Book excerpt: On what are you basing this confidence of yours? Have you ever wanted a peek at the devil’s playbook? This six-week Bible study does exactly that, as revealed to us through Isaiah Chapter 36. Utilizing the framework of the king of Assyria’s threats to Judah’s King Hezekiah, this spellbinding Bible study delves into the enemy’s attack strategies and our best defensive tactics, while expounding on God’s purposes and character. This Bible study does a line by line examination of Isaiah Chapter 36 analyzing each statement from the enemy and either provides pragmatic ways to refute the accusations or else demonstrates the fallacy in the enemy’s logic through word studies and other scriptural references. The six weeks of study are grouped into Introduction, Initial Attack, Temptation, The Fall, Choosing to Stand, and Deliverance. Join Liz Lyon-Hall as she: • Delves into subjects such as how God uses Satan for His purposes, suicide, atheism/agnosticism, and the consequences of sin. • Reveals the devil’s weapons including his use of shame, secrecy, doubt, deception, and other strategies targeting Christians today. • Discusses practical ways to counter these attacks. • Encourages stimulating conversations in small group study. God’s character shines through this study to encourage and enlighten readers to fight the good fight.
Book Synopsis Their Master’s Voice by : Chris Woodall
Download or read book Their Master’s Voice written by Chris Woodall and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-11-03 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of the five books that make up the Major Prophets in the Old Testament, three are amongst the largest of the Bible: Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. As if to underscore their Major status, each one is significantly longer than the Minor Prophets combined. Although the specific details of each prophet's contribution differ, a more general overarching theme may be discerned in them all: to remind their respective target audiences of their covenantal obligations. The prevailing human condition throughout the ages ensures that, while circumstances, cultural development, and technological advancements do change with time, the underlying sinful disposition of mankind remains constant in every epoch. Mercifully, God's messages to both victim and perpetrator alike are similarly unchanging. In the stream of progressive revelation, it would be irresponsible simply to dip into the waters of the Old Testament and translate its lessons to our day without due process. That process might include asking certain questions of the texts under consideration. Are the lessons provided by these Old Testament saints applicable to us as Christians in the twenty-first century? Do their words still speak today? Only if Christian believers are still prone to such folly as chasing disposable pleasures instead of choosing meaningful pursuits.
Book Synopsis Great Prayers of the Bible by : Ralph F. Wilson
Download or read book Great Prayers of the Bible written by Ralph F. Wilson and published by . This book was released on 2011-09 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eleven profound prayers teach you the essence of faith and petition. If you're like many believers, you long to pray better, to shake off your dullness of spirit and encounter God more intimately. You want to pray with the courage of Abraham, to beseech God with the courage Moses, but.... There are many examples in the Bible of men and women who prayed fervent, effective prayers that God answered. That's the question: What kinds of prayers does God answer? What kind of faith does God respond to? This book examines in considerable depth eleven amazing prayers. Some are short, others lengthy, but each has something important to teach us. You'll study key prayers of Jesus, Paul, Moses, Abraham, David, Hezekiah, Daniel, and Nehemiah. The aim of this study is to help you develop in prayer, increase your faith, and move you into a new plane of communication with your Father in heaven. However, this is not a course in learning to manipulate God to get your way. It is a study of who God is and how He responds to his children's petitions. Thus it will help you adopt His own heart as you petition your Father. As you model your prayers and your faith after the exemplars put before you in God's holy Word, you'll gradually learn to take your place as one of Jesus' disciples whose prayers move heaven and earth. The book contains 11 lessons that can be used for personal enrichment and by small groups and classes. Preachers and teachers will also find a lot of their word study research done for them, with a number of illustrations and insights for lessons and sermons.

He explains the chain of events that forced astronomers, despite their initial reluctance ("Irritating," said Einstein; "Repugnant," said the great British astronomer Eddington; "I would like to reject it," said MIT physicist Philip Morrison) to accept the validity of the Big Bang and the fact that the universe began in a moment of creation.
Download or read book Unveiled written by Bert Lewis and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-05-07 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world that seeks to dictate the terms of His involvement, a correct view of God is critical. Unveiled is about taking God at His Word, and is both challenging and encouraging to us in our walk with Christ. It is challenging because of its direct appeal to have us consider where we are in our Christian walk, relative to where God would have us be. Unveiled is encouraging; in spite of the many ways in which we fall short of Gods glory, His grace remains. Unveiled brings us back to a God-centered focus. Plain-spoken and practical, Unveiled benefits anyone at any level of spiritual maturity. Spiritual growth occurs day by day as we encounter God. With devotions, combined with prayers and Scripture readings, Unveiled helps you in that encounter. By Gods grace, your faith will grow, your life will be changed, but most importantly, our God will be glorified. Unveiled is one of the most unique devotionals I have seen. The reader is stimulated to read Gods Word and to contemplate complex issues. It is a great tool for growing in the faith and knowing God more intimately. I find it to be a user-friendly devotional with practical concepts for dealing with everyday challenges. Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin, executive vice president, Family Research Council and author of Never Surrender: A Soldiers Journey to the Crossroads of Faith and Freedom

Book Synopsis Bloodline for the Messiah by : A. M. Deigloriam
Download or read book Bloodline for the Messiah written by A. M. Deigloriam and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-09-19 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a detailed analysis of the Messiah's bloodline that reveals many important concepts related to the human condition of mankind. The analysis expands our understanding of the scope of God's love for all of mankind. The bloodline includes God's patriarchs, many godly kings, many women who were gentiles, and men who were evil. The Messiah's bloodline reflects a cross section of mankind and fulfills Old Testament prophecies. The bloodline is the introduction to God's only Son, Jesus, and his life, death, and resurrection. God loves and communes with his creation on a daily basis. The only possible way for God to continue his relationship with man beyond death was to send his only Son to act as an escape for the penalty of sin. At no time has the bloodline of the Messiah been more important than now. The worship of idols and the new paganism of today are very dangerous and extremely contagious to all of mankind. 1 Peter 2:9 reads, "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light."

Book Synopsis The Reshaping of Ancient Israelite History in Chronicles by : Isaac Kalimi
Download or read book The Reshaping of Ancient Israelite History in Chronicles written by Isaac Kalimi and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2005-06-30 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was awarded the 2006 R. B. Y. Scott award, which is awarded annually by the Canadian Society of Biblical Studies in recognition of an outstanding book in the areas of Hebrew Bible and/or the Ancient Near East written by a member of the CSBS. Kalimi catalogues and categorizes the techniques by which the Israelite history in Samuel—Kings is reshaped in the biblical books of Chronicles. The chapters of this study consider the various historiographical and literary changes found in the parallel texts of Chronicles. Because about half of the material in Chronicles is available to us in other biblical sources, comparison of the literary and linguistic devices used by the Chronicler is very revealing. Kalimi considers the ways in which the Chronicler has edited the material available to him, addressing such topics as: literary-chronological proximity, historiographical revision, completions and additions, various kinds of parallelism and literary devices, and so on. A handy compendium of the ways in which the Chronicler treated his material by one of the premier scholars working in the field.
