Book Synopsis Sleeping Where I Fall by : Peter Coyote
Download or read book Sleeping Where I Fall written by Peter Coyote and published by Catapult. This book was released on 2015-04-01 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his energetic, funny, and intelligent memoir, Peter Coyote relives his fifteen–year ride through the heart of the counterculture—a journey that took him from the quiet rooms of privilege as the son of an East Coast stockbroker to the riotous life of political street theater and the self–imposed poverty of the West Coast communal movement known as The Diggers. With this innovative collective of artist–anarchists who had assumed as their task nothing less than the re–creation of the nation's political and social soul, Coyote and his companions soon became power players. In prose both graphic and unsentimental, Coyote reveals the corrosive side of love that was once called "free"; the anxieties and occasional terrors of late–night, drug–fueled visits of biker gangs looking to party; and his own quest for the next high. His road through revolution brought him to adulthood and to his major role as a political strategist: from radical communard to the chairman of the California Arts Council, from a street theater apprentice to a motion–picture star.

Download or read book Boys Home written by Willis Howard and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boy’s Home by Willis Howard Boy’s Home is a heart- rendering, emotional story of a young boy’s struggle to find himself in a might-is-right new world. A parentless atmosphere where he is thrown into an orphanage, along with twenty-three other distraught boys. He finds himself living in an environment void of affection and compassion. It is a poignant story that will tug at your heart ... a story jammed with unexpected excitement. The author of Boy’s Home went through eight formative years in this unusual situation, and writes his unique story in first person, realistic fiction. Damon, an adept, handsome boy, nearly two years older befriends him. He protects guides and teaches him the way of life in this uncanny climate. Everything is shared: the cliques, the problems, the pranks, the initiation rituals, the discipline, and the intimacies. Subordinated with unbelievable, unique characters: Miss Jay, the head matron, an indifferent old bitch, crafty, cold-hearted, and faster than a hummingbird with her back-handers. Mrs. Smith, the compassionate cook with an English accent, a facade of toughness, but a heart as soft and sweet as pure whipped cream; Julie, the author’s first encounter with the opposite sex that leaves him with a deceived and aching, crushed nebulous heart. The thread of sexual awakening that slowly wends its way through the pages of Boy’s Home becomes the unraveling and final snag to this rare and innermost story.
Book Synopsis Tail Gunner by : Squadron Leader R C Rivaz
Download or read book Tail Gunner written by Squadron Leader R C Rivaz and published by The History Press. This book was released on 2011-08-26 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1943, this is the gripping story of one man's involvement in RAF Bomber Command's fledgling offensive between August 1940 and December 1941. Dick Rivaz was tail gunner to Leonard Cheshire, one of the most famous RAF pilots of the Second World War, flying in Whiteleys with 102 Squadron and latterly in Halifaxes with 35 Squadron. Unique among wartime memoirs, Tail Gunner was written within months of the events described, with all the immediacy of being at the very heart of the action. Rivaz graphically describes his experiences on night bombing attacks against heavily defended enemy targets like Duisberg, Dusseldorf and Essen, and relates a dramatic shoot-out with German fighters over La Rochelle in broad daylight during July 1941. Rivaz reveals the fine spirit of comradeship which developed in RAF bomber crews during the Second World War. Having survived the war, including two rescues from the North Sea, he was killed in October 1945, aged just thirty-seven.

Soon the Sandman, a shadowy figure with connections to the political underworld, lurks into view, with a proposal for Coldrain: find a man called Dogan - a terrorist responsible for a slew of lethal IED attacks in both Iraq and Afghanistan - detain him and hand him over to the Sandman. For this simple task Coldrain will be granted a four-man team, access to high-grade weapons and explosives and vehicles, and a cool £1 million per head once the mission is completed. And so the hunt begins, with the contractors dragged through hell and back in search of their deadly suspect. Will Coldrain and his team complete their mission successfully? And, most importantly, will Coldrain battle the demons which so haunt him over his friend's death?
