With his future homeworld destroyed and a new life in a distant solar system, Maki's father urges him to keep the truth hidden. But Maki's determination knows no bounds. Against all odds, Maki infiltrates the secret service's teleportation room, stumbling upon classified information that propels him into the role of the youngest agent in their ranks. His heroic deeds garner praise, but deep down, he faces an agonizing dilemma: he cannot save his world alone. Bound by a promise to his father, Maki finds himself torn between loyalty and the dire fate of an entire population. Will he dare to defy his father's trust and seek the help he desperately needs? Or will he sacrifice everything in a race against time, knowing that the chairman's massacre will unfold once more? Invaders of the Firesnake is a thrilling tale of bravery, sacrifice, and the resilience of a young hero determined to rewrite the course of history. This captivating story is the third instalment in the second edition of the Plan8 Slaves series. It lays the foundation for the colonisation and de-radiation project of a red-sun world which was tragically hit by a nuclear war, forty years before, as told in Rayner's Cyborg Assassin trilogy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mexica (Aztecs) used a solar calendar made up of eighteen months, with each month dedicated to a specific god in their pantheon and celebrated with a different set of rituals. Panquetzaliztli, the fifteenth month, dedicated to the national god Huitzilopochtli (Hummingbird on the Left), was significant for its proximity to the winter solstice, and for the fact that it marked the beginning of the season of warfare. In The Fifteenth Month, John F. Schwaller offers a detailed look at how the celebrations of Panquetzaliztli changed over time and what these changes reveal about the history of the Aztecs. Drawing on a variety of sources, Schwaller deduces that prior to the rise of the Mexica in 1427, an earlier version of the month was dedicated to the god Tezcatlipoca (Smoking Mirror), a war and trickster god. The Mexica shifted the dedication to their god, developed a series of ceremonies—including long-distance running and human sacrifice—that would associate him with the sun, and changed the emphasis of the celebration from warfare alone to a combination of trade and warfare, since merchants played a significant role in Mexica statecraft. Further investigation shows how the resulting festival commemorated several important moments in Mexica history, how it came to include ceremonies associated with the winter solstice, and how it reflected a calendar reform implemented shortly before the arrival of the Spanish. Focused on one of the most important months in the Mexica year, Schwaller’s work marks a new methodology in which traditional sources for Mexica culture, rather than being interrogated for their specific content, are read for their insights into the historical development of the people. Just as Christmas re-creates the historic act of the birth of Jesus for Christians, so, The Fifteenth Month suggests, Panquetzaliztli was a symbolic re-creation of events from Mexica myths and history.

Book excerpt: Until the age of nine, Samuel J. Harcorne, Jr. lived with his family on the edge of Indian Country in Arkansas and northern Texas. In a time when Indian raids are commonplace, Sam sets out to go West and commences a life-changing journey into the world of the Quahada Comanche. With a quiet confidence empowering him to deal with whatever life hands him, Sam adjusts to his adoption by White Rump, a great Quahada warrior. Within a few years, Sam, now known as Sun Hawk, can no more identify with the white settlers- or his birth parents- than his adoptive family can. And now Sun Hawk sees the white man as an enemy to be vanquished. Hair on Fire is a powerful tale of one young man's coming of age- and his personal liberation under extraordinary circumstances.

Book excerpt: In 1519 Corts sailed from Cuba, leading an expedition of search and discovery of any lands to the west of Cuba. What he found was a land and a civilization that was larger and richer than anything in his wildest dreams. He became compulsively determined to have this new land and its riches as his own. But within the fog that hides the future, it was the Aztec's own beliefs and their complete ignorance of any nations existing beyond the seas that made up the substance of that fog, and led them blindly into a collision with a fate, which time and distance had been ever-ripening. It is through that fog that the Aztec's continuing story and the love affair of Jaguar and Five Rabbit unfolds within a quite unbelievable military struggle for the conquest of Mexico.
