A brief description of this highly skilled ancient game is given in the book with illustrations of los voldores, the flying pole dancers, in their colorful costumes.Tomás has such devotion and love for his father that he is able to find the courage to succeed in leading the dancers, playing the tunes and, scariest of all, climbing the 80 foot pole ahead of the four men. Playing his flute and dancing at the very top on a small platform, Tomás keeps his promise to his papa and conquers his fears! He feels proud of his accomplishment. An accompanying illustration shows the boy in his beautiful costume, beaming happily.At the story's end there are several questions in both Spanish and English which can promote a conversation about what it means to make and keep a promise.
