This volume contains the most extensive catalog of 3rd Position blues licks and phrases ever written. You will not only learn the common minor form of soloing in 3rd Position, but the less well-known major soloing like that of the great George "Harmonica" Smith. If you are looking to dig deep into the usage of advanced tongue blocking techniques, this will also be a great study for you; many of the songs in this set use tongue blocking and as a focal point. If you are also looking to get into blues chromatic playing, this book is a great primer. Playing blues chromatic is identical in movement, technique, and breath patterns to 3rd Position playing on the diatonic. Written in notation and harmonica tablature. Includes access to online audio.

Book Synopsis Exploring Musical Spaces by : Julian Hook
Download or read book Exploring Musical Spaces written by Julian Hook and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-09-08 with total page 681 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring Musical Spaces is a comprehensive synthesis of mathematical techniques in music theory, written with the aim of making these techniques accessible to music scholars without extensive prior training in mathematics. The book adopts a visual orientation, introducing from the outset a number of simple geometric models--the first examples of the musical spaces of the book's title--depicting relationships among musical entities of various kinds such as notes, chords, scales, or rhythmic values. These spaces take many forms and become a unifying thread in initiating readers into several areas of active recent scholarship, including transformation theory, neo-Riemannian theory, geometric music theory, diatonic theory, and scale theory. Concepts and techniques from mathematical set theory, graph theory, group theory, geometry, and topology are introduced as needed to address musical questions. Musical examples ranging from Bach to the late twentieth century keep the underlying musical motivations close at hand. The book includes hundreds of figures to aid in visualizing the structure of the spaces, as well as exercises offering readers hands-on practice with a diverse assortment of concepts and techniques.

Book Synopsis An Introduction to Probability: A Concise Exploration of Core Concepts by : Y. Mathew
Download or read book An Introduction to Probability: A Concise Exploration of Core Concepts written by Y. Mathew and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2023-11-19 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Introduction to Probability: A Concise Exploration of Core Concepts highlights the fact that the mathematical notion of Probability relies on ratios to give a numeric value to the level of certainty we can have about a particular outcome for an event. As such, the mathematical concept of ratios or fractions, part-whole relationships, is used to begin the exploration of Probability. The book then goes on to explain in simple, direct language, with minimal reliance on complex technical machinery, how to build sample spaces and develop ratios to predict the probability of a selected outcome for an event. An Introduction to Probability: A Concise Exploration of Core Concepts is a reader-friendly exploration of probability. My approach is unique in that I provide extensive verbal explanations of the basic ideas and concepts which underpin Probability with minimal reliance on the usual technical language of Mathematics consisting of symbols and formulae. The text is written to be a gentle, thoughtful, perhaps even playful, exploration of the basic ideas in Probability. This approach is fueled by my desire to explain - not exclusively to present. I think most math books tend to present the material with very sparse or no detailed verbal explanation. In my book, the emphasis is placed on verbally explaining the basic ideas in Probability. I hope the reader finds this approach helpful.

Book Synopsis Automated Taxonomy Discovery and Exploration by : Jiaming Shen
Download or read book Automated Taxonomy Discovery and Exploration written by Jiaming Shen and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-09-28 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a principled data-driven framework that progressively constructs, enriches, and applies taxonomies without leveraging massive human annotated data. Traditionally, people construct domain-specific taxonomies by extensive manual curations, which is time-consuming and costly. In today’s information era, people are inundated with the vast amounts of text data. Despite their usefulness, people haven’t yet exploited the full power of taxonomies due to the heavy curation needed for creating and maintaining them. To bridge this gap, the authors discuss automated taxonomy discovery and exploration, with an emphasis on label-efficient machine learning methods and their real-world usages. Taxonomy organizes entities and concepts in a hierarchy way. It is ubiquitous in our daily life, ranging from product taxonomies used by online retailers, topic taxonomies deployed by news outlets and social media, as well as scientific taxonomies deployed by digital libraries across various domains. When properly analyzed, these taxonomies can play a vital role for science, engineering, business intelligence, policy design, e-commerce, and more. Intuitive examples are used throughout enabling readers to grasp concepts more easily.

Book Synopsis Oil Exploration, Diplomacy, and Security in the Early Cold War by : Roberto Cantoni
Download or read book Oil Exploration, Diplomacy, and Security in the Early Cold War written by Roberto Cantoni and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-03-27 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of oil for national military-industrial complexes appeared more clearly than ever in the Cold War. This volume argues that the confidential acquisition of geoscientific knowledge was paramount for states, not only to provide for their own energy needs, but also to buttress national economic and geostrategic interests and protect energy security. By investigating the postwar rebuilding and expansion of French and Italian oil industries from the second half of the 1940s to the early 1960s, this book shows how successive administrations in those countries devised strategies of oil exploration and transport, aiming at achieving a higher degree of energy autonomy and setting up powerful oil agencies that could implement those strategies. However, both within and outside their national territories, these two European countries had to confront the new Cold War balances and the interests of the two superpowers.
Book Synopsis The Polarization Method of Seismic Exploration by : E.I. Galperin
Download or read book The Polarization Method of Seismic Exploration written by E.I. Galperin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: variegated seismological conditions has been accumulated. The method has been developed further in two main directions: - the perfection of the techniques and equipment of three-component field studies incorporating a continuous control of the identity of equipment both in deep boreholes and on the surface; - the creation of efficient and straightforward software for the automatic processing of PM data. Whereas the early stages of development of the method have been conspicuous chiefly by the use of polarization for the discrimination of the wave field, in recent years the emphasis shifts to the use of polarization parameters to obtain additional information about the Earth. This is especially important, as the polarization parameters are very sensitive to inhomogeneities in cross-section and enable those parameters of the Earth to be studies which cannot be obtained from kinematics. Here one should especially mention the polarization of transverse waves, which can act as one of the most reliable parameters for identifying and studying anisotropic properties of the Earth. At present various modifications of PM are being developed applicable both to uphole - (PM RW = reflected waves method, PM CDP = common-depth-point method, PM refracted-wave method, PM of regional studies utilizing earthquakes) and to downhole observations (PM VSP = vertical seismic profiling). Not all the PM modifications are developing at the same rate. The method which has up to now been developed most extenSively is PM VSP.
Book Synopsis Exploration of a Theory of Internal Audit by : Walter Hendricus Adrianus Swinkels
Download or read book Exploration of a Theory of Internal Audit written by Walter Hendricus Adrianus Swinkels and published by Eburon Uitgeverij B.V.. This book was released on 2012 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Scandals have undermined investor confidence in the management of firms and drawn global attention to how Management Boards of public firms are in-control of their operations. These scandals cleared the way for corporate governance committees to define new requirements on the control systems of public firms. However, the requirements of these committees did not prevent new problems with a number of firms, some of which published an in-control statement. This raises questions with respect to the effectiveness and completeness of the control of these firms, suggesting that possible quintessential elements or aspects are missing. The internal audit profession has been involved only indirectly in the discussion on corporate governance in the Netherlands. This thesis explores a theory of internal audit in relation to the nature and the control systems of Dutch public listed firms. This thesis explores literature and current practices to obtain a clear view of internal audits theoretical and practical contributions to the reasons of existence and scope of work in the control system of a firm"--Cover.
