I am neural activity especially mostly in the more modern outer layer of your brain or, should I say, cortex, reminiscent of that caused by various experiences and sensations but which you can manipulate to your liking, your aims, your desires. Remember me? I come from the simplest reactions to stimuli and instincts; I have evolved the capacity of learning. The more you use me for righteousness, the more sophisticated your ability to anticipate and estimate outcomes. The more you use me for righteousness, the more you will be able to figure solutions to problems. I am of great value to you. I am your psychoanalysis; explore me for if you explore me, I will introduce you to biology, psychology, and even philosophy. Who put this thing together? Me. Who built this? Me. Who do I trust, who do I trust? Me. That is who I trust who am I? I am a thought! Why not get to know me better?

This book was released on 2024-04-13 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parenting is both rewarding and challenging. All first-time parents are only partially prepared to embrace the joys and struggles of parenting. Also, each child, no matter where they are in the birth order in a family, is a unique being, requiring parents to adapt their parenting style to meet the needs and navigate the challenges of each child. The book's information and suggestions are based on the latest research and best practice recommendations in child development and clinical child and adolescent psychology. They also come from the author's experience as a child, adolescent, father, grandfather, clinical child and adolescent psychologist, and educator for child psychology doctoral students and child psychiatry fellows. The first three chapters cover what to expect in each stage of normal development, which provides perspective on what to expect as a child moves from toddler to high schooler. Knowing what to expect provides guidelines for providing appropriate nurturing and structure for each stage of development. Human behavior is all about the brain. Once parents understand the basics of neurodevelopment, they can encourage and support the healthy development of critical executive functions that enable children to learn, adapt to change, interact appropriately with others, and navigate the challenges and disappointments in life. Also, continuously focusing on building and growing connectedness and supporting a healthy lifestyle for all family members substantially contributes to each member's general well-being and for the family unit's good. Chapters four through eight help parents and children develop skills for mutually beneficial interaction. These skills will allow you to avoid and work through conflicts when necessary. Chapters nine through eleven provide how-to guides for handling common parent-child conflict scenarios. Each chapter provides examples and easy-to-follow steps to implement the suggestions for each stage of development: toddler, preschool, school-age, middle school, and high school. The appendix provides guidance on when to seek professional help, links to valuable resources, and directions and charts for implementing evidence-based solutions for parent-child and family problems and promoting positive relationships.

His lifelong business partner approached him on his deathbed and asked if hed like to see his great grandchild. The business executive opened his eyes and whispered in his associates ear, No, my friend, I do not want to know what Ive missed. More and more Americans are missing out on the greatness of their country; its passion for excellence, its commitment to the dignity and self-worth of each individual, and its belief that every person has the right to achieve their own vision for success. Chaos, confusion, disappointment, and hopelessness have pushed and pulled Americans into a state of dependency. From the individual, to the family, to our local communities, Americans are constantly looking for others to solve the problems and challenges they face. This has lead to victimology, class warfare, and ultimately bad public policy where a culture of dependency is becoming the new normal. As people think themselves into believing that they cant make it on their own they are rejecting their own potential and capacity to act. Worse, they are missing out on the person they were destined to become.

Book excerpt: Your parents are growing older and are getting forgetful, starting to slow down, or worse. Suddenly you find yourself at the cusp of one of the most important transitions in your life—and the life of your family. Your parents need you and your siblings to step up and take care of them, a little or a lot. To make the right things happen, you will all need to work together. And yet your siblings may have very different ideas from yours of what’s best for Mom and Dad. They may be completely uninterested in helping, leaving you with all the responsibility. Or they may take charge and not allow you to help, or criticize whatever help you do give. Will you and your siblings be able to reach an understanding and work together, or will the challenges you face tear you apart? Most of us enter this period of our lives unprepared for the difficult decisions and delicate negotiations that lie ahead. This is the first book that provides guidance on the transition from the “old” family to the “new” one, especially for adult siblings. Here you’ll find practical advice on a wide range of topics including • Who will make major medical decisions, manage finances, and enforce end-of-life choices if your parents cannot? And how will this be decided and carried out? • How will you negotiate caregiving issues and deal with unequal contributions or power struggles? • How can inheritance and the division of property, assets, and personal effects be handled to minimize hurt feelings and resentment? • How will you cope with the natural reemergence of unresolved childhood rivalries, hurts, and needs? • How can caring for your parents be an enriching experience rather than a thankless chore? • Most important, how can you ensure the best care for your parents while lessening conflict, guilt, anger, and angst? Written by a veteran journalist who chronicles life and how baby boomers live it, They’re Your Parents, Too! offers all the information, insight, and advice you’ll need to make productive choices as you and your siblings begin to assume your parents’ place as the decision-making generation of your family. Filled with expert guidance from gerontologists, family therapists, elder-care attorneys, financial planners, and health workers; resonant real-life stories; and helpful family negotiation techniques, this is an indispensable book for anyone whose parents are aging.

