Book Synopsis Orlando Firefighting by : Ginger Bryant
Download or read book Orlando Firefighting written by Ginger Bryant and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2008 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mystery surrounds the origins of Orlandos name, but the most probable explanation for its moniker dates back to the exploits of Orlando Reeves. While guarding Central Florida forts against Native American attacks, Reeves was alarmed in the middle of the night. A log rolled toward Reeves in the darkness, and he knew it disguised movement by an opponent. After firing his gun to awaken his fellow soldiers, he was bombarded by arrows, which resulted in his death. Orlandos name was bestowed upon a local post office in 1857 and then on the city incorporated in 1875. Just like the brave solider for whom the city was named, firefighters of Orlando boldly risk their lives for the welfare of others. This volume commemorates those men and women and traces a rich history from 1883, when a devastating fire inspired William C. Sherman to start a volunteer fire company, to today.

Download or read book Florida's Finest written by Esha Patel and published by . This book was released on 2020-04-07 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Miami is the Magic City, the home of paradise, beaches, and Florida's iconic Station 11, the state's foremost firefighting unit. However, Station 11 has gone from iconic to a disaster. Not all disasters are made equal, of course, and this one just happens to be a hot mess. No pun. Captain Antonio Reyes is supposed to be excelling. Unfortunately, he's lost. He has no idea what to do with a company that hates him to the point of complete ignorance. His firefighters can't even hold a hose without getting into an argument. On top of that, he's playing boss to his sour older brother, who's upset from a rivalry that never quite healed and secrets that were never told. Firefighter Camile Soledad Perez is the personification of her name. She likes silence and a place where she can work without question. She's also loudmouthed and unconventionally daring. But Miami Fire-Rescue isn't the station for that. In fact, it's the opposite, with a captain who seems to be closing in on their freedoms and running the company almost robotically. It's too late to go back, though: she has come all the way from Chicago with her beloved aunt and has no intention of returning. Through the journey of what is possibly the world's worst firefighting company (an experience full of insane emergencies, team excursions gone morbidly wrong, past wrongdoings rearing their ugly heads, and a dash of ill-begot rule-breaking), this wreck of a fire station will grow in more ways than one. Most importantly, they will learn that nothing comes easily. Especially respect.Book One of the Fire Family Series

Download or read book Chief Officer written by International Association of Fire Chiefs and published by Jones & Bartlett Publishers. This book was released on 2011-08-08 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Complete Fire Officer III and IV Training Solution! Chief officers need to know how to make the transition from company officer to chief officer. Chief Officer: Principles and Practice is designed to help make the transition from company officer to chief officer a smooth evolution. Covering the entire scope of Levels III and IV from the 2009 Edition of NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications, Chief Officer combines current content with dynamic features and interactive technology to better support instructors and to help prepare future chief officers to become problem-solving leaders for their organizations. Chief Officer: Principles and Practice has a clear focus on instilling fire fighter safety throughout an organization’s culture. Reducing fire fighter injuries and deaths requires the dedicated efforts of every fire fighter, fire officer, and fire department. The entire fire community must work together to achieve one common goal: to ensure that everyone goes home. Chief officers therefore set the tone for safety in their organization, and this textbook embraces that philosophy. It is with this goal in mind that the 16 Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives, developed by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, are integrated throughout the text. The features in this textbook will help students take that extra step toward becoming outstanding chief officers. These features include: • Scenario-Based Learning. You Are the Chief Officer and Chief Officer in Action are found in each chapter to encourage and foster critical thinking skills. • Practical Tips for the Chief Officer. Chief Officer Tips and Voices of Experience essays are integrated into each chapter to provide helpful advice from experienced chief officers. • Level IV Job Performance Requirements. Fire Officer Level IV content is highlighted to discern Level III JPRs from Level IV. • Walk the Talk. Additional activities encourage students to take what they have learned in the chapter and apply it to their own department.
