The preface to a published selection of these letters: Florence Nightingale to her nurses (London : Macmillan, 1914) states that the addresses were read aloud “and a printed copy or a lithographed facsimile of the manuscript was given to each of the nurses present, ‘for private use only'". Written after she reached middle age, and as a teacher of long experience to much younger pupils; we see in the letter something at least of what constituted Miss Nightingale's power, her ernest care for her nurses, and her intense desire that they should be 'perfect'. Constitutes an interesting specimen of lithographic printing of the period.
