Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible appears to give mixed and even conflicting signals on the four case issues of slavery, Sabbath, war, and women. New Testament scholar Willard Swartley seeks to identify the difficulties surrounding these discussions and clarify basic learnings in biblical interperation in a spirit of unity and dialogue. As a predecessor to his 2003 publication, Homosexuality, this book rounds out a thorough spirit-filled discussion of some of the most contentious and sensitive issues facing the church today.

Book excerpt: This careful, sometimes innovative, mid-level commentary touches on an astonishingly wide swath of important, sensitive issues — theological and pastoral — that have urgent resonances in twenty-first-century life. Roy Ciampa and Brian Rosner reveal how 1 Corinthians directly addresses the claims of unity and truth, church discipline, sexual matters, the Lord’s supper, the nature of love, Christian leadership, and many other significant topics. Those who preach and teach 1 Corinthians will be grateful to Ciampa and Rosner for years to come and scholars will be challenged to see this letter with fresh eyes.

Book excerpt: 1 Corinthian gives us an example how Paul interprets the Tora for Christians from the nations: He tells concretely, sensitively, close to their daily life about the hope against the death. He writes down prayers and songs from the messianic communities of his times. And he contradicts himself - especially in his dealing with women compared to his ideas about how they should be. Luise Schottroff (1934-2015) guides her readers to discover Pauls from anew, digging to his original thoughts through traditional missinterpretations, appropriation, and monopolization. The English version is based on the German 2nd edition. It was translated by Everett R. Kalin, Professor Emeritus for New Testament at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary at Berkely/CA.

"WOKEISM: The Predatory Grooming of Your Children" serves as an essential guide for youth, aged 12-25, navigating a world that often feels chaotic and overwhelming. Designed not just as a resource for the young, this book is a compass for parents, pastors, counselors, and educators looking to provide guidance in these tumultuous times. Woven with biblical truths, this book aims to unveil the insidious nature of 'woke' ideologies, particularly focusing on the challenges posed by Critical Race Theory, transgenderism, and the troubling sexualization of minors in popular media. Each chapter delves deep, offering not just an understanding of the issues but also providing spiritually-rooted counsel to counteract these harmful narratives. From shedding light on the potential dangers of popular Netflix trailers to unraveling controversial theological interpretations, "WOKEISM" stands as a beacon of truth amidst the shadows of deception. For parents, it acts as a window into the challenges their children face daily, offering them biblically grounded advice to lovingly guide their young ones. For Christian leaders, educators, and counselors, it serves as a robust resource to fortify the youth's faith and values. In a world where distortions are presented as truths, and where young minds are especially vulnerable, "WOKEISM: The Predatory Grooming of Your Children" strives to empower the next generation with the knowledge and faith they need to stand firm. This is more than just a book—it's a call to action for all who believe in safeguarding the spiritual and mental well-being of our youth.

This book was released on 2017-09-01 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. For over 400 years, Black African men, women and children suffered the worst type of enslavement and humiliation from the hands of Catholics and other Western Christians during the transatlantic slave trade. Before now, no one could ever believe that the Popes of the Church were deeply involved in this Holocaust against Black African people. Despite the claims made by the hallowed papal office in Rome in recent years that the Popes condemned the enslavement of peoples wherever it existed including that of Black Africans, recent researches in these fields of study have proved the contrary to be true. The Church and her Popes were rather among the major “role players” in this worst crime against Black Africans in recorded history. With the help of a considerable number of papal Bulls from the Vatican Secret Archives and a great amount of Royal documents from the Portuguese National Archives in Lisbon, the present book is aiming to undertake a critical and analytical inquiry of this aspect of the transatlantic slavery that has been kept in the dark for so many years by the Western historians and scholars. The results of this studious but fruitful academic inquiry are laid bare in this notable work of the 21st century. Pius Onyemechi Adiele is a Catholic priest of Ahiara Diocese Mbaise and an alumnus of Seat of Wisdom Seminary Owerri and Bigard Memorial Seminary Enugu in Nigeria. He obtained his licentiate in Theology from the famous University of Münster and his doctoral degree in Church History from the renowned University of Tübingen in Germany. At present, he is a research fellow in the areas of African Church History and Enslavement of peoples as well as the pastor in charge of the merged parishes of Lauchheim, Westhausen, Lippach, Röttingen and Hülen in Germany.

Book excerpt: Although the arrival of the Bible in Africa has often been a tale of terror, the Bible has become an African book. This volume explores the many ways in which Africans have made the Bible their own. The essays in this book offer a glimpse of the rich resources that constitute Africa's engagement with the Bible. Among the topics are: the historical development of biblical interpretation in Africa, the relationship between African biblical scholarship and scholarship in the West, African resources for reading the Bible, the history and role of vernacular translation in particular African contexts, the ambiguity of the Bible in Africa, the power of the Bible as text and symbol, and the intersections between class, race, gender, and culture in African biblical interpretation. The book also contains an extensive bibliography of African biblical scholarship. In fact, it is one of the most comprehensive collections of African biblical scholarship available in print. This publication has also been published in paperback, please click here for details.
