Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you considering facial feminization surgery? Are you transitioning, but have a prominent chin, a heavy brow, or a strong lower jaw that you feel detracts from your femininity? Would you like your appearance to more closely match the way you feel inside? If so, perhaps you're considering facial feminization surgery (FFS). For many transgendered women, having their facial features refined is an important step in their transition. Some individuals consider it the most essential part of their transformation. Jordan Deschamps-Braley, M.D., is an accomplished plastic surgeon who specializes in FFS. His partner, Douglas Ousterhout, M.D., is a pioneer in FFS and has performed these surgeries for decades. Topics they cover include: scalp advancement, forehead feminization, temple augmentation, cheek contouring, nose reshaping, lip reshaping, chin feminization, lower jaw tapering, thyroid cartilage reduction, lower jaw repositioning, upper jaw repositioning, facelifts, and hair transplants. The authors also provide information on the recovery process for each procedure as well as side effects to expect and potential complications. This book also contains before-and-after photos of FFS patients.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the massive influx of women into the labor force as a result of globalization, the gender inqualities at work have remained largely unchanged. This book addresses two related questions: What has prompted the feminization of manufacturing work in developing countries, and why has it failed to significantly erode gender inequalities at work? Teri L. Caraway offers case studies and in-depth analysis of employment changes in Indonesia combined with cross-national data to show that the feminization of the workplace produced by industrialization policies has reconfigured and reproduced, rather than overturned, gender divisions of labor at work. Caraway challenges the conventional wisdom that export-oriented industrialization and women's cheap labor are the driving forces behind feminization. Instead, she argues, the answers can be found in weak unions and current social practice. Caraway employs information about a wide range of industries--capital-intensive, male-dominated, non-export firms as well as female-dominated, labor-intensive, export-oriented industries--in arriving at her conclusions. Her findings will prove discouraging to anyone who hopes that globalization has become a positive force in improving the lives of women workers.Caraway's multilevel methodology for analyzing changes in gendered patterns of employment and her introduction of "gendered discourses of work" as a major explanatory variable will make Assembling Women a valuable resource for women's studies scholars, development economists, political scientists, and sociologists as well as all with an interest in Southeast Asian Studies and labor and industrial relations.

This book was released on 2014-10-29 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you want to feminize a male, or you as a male want, or have been told to, become feminized? Feminization: 1) To give a feminine appearance or character to. 2) To cause (a male) to assume feminine characteristics. This is not for those who wish to permanently change their gender, but rather for those who wish to feminize temporarily, though sometimes repeatedly and regularly, in order to proficiently crossdress as a woman. This feminization guide is for a male by gender who, may, or may not be, a "real" man by some opinions, but nonetheless a male, who has chosen, or has been told to, or is being coerced into, becoming feminine in appearance and character. This guide is to be given to those who have been tasked with becoming a feminized male as part of a process to feminize them, or purchased for use by males who wish to feminize themselves. It doesn't have any magic potions or formulas, special makeup or fancy tools, use any drugs or surgery. It does cover all the aspects of eliminating the 'man markers' that set males aside from women, and make a male less feminine than they could ultimately be. It will demasculinize anything that may have had a masculine overtone with the male. It will also aid the feminized male to feel more sensual and sexy in a feminine role. The guide is short - about 15.000 words and around sixty pages, but covers eliminating the things that keep a male from becoming as fully feminized as much as their male body and characteristics allow. After the male has read this, acted upon this information fully, and practiced, he will be the best feminized male he can be. He will reach crossdressing perfection as a male to female (MTF) cross dresser. He will have the routines of maintenance and upkeep of the feminized male body, which will keep him ready, and most likely anxious, to fairly quickly, crossdress at the request of their wife, mistress, or whim of his own. Whether the reason be from femdom, a wife led relationship, female led relationship, cuckolding, cuckoldry, a hot wife, male chastity, forced crossdressing, forced chastity, female domination, submissive training, sissy training, or purely their own desire to become feminine, a diligent male student who incorporates the information in this guide with passion and drive will become the perfect crossdressing male, as fully feminized as possible. Upon following the elements in this guide, the feminized male will be able to proudly display how feminine he has become to anyone he, or the one who coerced him, choose to. Should this be a singular undertaking, the individual will be able to see and feel the difference in the degree of feminization they have achieved after practicing and perfecting the elements, and thus, bring greater pleasure and satisfaction to the resulting feminization. This will be time consuming and will require dedication and diligence in order for a male to feminize to his best. If you are purchasing this for yourself, or someone else, beware of that in order to allow the necessary time and resources. Look inside now. Buy yourself a copy, or give one to a male you want to feminize. It is a small, but valuable investment in a male's journey toward maximum feminization.

