Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A set of nonlinear equations describing the vibrations of sandwich plates is derived. These equations are then applied to a plate vibrating in plane strain and to a rectangular plate; with the boundary edges assumed to be hinged in both cases. It is shown that the nonlinear frequencies increase with the amplitude of vibration. It is shown also that transverse shear deformations play an important role; however, the effect produced by these deformations decreases with increasing amplitudes of vibration. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on my experiences as a teacher and as a researcher for more than four decades. When I started teaching in the early 1950s, I became interested in the vibrations of plates and shells. Soon after I joined the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn as a professor, I began working busily on my research in vibrations of sandwich and layered plates and shells, and then teaching a graduate course on the same subject. Although I tried to put together my lecture notes into a book, I never finished it. Many years later, I came to the New Jersey Institute of Technology as the dean of engineering. When I went back to teaching and looked for some research areas to work on, I came upon laminated composites and piezoelectric layers, which appeared to be natural extensions of sandwiches. Working on these for the last several years has brought me a great deal of joy, since I still am able to find my work relevant. At least I can claim that I still am pursuing life-long learning as it is advocated by educators all over the country. This book is based on the research results I accumulated during these two periods of my work, the first on vibrations and dynamical model ing of sandwiches, and the second on laminated composites and piezoelec tric layers.

Book Synopsis The Behavior of Sandwich Structures of Isotropic and Composite Materials by : JackR. Vinson
Download or read book The Behavior of Sandwich Structures of Isotropic and Composite Materials written by JackR. Vinson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Behavior of Sandwich Structures of Isotropic and Composite Materials presents the mathematics, descriptions, and analytical techniques in the growing field of sandwich structures. From a background in sandwich structures to thermoelastic problems of sandwich structures and sandwich shell theory, the book provides the knowledge needed to analyze, design, and optimize various sandwich structures. As one would expect from a book on sandwich structures, this volume discusses special failure modes such as face wrinkling and core shear instability. Coverage includes not only honeycomb cores, but also foam, web, and truss cores. An important topic in composite structure design, optimization is explored in two chapters on sandwich plates and sandwich shells. The author presents the optimization techniques in closed form and the methods are applicable to material selection and geometric design. The book also contains a set of problems and references at the end of each chapter. This text is ideal for engineers-in-training, as well as practical engineers who desire a comprehensive understanding of sandwich structures technology.

Book Synopsis Mechanics of Composite Structural Elements by : Holm Altenbach
Download or read book Mechanics of Composite Structural Elements written by Holm Altenbach and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-04-10 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of the textbook presents a systematic introduction to the structural mechanics of composite components. The book focusses on modeling and calculation of sandwiches and laminated composites i.e. anisotropic material. The new edition includes an additional chapter covering the latest advances in both research and applications, which are highly relevant for readers. The textbook is written for use not only in engineering curricula of aerospace, civil and mechanical engineering, but also for materials science and applied mechanics. Furthermore, it addresses practicing engineers and researchers. No prior knowledge of composite materials and structures is required for the understanding of its content. The book is close to classical courses of "Strength of Materials" and "Theory of Beams, Plates and Shells" but it extends the classic content on two topics: the linear elastic material behavior of isotropic and non-isotropic structural elements, and inhomogeneous material properties in the thickness direction. The Finite Element Analysis of laminate and sandwich structures is briefly presented. Many solved examples illustrate the application of the techniques learned.

Book Synopsis Nonlinear Analysis of Structures (1997) by : Muthukrishnan Sathyamoorthy
Download or read book Nonlinear Analysis of Structures (1997) written by Muthukrishnan Sathyamoorthy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Analysis of Structures presents a complete evaluation of the nonlinear static and dynamic behavior of beams, rods, plates, trusses, frames, mechanisms, stiffened structures, sandwich plates, and shells. These elements are important components in a wide variety of structures and vehicles such as spacecraft and missiles, underwater vessels and structures, and modern housing. Today's engineers and designers must understand these elements and their behavior when they are subjected to various types of loads. Coverage includes the various types of nonlinearities, stress-strain relations and the development of nonlinear governing equations derived from nonlinear elastic theory. This complete guide includes both mathematical treatment and real-world applications, with a wealth of problems and examples to support the text. Special topics include a useful and informative chapter on nonlinear analysis of composite structures, and another on recent developments in symbolic computation. Designed for both self-study and classroom instruction, Nonlinear Analysis of Structures is also an authoritative reference for practicing engineers and scientists. One of the world's leaders in the study of nonlinear structural analysis, Professor Sathyamoorthy has made significant research contributions to the field of nonlinear mechanics for twenty-seven years. His foremost contribution to date has been the development of a unique transverse shear deformation theory for plates undergoing large amplitude vibrations and the examination of multiple mode solutions for plates. In addition to his notable research, Professor Sathyamoorthy has also developed and taught courses in the field at universities in India, Canada, and the United States.
