Book Synopsis Early Transition Metal Clusters with [pi]-donor Ligands by : Malcolm H. Chisholm
Download or read book Early Transition Metal Clusters with [pi]-donor Ligands written by Malcolm H. Chisholm and published by VCH Publishers. This book was released on 1995 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discovery and evolution of oranometallic cluster chemistry is a major event in the development of inorganic chemistry. This is the second volume in the series 'The Chemistry of Metal Clusters' edited by Du Shriver, Herb Kaesz, and Richard Adams. This volume focuses on the chemistry of the early transition elements in their lower and middle oxidation states, i.e., halide, sulfide, oxide, phosphate, alkoxide, and related o-donor ligands. The key feature linking all these complexes in metal-metal bonding is the presence of pi-donor ligands.

Book excerpt: This volume of Inorganic Syntheses spans the preparations of wide range of important inorganic, organometallic and solid-state compounds. The volume is divided into 6 chapters. The first chapter contains the syntheses of some key early transition metal halide clusters and the very useful mononuclear molybdenum(III) synthon, MoCl3(THF)3. Chapter 2 covers the synthesis of a number of cyclopentadienyl compounds, including a novel route to sodium and potassium cyclopentadienide, MC5H5. Chapter 3 details synthetic procedures for a range of metal-metal bonded compounds, including several with metal-metal multiple bonds. Chapter 4 contains procedures for a range of early and late transition metal compounds, each a useful synthon for further synthetic elaboration. Chapter 5 deals with the synthesis of a number of main group compounds and ligands, while Chapter 6 covers teaching laboratory experiments.

Book Synopsis Quantum Chemistry: The Challenge of Transition Metals and Coordination Chemistry by : A. Veillard

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last twenty years, developments of the ab initio metho dologies and of the computing capacities have progressively turned quantum chemistry into a predictive tool for molecular systems involving only light elements. The situation appears less advanced for systems containing transition metal elements where specific difficulties arise, like those 1inked to the quasi-degeneracy of the lowest atomic states. Correlation effects, which are important only for quantitative accuracy in the treatment of molecules made of light elements, need sometimes to be considered even for a qualitative des cription of transition metals systems (like the multiple metal-metal bond). The treatment of atoms of a high atomic number has necessited the development of model potential methods. These difficulties ex acerbate for systems containing several trans ition atoms a correct description of the dichromium molecule Crz still represents a challenge to quantum chemists. Yet many advances have been made recently in the theoretical treatment of these systems, despite the fact that our understanding still remains disparate with a variety of models and methodologies used more or less successfully (one-electron models, explicitly correlated ab initio methods, density functional formalisms). For these reasons, a NATO Advanced Research Workshop was organized to review in detail the state-of-the-art techniques and at the same time the most common applications. These encompass many fields including the spectroscopy of diatomics and small aggregates, structure and reactivity problems in organometallic chemistry, the cluster surface analogy with its implications for heterogeneous catalysis and the description of extended structures.

Book Synopsis Metal Clusters in Chemistry by : Pierre Braunstein
Download or read book Metal Clusters in Chemistry written by Pierre Braunstein and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 2000-01-11 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal cluster chemistry is at the cutting edge between molecular and solid-state chemistry and has therefore had a great impact on the researchers working on organic, coordination, and solid-state chemistry, catalysis, physics, and materials science. The development of new sophisticated synthetic techniques has led to enormous progress in the synthesis of this diverse class of compounds. The number of clusters is growing rapidly, since the possible variations in the metal and ligand sphere are numerous. Modern bonding theories, such as the isolobal principle, have allowed a better understanding of the structures and properties of metal clusters, and thus paved the way for the usage of these versatile materials. Catalysis and nanomaterials are just two of the very promising application-oriented fields. Seventy six contributions, written by world experts in this research field, provide extensive coverage of different aspects of cluster chemistry, ranging from synthesis, structure determination, and dynamics to applications. Up-to-date information, including an impressive collection of structural data and illustrations, extensive coverage of the most important publications of the last decade, and many more features make this three-volume set a complete single-source guide for all researchers working in the area of cluster chemistry.

Book Synopsis Ligated Transition Metal Clusters in Solid-state Chemistry by : Jean-François Halet
Download or read book Ligated Transition Metal Clusters in Solid-state Chemistry written by Jean-François Halet and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-08-29 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume dedicated to the memory of Marcel Sergent who was a leader in this field for many years, addresses past achievements and recent developments in this vibrant area of research. Large classes of ligated transition metal clusters are produced either exclusively or most reliably by means of high-temperature solid-state reactions. Among them, the Chevrel-Sergent phases and related materials have generated enormous interest since their discovery in 1971. Today, these materials and their numerous derivatives still constitute a vivid area of research finding some applications not only in superconductivity, but also in catalysis, optics or thermoelectricity to mention a few.
