Book excerpt: Faith In Rhyme: Final Chapter is the fourth and final book in a series of Faith in Rhyme books written by author and poet J. D. Baskin. This book, as did the prior three, contains poems of a wide-ranging subject matter but always pointing, in the end, to God. Each poem tells a story, whether based upon recent headlines, Bible stories, people personally known by the author, or in some cases, simply from the authors imagination. It is the authors prayer that readers will be able to relate to what he has written and that each will receive a blessing. The clear and honest style expressed by the author will appeal to readers of all ages and will inspire them to spend time daily, reflecting on Gods grace and goodness. The books subtitle of Final Chapter indicates that this fourth book will end the series of Faith in Rhyme books written by the author. Any future writings will be under a new series.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents Czeslaw Milosz's poetic philosophy of the body as an original defense of religious faith, transcendence, and the value of the human individual against what he viewed as dangerous modern forms of materialism. The Polish Nobel laureate saw the reductive biologization of human life as a root cause of the historical tragedies he had witnessed under Nazi German and Soviet regimes in twentieth-century Central and Eastern Europe. The book argues that his response was not merely to reconstitute spiritual or ideal forms of human identity, which no longer seemed plausible. Instead, he aimed to revalidate the flesh, elaborating his own non-reductive understandings of the self on the basis of the body's deeper meanings. Within the framework of a hesitant Christian faith, Milosz's poetry and prose often suggest a paradoxical striving toward transcendence precisely through sensual experience. Yet his perspectives on bodily existence are not exclusively affirmative. The book traces his diverse representations of the body from dualist visions that demonize the flesh through to positive images of the body as the source of religious experience, the self, and his own creative faculty. It also examines the complex relations between masculine and feminine bodies or forms of subjectivity, as Milosz represents them. Finally, it elucidates his contention that poetry is the best vehicle for conveying these contradictions, because it also combines disembodied, symbolic meanings with the sensual meanings of sound and rhythm. For Milosz, the double nature of poetic meaning reflects the fused duality of the human self.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting the Truths of the Bible in a Contemporary, Engaging Style With over 300 Inspirational Rhymes The author, Simon Siewsaran, is the Founder and Senior Pastor of the Everlasting Gospel Church (established in 1997), a vibrant community ministry, located at Enterprise, Trinidad. Pastor Siewsaran is also the host of "Don't Give Up," a popular radio broadcast that began in 2001 and is heard throughout Trinidad & Tobago and the southern Caribbean. His early years in ministry were primarily among delinquent youths, including drug addicts, and during this time was himself the target of numerous molestations from fellow villagers. Yet signs and wonders continue to follow this servant of God who has impacted thousands of lives in honour of the Kingdom. His effervescent, lyrical style of preaching endears him to both young and old; and his anointed ministry extends beyond his pastoral duties, most notably as the President of "Touch T&T Ministries," a para-church organization that conducts national events, including crusades, concerts and prayer assemblies. Pastor Siewsaran's missionary trips include the Holy Land - three occasions - Egypt, England, Holland, USA and the Caribbean islands of Antigua, Barbados and St. Lucia. In 1997 he received the title of Jerusalem Pilgrim from Israel's Ministry of Tourism. He is the husband of Johanna and the father of two daughters, Victoria Sarah and Gloria Elizabeth.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Paradise of Martyrs: A Faith Rhyme;, In Five Books Before my Prison-Rhyme, "The Purgatory of Suicides," was finished - thirty years ago - I promised myself to write "The Paradise of Martyrs." A busy life has prevented me from trying to fulfil my promise, in any shape, until very lately. And, even now, I offer but half of my purposed Faith-Rhyme to the world - I mean to the kind people who care to read it. If I do not live to write the other half, these five books are complete in themselves, and will serve to shew what my purpose was; and, perhaps, to over-satisfy many who have, for years, urged me to the fulfilment of my promise. At sixty-eight, one ceases to be sanguine, if not to care, about literary success. I quite expect the critics will cry out, "What tame stuff is this compared with 'the Purgatory'!" Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the most salient and misunderstood aspect of twentieth-century poetry, free verse. Although the form is generally approached as if it were one indissoluble lump, it is actually a group of differing poetic genres proceeding from much different assumptions. Separate chapters on T.S. Eliot, Wallace Stevens, H.D., and William Carlos Williams elucidate many of these assumptions and procedures, while other chapters address more general theoretical questions and trace the continuity of Modern poetics in contemporary poetry. Taking a historical and aesthetic approach, this study demonstrates that many of the forms considered to have been invented in the Modern period actually extend underappreciated traditions. Not only does this book examine the classical influence on Modern poetry, it also features discussions of the poetics of John Milton, Abraham Cowley, Matthew Arnold, and a host of lesser-known poets. Throughout it is an investigation of the prosodic issues that free verse foregrounds, particularly those focusing on the reader's part in interpreting poetic rhythm.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In these pages you'll find a series of short religious rhymes that are easy to remember and perfect for the introduction of children to the concept of religion. Many are not connected to any particular Bible verse while some are, but all with a Biblical theme. I intend these rhymes to reflect the general truth of the Lord's love, concern, and protection of us - a short passage that can be repeated with the intent to remind us that no matter the circumstance, the future is bright. Adults may, also, discover one or two rhymes reflecting a particular thought or incident in their lives. Some might want to print and frame a few of these rhymes to place on display at home, office, or anywhere appropriate