Book excerpt: The Singing Teacher's Guide to Transgender Voices is the first comprehensive resource developed for training transgender and nonbinary singers. This text aids in the development of voice pedagogy tailored to the needs of transgender singers, informed by cultural competence, and bolstered by personal narratives of trans and nonbinary singing students. The singing life of a transgender or nonbinary student can be overwhelmingly stressful. Because many of the current systems in place for singing education are so firmly anchored in gender binary systems, transgender and gender nonconforming singers are often forced into groups with which they feel they don't belong. Singers in transition are often afraid to reach out for help because the likelihood of finding a voice teacher who is competent in navigating the social, emotional, physical, and physiological challenges of transition is minimal at best. This text equips teachers with a sympathetic perspective on these unique struggles and with the knowledge and resources needed to guide students to a healthy, joyful, and safe singing life. It challenges professional and academic communities to understand the needs of transgender singers and provide evidence-based voice education and real-world opportunities that are authentic and genuine. The Singing Teacher's Guide to Transgender Voices is the first book of its kind to provide thorough, organized information on the training of trans singers for educators in both the academic and independent teaching realms.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current preoccupation with the role of women in the church obscures the more serious problem of the perennial absence of men. This provocative book argues that Western churches have become women's clubs, that the emasculation of Christianity is dangerous for the church and society, and that a masculine presence can and must be restored. After documenting the highly feminized state of Western Christianity, Dr. Podles identifies the masculine traits that once characterized the Christian life but are now commonly considered incompatible with it. He contends that though masculinity has been marginalized within Christianity, it cannot be expunged from human society. If detached from Christianity, it reappears as a substitute religion, with unwholesome and even horrific consequences. The church, too, is diminished by its emasculation. Dr. Podles concludes by considering how Christianity's virility might be restored. In the otherwise stale and overworked field of gender studies, The Church Impotent is the only book to confront the lopsidedly feminine cast of modern Christianity with a profound analysis of its historical and sociological roots.

Book excerpt: Essential reading for our times, as women are pulling together to demand their rights— A landmark portrait of women, men, and power in a transformed world. “Anchored by data and aromatized by anecdotes, [Rosin] concludes that women are gaining the upper hand." –The Washington Post Men have been the dominant sex since, well, the dawn of mankind. But Hanna Rosin was the first to notice that this long-held truth is, astonishingly, no longer true. Today, by almost every measure, women are no longer gaining on men: They have pulled decisively ahead. And “the end of men”—the title of Rosin’s Atlantic cover story on the subject—has entered the lexicon as dramatically as Betty Friedan’s “feminine mystique,” Simone de Beauvoir’s “second sex,” Susan Faludi’s “backlash,” and Naomi Wolf’s “beauty myth” once did. In this landmark book, Rosin reveals how our current state of affairs is radically shifting the power dynamics between men and women at every level of society, with profound implications for marriage, sex, children, work, and more. With wide-ranging curiosity and insight unhampered by assumptions or ideology, Rosin shows how the radically different ways men and women today earn, learn, spend, couple up—even kill—has turned the big picture upside down. And in The End of Men she helps us see how, regardless of gender, we can adapt to the new reality and channel it for a better future.

