Book Synopsis Principles of Radiation Interaction in Matter and Detection (4th Edition) by : Claude Leroy
Download or read book Principles of Radiation Interaction in Matter and Detection (4th Edition) written by Claude Leroy and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-12-17 with total page 1345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The fourth edition of this book has been widely revised. It includes additional chapters and some sections are complemented with either new ones or an extension of their content. In this latest edition a complete treatment of the physics and properties of semiconductors is presented, covering transport phenomena in semiconductors, scattering mechanisms, radiation effects and displacement damages. Furthermore, this edition presents a comprehensive treatment of the Coulomb scattering on screened nuclear potentials resulting from electrons, protons, light- and heavy-ions -- ranging from (very) low up to ultra-relativistic kinetic energies -- and allowing one to derive the corresponding NIEL (non-ionizing energy-loss) doses deposited in any material. The contents are organized into two parts: Chapters 1 to 7 cover Particle Interactions and Displacement Damage while the remaining chapters focus on Radiation Environments and Particle Detection. This book can serve as reference for graduate students and final-year undergraduates and also as supplement for courses in particle, astroparticle, space physics and instrumentation. A section of the book is directed toward courses in medical physics. Researchers in experimental particle physics at low, medium, and high energy who are dealing with instrumentation will also find the book useful."--

Download or read book Principles of Radiation Interaction in Matter and Detection written by Claude Leroy and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2012 with total page 1041 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, like the first and second editions, addresses the fundamental principles of interaction between radiation and matter and the principles of particle detection and detectors in a wide scope of fields, from low to high energy, including space physics and medical environment. It provides abundant information about the processes of electromagnetic and hadronic energy deposition in matter, detecting systems, performance of detectors and their optimization. The third edition includes additional material covering, for instance: mechanisms of energy loss like the inverse Compton scattering, corrections due to the LandauOCoPomeranchukOCoMigdal effect, an extended relativistic treatment of nucleusOConucleus screened Coulomb scattering, and transport of charged particles inside the heliosphere. Furthermore, the displacement damage (NIEL) in semiconductors has been revisited to account for recent experimental data and more comprehensive comparisons with results previously obtained. This book will be of great use to graduate students and final-year undergraduates as a reference and supplement for courses in particle, astroparticle, space physics and instrumentation. A part of the book is directed toward courses in medical physics. The book can also be used by researchers in experimental particle physics at low, medium, and high energy who are dealing with instrumentation."
Download or read book Four Seasons written by Isadore Sharp and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2009-04-30 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The founder of Four Seasons Hotels shares the philosophy and values that have made his legendary brand How did a child of immigrants, starting with no background in the hotel business, create the world's most admired and successful hotel chain? And how has Four Seasons grown dramatically, over nearly a half century, without losing its focus on exceptional quality and unparalleled service? Isadore Sharp answers these questions in his engaging memoir, which doubles as a powerful guide for leaders in any field. He recalls the surprising history of his company, starting with its roots in his father's small construction business, which Sharp joined after getting a degree in architecture. Shifting into hotels wasn't easy, and he learned by trial and error. His breakthrough was a vision for a new kind of hotel, featuring superior design, top-quality amenities, and, above all, a deep commitment to service. Sharp realized that customers would gladly pay extra for a "home away from home" experience. But that would be possible only if everyone-from managers and supervisors to bellmen, servers, and housekeepers-was fully engaged. The front-line staff, who have the most contact with guests, can make or break a five-star reputation. Readers will be fascinated to learn how Four Seasons does it, year after year, in more than thirty countries around the world.

Book excerpt: Gaseous photomultipliers are defined as gas-filled devices capable of recording single ultraviolet (UV) and visible photons with high position resolution. Used in a variety of research areas, these detectors can be paired with computers to treat and store imaging information of UV-light. Position-Sensitive Gaseous Photomultipliers: Research and Applications explores the advancement of gaseous detectors as applied for single photon detection. Emphasizing emerging perspectives and new ways to apply gaseous detectors across research fields, this research-based publication is an essential reference source for engineers, physicists, graduate-level students, and researchers.
Book Synopsis The Law of the Sea Conference--status of the Issues, 1978 by : United States. General Accounting Office
Download or read book The Law of the Sea Conference--status of the Issues, 1978 written by United States. General Accounting Office and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both developed and developing nations attended the Law of the Sea Conference and, in general, subscribe to the principle that the oceans beyond national jurisdiction are the common heritage of mankind. However, the interpretation each group has of this principle differs. The objective of the United States delegation is to achieve a comprehensive treaty that protects essential United States' interests. The following principle issues were discussed at the 1977 and 1978 conference sessions. The assurance of access to mineral resources of the deep seabed for private contractors or states parties under reasonable terms is central to the success of the treaty. An International Seabed Authority should be established under the treaty to administer the common heritage concept in the best interest of mankind. The International Seabed Authority would have numerous sources of funds, such as various types of payments made by contractors or others exploring the seabed mineral resources, voluntary contributions, excess revenues generated by operations of the Enterprise and loans from commercial sources. The obligations of private and/or state contractors to the Authority can be characterized as monetary payments, technology transfers, and production restraint. The treaty text currently proposes four methods of dispute settlement: the International Court of Justice, the Law of the Sea Tribunal and its Seabed Disputes Chamber, arbitration procedures, and a special arbitral tribunal made up of experts. Opinions differ as to what the boundaries of the outer limit of the continental shelf beyond 200 miles should be. The marine scientific research text provides for coastal state consent for marine scientific research in the economic zone. The major marine environmental concern is accommodation of navigational and environmental interests.
