This book was released on 2011 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 412: Speed Reduction Techniques for Rural High-to-Low Speed Transitions explores techniques for lowering traffic speeds in rural transition zones. Transition zones are those portions of high-speed roads that have lower posted speed limits as the roadway approaches a settlement.

Book Synopsis Evaluation Methodologies for Transport Investment by : Michael Roe
Download or read book Evaluation Methodologies for Transport Investment written by Michael Roe and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-02-16 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1987, this title reviews and evaluates the methodologies suitable for highway evaluation, along with the UK transport supplementary grant and TPP (Transport Policies and Programme) system. Examples of current UK practice are briefly described, with more details being given of the technique of priority ranking used in the case study area of the West Midlands. Multi criteria approaches are reviewed in chapter two. Chapter three looks at the choice of highway data input in the light of those available, and the practical structure of factorial analysis applied to the case study area. The book covers following issues: computer structure and requirements; highway problem data; referencing methods; site definition; and weighting methods. The results from this study are described and then analysed by classical factorial analysis. The implications of the technique for the TPP preparation process, for the derivation of priorities, and the highway evaluation process as a whole are given. Specific techniques, such as factorial analysis, bridge problem and bus aid ranking, highway capacity calculations and sensitivity testing, as well as the computer programs used (March and COBA) are described in greater detail in the appendices.

Book Synopsis Urban and Maritime Transport XXVIII by : G. Passerini
Download or read book Urban and Maritime Transport XXVIII written by G. Passerini and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2022-11-23 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Containing papers presented at the 28th International Conference on Urban and Maritime Transport and the Environment, this volume covers two, apparently, parallel topics which meet in the transport and environmental management of coastal cities, both being affected positively and negatively by landside and seaside traffic. The continuing requirement for better urban transport systems and the need for a healthier environment create a fertile environment for original ideas, innovative approaches and applications of advanced technologies, their tests and evaluations in practice. Moreover, there is a growing need for integration with IT systems and applications to improve safety and efficiency. Maritime Transport is highly interconnected with rail, road and air services, as well as inland waterways. Each of these must therefore operate complimentary of one another to maximise efficiency and respond rapidly to variable economic and political contingencies. The variety of topics covered by the included research works reflects the complex interaction of transport systems with their environment and the need to establish integrated strategies. The shared aim is to arrive at optimal socio-economic solutions while reducing the negative environmental impacts of transportation systems typically by interdisciplinary approaches. Therefore, a focus is placed on multidisciplinary research and development, as well as operational experiences.

Book Synopsis Solving Differential Equations in R by : Karline Soetaert
Download or read book Solving Differential Equations in R written by Karline Soetaert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-06-06 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematics plays an important role in many scientific and engineering disciplines. This book deals with the numerical solution of differential equations, a very important branch of mathematics. Our aim is to give a practical and theoretical account of how to solve a large variety of differential equations, comprising ordinary differential equations, initial value problems and boundary value problems, differential algebraic equations, partial differential equations and delay differential equations. The solution of differential equations using R is the main focus of this book. It is therefore intended for the practitioner, the student and the scientist, who wants to know how to use R for solving differential equations. However, it has been our goal that non-mathematicians should at least understand the basics of the methods, while obtaining entrance into the relevant literature that provides more mathematical background. Therefore, each chapter that deals with R examples is preceded by a chapter where the theory behind the numerical methods being used is introduced. In the sections that deal with the use of R for solving differential equations, we have taken examples from a variety of disciplines, including biology, chemistry, physics, pharmacokinetics. Many examples are well-known test examples, used frequently in the field of numerical analysis.
