Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the restoration of teeth retained through root canal treatment, from the perspective of adhesive dentistry. The challenge of adhesion to root dentin is first explained and guidance provided on assessment of the restorability of endodontically treated teeth. The types of prefabricated passive post are then described in detail. The advantages and disadvantages of each type are outlined, with identification of the factors that influence post selection. Further topics include the ferrule effect, evidence‐based clinical applications of fiber posts and new methods to lute fiber posts to the root canal without dentin adhesives. In addition, frequent myths are identified and dispelled. All aspects are illustrated with clinical and laboratory images, diagrams and high-resolution electron microscopy photographs.

Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive guide to BiodentineTM, an innovative biocompatible and bioactive material based on pure tricalcium silicate that can permanently replace dentin and can also serve as a temporary enamel substitute. Although BiodentineTM has been widely used across the world for the past decade, this is the first book to be devoted to its properties, interactions with the soft and hard tissues, and its multiple clinical applications. The coverage encompasses applications in primary and permanent teeth, in specialties as diverse as restorative dentistry, endodontics, paediatric dentistry, dental traumatology, and prosthetic dentistry. BiodentineTM application both in vital pulp therapy and endodontic procedures is illustrated and clinical step by step protocols are provided. The book provides a detailed update on BiodentineTM use to preserve the pulp vitality in direct/indirect pulp capping, pulpotomy and irreversible pulpitis treatment. It also details BiodentineTM use for non-vital teeth treatment in indications such as root/furcation perforation repair, apexification as well as in regenerative endodontic procedures. BiodentineTM: Properties and Clinical Applications will be a rich source of guidance and information for all dentists as well as dental students and academics.

Book excerpt: Written by a group of renowned experts three decades after the publication of the last comprehensive book on this topic, this much-needed book has a wealth of evidence-based information on all facets of the restoration of pulpless teeth. With a better understanding of the factors that can influence the prognosis of severely compromised teeth, the approach to treating these teeth has evolved, and this text offers a well-balanced, contemporary approach to treatment planning. Traditional principles and techniques are reviewed and reinforced, along with modern materials and methods, all with a firm foundation in the best available scientific evidence and with an emphasis on clinical studies. Many of the chapters provide comprehensive, step-by-step descriptions of technical procedures with accompanying illustrations to guide the reader through every stage of restoring pulpless teeth, including fabrication of various foundation restorations, cementation techniques, and methods of provisionalization. Preprosthetic adjunctive procedures, such as surgical crown lengthening, repair of perforations, and orthodontic measures, are also described and illustrated. For years to come, this text will remain a definitive reference for specialists involved in the restoration of pulpless teeth or engaged in planning treatment for structurally compromised teeth.

Book excerpt: This book describes the latest minimally invasive approaches in endodontics and explains the principles that guide them. The advantages and limitations of these approaches are critically analyzed with the intention of defining new endodontic gold standards. The trend toward the use of more conservative procedures within endodontics reflects the wider adoption of minimally invasive dentistry in general and is being fostered by the introduction of new materials, devices, instruments, and techniques as well as the use of magnification and advanced three-dimensional diagnostic imaging technologies. In this book, readers will find clear explanation of these advances and their impacts. Minimally invasive access to the root canal system is described, and detailed attention is devoted to the application of novel strategies in root canal instrumentation and disinfection, root canal filling, coronal restoration, retreatment, and endodontic surgery. Minimally invasive alternatives to complete endodontic treatment, such as vital pulp therapies, and to dental extraction and implant placement, including surgical extrusion, intentional replantation, and tooth autotransplantation, are also discussed. Minimally Invasive Approaches in Endodontic Practice will be of value for endodontists at all levels of experience.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers readers a pragmatic approach to endodontic therapy for permanent molars, based on up-to-date evidence. All chapters were written by experts in the field, and focus on preparation for treatment, vital pulp therapy, access cavity preparation, root canal shaping, outcome assessment, retreatment, apical surgery, and specific aspects of restorations for root canal-treated molars. The role of micro-CT data in visualizing canal anatomy is compared to cone beam CT, and detailed information on current clinical tools, such as irrigation adjuncts and engine-driven preparation tools is provided. Important steps are illustrated in clinical photographs and radiographs, as well as by schematic diagrams. Tables and check boxes highlight key points for special attention, and clinical pitfalls. Guiding references are provided. Performing molar endodontics is often a daunting prospect, regardless of the practice setting. This is where “Molar Endodontics” is an ideal source of guidance for practitioners. Special devices and recent innovations in apex locators and nickel-titanium instruments have, however, made procedures significantly easier and more practical for non-specialists. This book will help conscientious clinicians to master molar endodontics with well-described and established clinical methods.

Book excerpt: Restoration of an endodontically treated tooth, because of the significant loss of tooth structure, often requires additional support from the root canal by means of a post-and core restoration. However, post may generate stresses which lead to vertical root fracture and loss of the tooth. Since post design, material used and the post space preparation has a significant influence on vertical fracture prevalence, broad investigation is in progress to find out the optimum procedure. Esthetic, functional and structural rehabilitation of a pulpless tooth are critically important to ensure a successful restorative outcome. In cases where most of the coronal portion is lost, a common method to restore such teeth is the use of a post and core, onto which a full crown is cemented. The post functions primarily to aid the retention of the restoration and to protect the tooth by dissipating or distributing forces along the tooth. On the contrary, the tooth is weakened if dentin is sacrificed to place a large diameter dowel. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the ability of different types of posts to reinforce endodontically treated teeth.

Book excerpt: Traditional dental materials such as metals and ceramics have a number of disadvantages such as cost and the significant damage caused in grinding to make space for such reconstructions. Fiber-reinforced composites (FRCs) are a novel group of dental materials characterized by fibrous fillers that are being increasingly used in place of traditional prosthodontic materials. They allow fabrication of minimally invasive, lightweight, durable and biocompatible restorations. This book will provide clinicians and students with theoretical and clinical guidelines to use the FRCs for dental applications. The book begins with an introduction to the fundamentals of FRCs in dentistry. Further chapters cover the treatment possibilities, fabrication and application procedures of FRCs, followed by information on care and maintenance. Explores the mechanism of function of fibre-reinforced composites Presents comprehensive information on the expanding field of fibre-reinforced composites and their increasing use in dentistry
