Book Synopsis Numerical Differential Equations: Theory And Technique, Ode Methods, Finite Differences, Finite Elements And Collocation by : John Loustau
Download or read book Numerical Differential Equations: Theory And Technique, Ode Methods, Finite Differences, Finite Elements And Collocation written by John Loustau and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2016-03-07 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text presents numerical differential equations to graduate (doctoral) students. It includes the three standard approaches to numerical PDE, FDM, FEM and CM, and the two most common time stepping techniques, FDM and Runge-Kutta. We present both the numerical technique and the supporting theory. The applied techniques include those that arise in the present literature. The supporting mathematical theory includes the general convergence theory. This material should be readily accessible to students with basic knowledge of mathematical analysis, Lebesgue measure and the basics of Hilbert spaces and Banach spaces. Nevertheless, we have made the book free standing in most respects. Most importantly, the terminology is introduced, explained and developed as needed. The examples presented are taken from multiple vital application areas including finance, aerospace, mathematical biology and fluid mechanics. The text may be used as the basis for several distinct lecture courses or as a reference. For instance, this text will support a general applications course or an FEM course with theory and applications. The presentation of material is empirically-based as more and more is demanded of the reader as we progress through the material. By the end of the text, the level of detail is reminiscent of journal articles. Indeed, it is our intention that this material be used to launch a research career in numerical PDE.
Book Synopsis Nonstandard Finite Difference Models Of Differential Equations by : Ronald E Mickens
Download or read book Nonstandard Finite Difference Models Of Differential Equations written by Ronald E Mickens and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-12-23 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a clear summary of the work of the author on the construction of nonstandard finite difference schemes for the numerical integration of differential equations. The major thrust of the book is to show that discrete models of differential equations exist such that the elementary types of numerical instabilities do not occur. A consequence of this result is that in general bigger step-sizes can often be used in actual calculations and/or finite difference schemes can be constructed that are conditionally stable in many instances whereas in using standard techniques no such schemes exist. The theoretical basis of this work is centered on the concepts of “exact” and “best” finite difference schemes. In addition, a set of rules is given for the discrete modeling of derivatives and nonlinear expressions that occur in differential equations. These rules often lead to a unique nonstandard finite difference model for a given differential equation.

Download or read book Advances in the Applications of Nonstandard Finite Diffference Schemes written by Ronald E. Mickens and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides a concise introduction to the methodology of nonstandard finite difference (NSFD) schemes construction and shows how they can be applied to the numerical integration of differential equations occurring in the natural, biomedical, and engineering sciences. These methods had their genesis in the work of Mickens in the 1990's and are now beginning to be widely studied and applied by other researchers. The importance of the book derives from its clear and direct explanation of NSFD in the introductory chapter along with a broad discussion of the future directions needed to advance the topic.
Book Synopsis Finite Difference Methods for Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations by : Randall J. LeVeque
Download or read book Finite Difference Methods for Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations written by Randall J. LeVeque and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces finite difference methods for both ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and partial differential equations (PDEs) and discusses the similarities and differences between algorithm design and stability analysis for different types of equations. A unified view of stability theory for ODEs and PDEs is presented, and the interplay between ODE and PDE analysis is stressed. The text emphasizes standard classical methods, but several newer approaches also are introduced and are described in the context of simple motivating examples.

Book Synopsis Nonstandard Finite Difference Schemes: Methodology And Applications by : Ronald E Mickens
Download or read book Nonstandard Finite Difference Schemes: Methodology And Applications written by Ronald E Mickens and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-11-11 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of Nonstandard Finite Difference Models of Differential Equations provides an update on the progress made in both the theory and application of the NSFD methodology during the past two and a half decades. In addition to discussing details related to the determination of the denominator functions and the nonlocal discrete representations of functions of dependent variables, we include many examples illustrating just how this should be done.Of real value to the reader is the inclusion of a chapter listing many exact difference schemes, and a chapter giving NSFD schemes from the research literature. The book emphasizes the critical roles played by the 'principle of dynamic consistency' and the use of sub-equations for the construction of valid NSFD discretizations of differential equations.

Book Synopsis Conservative Finite-Difference Methods on General Grids by : Mikhail Shashkov
Download or read book Conservative Finite-Difference Methods on General Grids written by Mikhail Shashkov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new book deals with the construction of finite-difference (FD) algorithms for three main types of equations: elliptic equations, heat equations, and gas dynamic equations in Lagrangian form. These methods can be applied to domains of arbitrary shapes. The construction of FD algorithms for all types of equations is done on the basis of the support-operators method (SOM). This method constructs the FD analogs of main invariant differential operators of first order such as the divergence, the gradient, and the curl. This book is unique because it is the first book not in Russian to present the support-operators ideas. Conservative Finite-Difference Methods on General Grids is completely self-contained, presenting all the background material necessary for understanding. The book provides the tools needed by scientists and engineers to solve a wide range of practical engineering problems. An abundance of tables and graphs support and explain methods. The book details all algorithms needed for implementation. A 3.5" IBM compatible computer diskette with the main algorithms in FORTRAN accompanies text for easy use.
