition has the goal of presenting additional updates and clari?cations while preserving the introductory nature of the material. The book is divided into three parts. John Anderson lays out the subject in Part I by ?rst describing the governing equations of ?uid dynamics, concentrating on their mathematical properties which contain the keys to the choice of the numerical approach. Methods of discretizing the equations are discussed and transformation techniques and grids are presented. Two examples of numerical methods close out this part of the book: source and vortex panel methods and the explicit method. Part II is devoted to four self-contained chapters on more advanced material. Roger Grundmann treats the boundary layer equations and methods of solution.

Book Synopsis Computational Fluid Dynamics by : Frederic Magoules
Download or read book Computational Fluid Dynamics written by Frederic Magoules and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-08-24 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring new variations of classical methods as well as recent approaches appearing in the field, Computational Fluid Dynamics demonstrates the extensive use of numerical techniques and mathematical models in fluid mechanics. It presents various numerical methods, including finite volume, finite difference, finite element, spectral, smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH), mixed-element-volume, and free surface flow. Taking a unified point of view, the book first introduces the basis of finite volume, weighted residual, and spectral approaches. The contributors present the SPH method, a novel approach of computational fluid dynamics based on the mesh-free technique, and then improve the method using an arbitrary Lagrange Euler (ALE) formalism. They also explain how to improve the accuracy of the mesh-free integration procedure, with special emphasis on the finite volume particle method (FVPM). After describing numerical algorithms for compressible computational fluid dynamics, the text discusses the prediction of turbulent complex flows in environmental and engineering problems. The last chapter explores the modeling and numerical simulation of free surface flows, including future behaviors of glaciers. The diverse applications discussed in this book illustrate the importance of numerical methods in fluid mechanics. With research continually evolving in the field, there is no doubt that new techniques and tools will emerge to offer greater accuracy and speed in solving and analyzing even more fluid flow problems.
