Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of research on disposal area reuse are simply to develop procedures for maintaining a dredged material disposal area for an indefinite period while providing environmentally acceptable disposal operations. The reusable dredged material disposal area is a collection and processing site where valuable portions of the dredged material are made available for productive use while unusable material is, if necessary, treated and disposed of. Methods and procedures must provide for continuous or periodic removal of dredged material for use or storage elsewhere in order to increase the life expectancy of the facility. In the Mobile Bay Area, plans for expansion of disposal areas have been abandoned in some cases because of objections from local residents and environmental constraints. Thus, the need for maximizing the useful life of existing sites in this area is pressing. This paper presents results from a field study in the Mobile Bay Area outlining the first steps taken toward the development of a reusable disposal area. Plans and concepts are discussed regarding the long range planning required to maintain use of sites for indefinite periods. This paper does not present a panecea for dredged material disposal problems because it is not available now nor will it be in the future. Each reusable disposal area will have to be developed based on its own needs and local environment. (Author).
Book Synopsis Needs and Areas of Potential Application of Disposal Area Reuse Management (DARM) by : Michael R. Palermo
Download or read book Needs and Areas of Potential Application of Disposal Area Reuse Management (DARM) written by Michael R. Palermo and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of a survey of Corps of Engineers (CE) Districts for needs and areas of potential application of Disposal Area Reuse Management (DARM) are documented in this report. Under the DARM concept, disposal areas are regarded as collection and processing sites where dredged material is rehandled within the site or totally removed, thereby increasing or restoring site capacity for subsequent disposal. This book was released on 2009-08-17 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Point Sources of Pollution: Local Effects and their Control is a component of Encyclopedia of Environmental and Ecological Sciences, Engineering and Technology Resources in the global Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS), which is an integrated compendium of twenty one Encyclopedias. Point sources of pollution are the major causes of degradation of ecosystems, and may have significant effects on human health if they are not properly controlled. They can be classified in terms of sources, the discharged media, and the pollutants themselves. Broadly speaking, the sources include municipal and industrial sector activities, and the media include water, air, and solids. Noise is also an important form of pollution. Pollutant compositions from point sources can be vast, varied, and complex, and can vary between different countries and regions. The Theme discusses matters of great relevance to our world such as: Vehicular Emissions; Industrial Pollution; Domestic Pollution; Environmental Pollutants and Their Control; Technologies for Air Pollution Control; and Technologies for Water Pollution Control. These two volumes are aimed at the following five major target audiences: University and College students Educators, Professional practitioners, Research personnel and Policy analysts, managers, and decision makers and NGOs.