Book excerpt: "While examining colonial culture in its many manifestations, from art, literature, and film to the journals of explorers and missionaries, O'Brien rereads not only the canonical texts of Pacific imperialism, but also lesser-known remnants of this cultural heritage with an eye to what they reveal about gender, sexuality, race, and femininity. Over its long history - from the famous (and much romanticized) settlement of Tahitian women and mutineers from the Bounty on Pitcairn Island in 1789 to the South Seas romantic tradition, Gauguin, and beach culture - notions of female primitivism changed in response to the ideological watersheds of Christianity, Enlightenment science, and race theories, as well as the development of democratic nation-states, modernity, and colonialism.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the oral histories of eighty migrant women and thirty additional interviews with ‘native’ women in the ‘receiving’ countries, this volume documents the contemporary phenomenon of the feminisation of migration through an exploration of the lives of women, who have moved from Bulgaria and Hungary to Italy and the Netherlands. It assumes migrants to be active subjects, creating possibilities and taking decisions in their own lives, as well as being subject to legal and political regulation, and the book analyses the new forms of subjectivity that come about through mobility. Part I is a largely conceptual exploration of subjectivity, mobility and gender in Europe. The chapters in Part II focus on love, work, home, communication, and food, themes which emerged from the migrant women’s accounts. In Part III, based on the interviews with ‘native’ women – employers, friends, or in associations relevant to migrant women – the chapters analyse their representations of migrants, and the book goes on to explore forms of intersubjectivity between European women of different cultural origins. A major contribution of this book is to consider how the movement of people across Europe is changing the cultural and social landscape with implications for how we think about what Europe means. Book excerpt: In his latest book, leading educator and author Kevin Kumashiro takes aim at the current debate on educational reform, paying particular attention to the ways that scapegoating public school teachers, teacher unions, and teacher educators masks the real, systemic problems. He convincingly demonstrates how current trends, like market-based reforms and fast-track teacher certification programs are creating overwhelming obstacles to achieving an equitable education for all children. Bad Teacher! highlights the common ways that both the public and influential leaders think about the problems and solutions for public education, and suggests ways to help us see the bigger picture and reframe the debate. Compelling, accessible, and grounded in current initiatives and debates, this book is important reading for a diverse audience of policymakers, school leaders, parents, and everyone who cares about education. Kevin K. Kumashiro is director of the Center for Anti-Oppressive Education and president-elect (2010–2012) of the National Association for Multicultural Education. He is a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the author of The Seduction of Common Sense: How the Right Has Framed the Debate on America's Schools. Praise for Bad Teacher! “This book could be a springboard for teachers . . . to become more actively involved in advocating for a paradigm shift in our concept of education.” —Grace Lee Boggs, The Boggs Center “Kumashiro is a remarkable sleuth who … shows us how the deck is stacked, how the game is played, who gains, and who loses. Join him in a clarion call to build a Movement to reclaim public education.” —Robert P. This book attacks head-on the ragged patchwork of ‘school reform’ that has left us without even the vocabulary to frame what’s gone wrong.” —Patricia J. Book excerpt: A new way of thinking about data science and data ethics that is informed by the ideas of intersectional feminism. Today, data science is a form of power. It has been used to expose injustice, improve health outcomes, and topple governments. But it has also been used to discriminate, police, and surveil. This potential for good, on the one hand, and harm, on the other, makes it essential to ask: Data science by whom? Data science for whom? Data science with whose interests in mind? The narratives around big data and data science are overwhelmingly white, male, and techno-heroic. In Data Feminism, Catherine D'Ignazio and Lauren Klein present a new way of thinking about data science and data ethics—one that is informed by intersectional feminist thought. Illustrating data feminism in action, D'Ignazio and Klein show how challenges to the male/female binary can help challenge other hierarchical (and empirically wrong) classification systems. They explain how, for example, an understanding of emotion can expand our ideas about effective data visualization, and how the concept of invisible labor can expose the significant human efforts required by our automated systems. And they show why the data never, ever “speak for themselves.” Data Feminism offers strategies for data scientists seeking to learn how feminism can help them work toward justice, and for feminists who want to focus their efforts on the growing field of data science. But Data Feminism is about much more than gender. It is about power, about who has it and who doesn't, and about how those differentials of power can be challenged and changed.