This book was released on 2017-11-21 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Along with a range of socio-cultural, political and economic concerns, the focus on ‘self’ has been an inevitable assertion of writers during the last quarter of the twentieth century. Individualistic in tone, the contemporary women novelists are trying to portray realistically the predicament of modern women torn between the forces of tradition and modernity, their sense of frustration and alienation, the emotional and psychological turmoil and complexities of man-women relationships and subtleties of feminine consciousness against the persistent patriarchal social set-up. Cognizant of the evils originating from patriarchy, a positive sense of feminine identity has been recognized by them and the result is the emergence of a new woman in Indian society and its concept in the Indian English novel which has assumed a strident posture in the contemporary writings by women. The shift from submission to assertion, acquiescence to resistance and obedience to rebellion, however, has not been abrupt and effortless. Women are still in the process of negotiation with different limiting factors and thresholds of patriarchy to claim their due space and affirm their identity. The present study is an attempt to critically investigate the negotiations with cultural norms by the women characters in the selected novels by the contemporary novelists, namely Manju Kapur and Anita Nair. Almost all the women characters, major and minor, from the selected novels have been considered and positioned as per their ideological leanings and convictions under two thematic chapters namely “Women in the Clutches of Traditional Norms,” and “Tradition to Modernity.” The major issues around which the novels move – education, marriage, gendered space and mother-daughter relationships – are taken up to put them within the contemporary social conditions in which women characters live. The present book is divided into five chapters to make a critical and analytical study of the select novels of these contemporary Indian women writers in English. The present work is focused on five selected novels: Manju Kapur’s “Difficult Daughters”, “Home” and “Custody” and Anita Nair’s “Ladies Coupé” and “Mistress”.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where will postmodern culture lead us in the twenty-first century? Will it destroy traditional cultures together with the old, established religions that were its foundation? These questions and the new concerns they evoke are explored in this important collection of original essays. Contributors challenge entrenched assumptions about what many social scientists consider irreversible cultural trends. These include cultural differentiation, emphasis on individual identity, movement toward religion as a private act rather than a community commitment, and above all, emphasis on the relativity of all knowledge and values. The volume asserts three lines of argument in opposition to these trends. The first is the teleological significance of traditional religions and archaic knowledge. History can be said to have no goal, but the same must not follow for human culture. One can conceive individually of a hundred goals to live for. However, the quality of life cannot be that diverse. Taken to the extreme, cultural particularity and philosophical nihilism are insults to the life that emerged on our planet eons ago. Second, this volume emphasizes moral concern and the importance of universal values. Ideas of human well being have been formulated from ancient times. Religious beliefs invariably contain statements of value in the form of commandments and exhortations that express fundamental goals for a quality of life. Third, the nature of religion and spirituality is discussed. Religion today has become controversial socially, and marginal sociologically. The role of religion in society is sometimes problematic or abused, but it is also underestimated and misunderstood. The authors suggest that contemporary religion might best be viewed as non-ideological spiritual culture. This, in turn, looks to a future in which religion and culture coalesce. This volume includes an international cast of scholars from Japan, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, and Belgium. All have engaged in research outside their own countries. Taken as a whole, this volume addresses issues of interest to those in the fields of futures studies, religion, and philosophy, and in particular those concerned with human agency, personal responsibility, and public choice.
