The Kuskokwim-Goodnews Management Area (KGMA) consists of all waters of the Kuskokwim River drainage, Kuskokwim Bay, and waters extending from the Naskonat Peninsula in the north to the south side of Cape Newenham in the south. Sport and subsistence fisheries target all 5 Pacific salmon species, as well as rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss, Dolly Varden Salvelinus malma, inconnu/sheefish Stenodus leucichthys, Arctic grayling Thymallus arcticus, and northern pike Esox lucius. In 2019, angler-days totaled 27,286 in the KGMA, with the largest proportion coming from the Kanektok River drainage (0.33% or 9,033). Coho salmon were the predominant sport salmon species harvested in 2019 with 3,373 fish taken, followed by sockeye salmon (842). The estimated 2019 Chinook (king) salmon harvest in the Kuskokwim-Goodnews Management Area was 587, all of which were in the Kuskokwim Bay drainages (Goodnews, Kanektok, and Arolik Rivers) as the Kuskokwim River drainage was closed to sport fishing for Chinook salmon the entire season. Summaries of major sport, commercial, and subsistence fisheries within the KGMA are detailed in this report, including descriptions of recent performances, Alaska Board of Fisheries regulatory actions, social and biological issues, and descriptions of ongoing research and management activities.
