Book Synopsis Fish Marketing and Credit in Viet Nam by : Audun Lem
Download or read book Fish Marketing and Credit in Viet Nam written by Audun Lem and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2004 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent studies show that local consumer demand for fish will continue to increase in Viet Nam. At the same time, the export-oriented fish processing industry will see a growing need for raw materials. These substantial future demands for safe and high-quality fish products can only be met if efficient marketing arrangements are established. This paper identifies a number of constraints in the current domestic fish market, which form the basis for recommendations to improve the present marketing arrangements in Viet Nam. The paper also explores how credit is widely used for financing marine capture fisheries, particularly offshore fishing and export-oriented fish culture, processing and marketing in Viet Nam. State-owned financial institutions play a major role in financing capital expenditure while working capital requirements are mainly met by informal sources of credit. However, future investment requirements and credit needs are greater than currently available.

Book excerpt: "Beyond previous more simplistic approaches, this book takes a giant step towards understanding and translating into people-centered policies the actual position and complexity of fish production in Southeast Asian economies. Tackling how fi sheries and aquaculture are embedded in local and household economies and linked through dynamic supply chains to more distant, even global markets, the book makes essential policy and analytical recommendations. SEARCA and ISEAS have made a major contribution to the intellectual debate and action agenda for Southeast Asian fisheries." Book excerpt: The important contribution of fi sheries to human well-being is frequently underestimated. This report highlights that contribution. The report focuses on small-scale fi sheries and developing countries because the livelihoods of 90 percent of the 120 million employed in fi sheries are in the small-scale fi sheries, and almost all of those workers, 97 percent, live in developing countries. Many small-scale fi shing communities have high levels of poverty, and poverty reduction is a core focus of the contributing partners to the report.
Book Synopsis The State of World Highly Migratory, Straddling and Other High Seas Fishery Resources and Associated Species by : Jean-Jacques Maguire
Download or read book The State of World Highly Migratory, Straddling and Other High Seas Fishery Resources and Associated Species written by Jean-Jacques Maguire and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2006 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fisheries for highly migratory species are important in all oceans and semi-enclosed seas, except for polar regions. Fisheries for straddling fish stocks are much more localised, primarily occurring in a few regions where continental shelves extend beyond the 200 miles Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), while most fisheries for other high seas fishery resources are deep-water fisheries. This publication examines issues relating to the stocks of these resources, including information on their state of exploitation. Findings include that about 30 percent of the stocks of highly migratory tuna and tuna-like species, more than half of highly migratory oceanic sharks and nearly two-thirds of the straddling stocks and the stocks of other high seas fishery resources are overexploited or depleted. Although the stocks concerned represent only a small fraction of the world fishery resources, they are key indicators of the state of an overwhelming part of the ocean ecosystem which appears to be more overexploited than EEZs.

Book Synopsis Species and System Selection for Sustainable Aquaculture by : PingSun Leung
Download or read book Species and System Selection for Sustainable Aquaculture written by PingSun Leung and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-02-28 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published in Cooperation with THE UNITED STATES AQUACULTURE SOCIETY As aquaculture production continues to grow and develop there is a continuous search for new species to culture to be able to fully exploit new national and international markets. Species selection for aquaculture development often poses an enormous challenge for decision makers who must decide which species and culture technologies to support with public resources, and then how best to divide those resources. Species and System Selection for Sustainable Aquaculture brings together contributions from international experts with experience in identifying potential species and production systems for sustainable aquaculture with a socioeconomic focus. The book is divided into three sections: Principles, Practices, and Species-Specific Public Policy for Sustainable Development. An outgrowth of a workshop held as part of the Aquaculture Interchange Program with examples from around the globe carefully edited by PingSun Leung, Pat O'Bryen, and Cheng-Sheng Lee this volume will be an important reference for all researchers, professionals, economists, and policy-makers involved in selecting new species for the development of sustainable aquaculture.

Download or read book Values, Attitudes and Fish Consumption in Vietnam written by P. Nelka Rajani and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-02 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary purpose of this work was to investigate the consumers' value and the difference in consumption, attitude and intention to consume wild fish versus farmed fish in Vietnam. Second, it aimed to investigate the relationship between values, attitudes and intention to consume wild versus farmed fish by applying value-attitude-behavior model. The findings indicated that from a marketing point-of-view, wild fish products can be appeal to environmental and welfare concern, personal values as well as attributes beliefs level of the consumer, while demand for the farmed fish products can be enhanced mostly by appealing to the attitudinal beliefs based on the attributes. From a theoretical point of view, this study partially confirms the Value - Attitude - Behaviour relationship model (VAB). Book Synopsis Subsidies in World Fisheries by : Matteo Milazzo
Download or read book Subsidies in World Fisheries written by Matteo Milazzo and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past six years, the world's fishery sector has reached a turning point with global fish production reaching a plateau of approximately 100 million tons annually. While aquaculture output continued to grow, yields from capture fisheries were uneven and showed increasing signs of stagnation because of widespread overfishing and overcapitalization, ineffective management, deteriorating resource health, declining or flat global harvests, and inefficient economic and trade policies. This paper examines the role of subsidies in fisheries.
