Book Synopsis Principles and Practice of Ground Improvement by : Jie Han
Download or read book Principles and Practice of Ground Improvement written by Jie Han and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-05-26 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gain a stronger foundation with optimal ground improvement Before you break ground on a new structure, you need to analyze the structure of the ground. Expert analysis and optimization of the geo-materials on your site can mean the difference between a lasting structure and a school in a sinkhole. Sometimes problematic geology is expected because of the location, but other times it's only unearthed once construction has begun. You need to be able to quickly adapt your project plan to include an improvement to unfavorable ground before the project can safely continue. Principles and Practice of Ground Improvement is the only comprehensive, up-to-date compendium of solutions to this critical aspect of civil engineering. Dr. Jie Han, registered Professional Engineer and preeminent voice in geotechnical engineering, is the ultimate guide to the methods and best practices of ground improvement. Han walks you through various ground improvement solutions and provides theoretical and practical advice for determining which technique fits each situation. Follow examples to find solutions to complex problems Complete homework problems to tackle issues that present themselves in the field Study design procedures for each technique to simplify field implementation Brush up on modern ground improvement technologies to keep abreast of all available options Principles and Practice of Ground Improvement can be used as a textbook, and includes Powerpoint slides for instructors. It's also a handy field reference for contractors and installers who actually implement plans. There are many ground improvement solutions out there, but there is no single right answer to every situation. Principles and Practice of Ground Improvement will give you the information you need to analyze the problem, then design and implement the best possible solution.
Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Geosynthetic Engineering by : Sanjay Kumar Shukla
Download or read book Fundamentals of Geosynthetic Engineering written by Sanjay Kumar Shukla and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2006-09-12 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Geosynthetic Engineering provides an overview of the basic concepts of this subject, especially meeting the requirements of students in civil engineering as well as of practising civil engineers who have not been educated in geosynthetics during their university training. All major aspects related to the field applications, including application guidelines and descriptions of case studies, have been included with a view to generate full confidence in the engineering use of geosynthetics. The book contains a large number of line drawings, sketches, graphs, photographs, and tables to explain the (basic) concepts of all the topics covered. Intended to explain the fundamentals of geosynthetic engineering. Readers will find this book interactive and wll understand the basic concepts of most of the topics by self-reading only.

Over the past three to four decades, civil engineers have grown increasingly interested
Book Synopsis Publication Index and Retrieval System by : Herner and Company
Download or read book Publication Index and Retrieval System written by Herner and Company and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 'Publication Index and Retrieval System' is designed to facilitate dissemination of the information contained in the more than 200 reports resulting from the Dredged Material Research Program (DMRP) and to foster operational applications of their findings and conclusions. Information referenced in this document is applicable to project environmental assessments, detailed design, construction, and operation and maintenance as well as evaluation under requirements of regulatory functions programs. Chapter 1 contains abstracts of the DMRP Synthesis Reports, which present summaries of findings for each of the major DMRP objectives with emphasis on the significance and application of the information. Chapters 2-9 contain abstracts for each of the detailed reports; the abstracts are identified under the major DMRP objectives. Chapter 10 contains the abstracts of the reports on the field tests and demonstration projects concerned with the effects of dredged material disposal in open water and the use of dredged material for habitat creation. The abstracts are also indexed as follows: subject, geographic location, agency/organization, and author. (Author).

Book Synopsis Selection of Geotechnical Fabrics for Embankment Reinforcement by : T. Allan Haliburton
Download or read book Selection of Geotechnical Fabrics for Embankment Reinforcement written by T. Allan Haliburton and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty-seven commercially available petrochemical-based geotechnical fabrics and one fiberglass fabric were tested and evaluated for suitability as reinforcement in an embankment test section to be constructed on soft foundation at Pinto Pass, Mobile Harbor, Alabama by the U.S. Army Engineer District, Mobile. Both woven and nonwoven fabrics were evaluated. All fabrics were subjected to initial testing in uniaxial tension and fabrics meeting or exceeding project sponsor-established strength criteria were subjected to additional testing for determination of creep behavior, soil-fabric frictional resistance, and effects of immersion and water absorption on developed tensile strength. The effects of specimen width and testing strain rate on uniaxial tension test results were also investigated. Four woven geotechnical fabrics plus the woven fiberglass fabric were found to meet or exceed required tensile strength criteria: Nicolon 66475, Nicolon 66186, Polyfilter-X, Advanced Type I, and Bay Mills 196-380-000 (fiberglass). Both Nicolon materials were found to have minimal creep tendency and strength loss after soaking. Bay Mills 196-380-000 had zero creep tendency and was not tested for soaking strength loss. Minimum soil-fabric frictional resistance for all five fabrics approximated soil alone behavior for a loose relative density condition. All five fabrics were recommended for consideration by the research sponsor for use as embankment reinforcement in test section construction. (Author).
