Book Synopsis Doctoral Dissertations on South Asia, 1966–1970 by : Frank Joseph Shulman
Download or read book Doctoral Dissertations on South Asia, 1966–1970 written by Frank Joseph Shulman and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 2020-09-24 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume gathers the harvest of recent doctoral dissertations on South Asia, principally from North America and Western Europe, but exclusive of theses from universities in South Asia itself. The yield—1305 dissertations based on research carried out during the early and middle nineteen-sixties and brought to completion between 1966 and 1970—is even greater than one would have guessed, eloquent testimony to the expansion of South Asian studies in the West over the last decade. Doctoral Dissertations on South Asia seeks to be a comprehensive compilation of recently completed theses dealing in whole or in part with the former civilizations and the contemporary affairs of Ceylon, India, Nepal and Pakistan. At the same time, this work provides striking testimony of the dynamic growth of Asian Studies outside the subcontinent and particularly in the United States, Great Britain, Germany and France, where most of the major centers of scholarship are presently found. It is an interdisciplinary work covering the natural sciences as well as the humanities and social sciences.

Book Synopsis Beyond Experiments in Development Economics by : J. Edward Taylor
Download or read book Beyond Experiments in Development Economics written by J. Edward Taylor and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2014-07-10 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides researchers, students, and practitioners with a methodology to evaluate the impacts of a wide diversity of development projects and policies on local economies. Projects and policies often create spillovers within project areas. LEWIE uses simulation methods to quantify these spillovers. It has become a complement to randomized control trials (RCTs), as governments and donors become interested in documenting impacts beyond the treated, comparing the likely impacts of alternative interventions, and designing complementary interventions to influence program and policy impacts. It is also a tool for impact evaluation where RCTs are not feasible. Chapters 1-4 motivate and present the basics of impact simulation, including how to design a LEWIE model, how to estimate the model, and how to obtain the necessary data. The remaining chapters provide a diversity of interesting real-world applications and extensions of the basic models. The applications include evaluations of the impacts of cash transfers for the poor, ecotourism, global food-price shocks, irrigation projects, migration, and corruption. Each chapter provide readers with the tools they need to conduct their own local economy-wide impact evaluations. All models and data used in this book are available on-line.

Download or read book Equilibrium Models in an Applied Framework written by Ronny Norén and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-02-26 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives the historical development, explanations of technical specifications, and a basic understanding of how to use different equilibrium models in an applied framework. It contains an accessible analytical survey of economic equilibrium models, including multi-sector programming models (linear and quadratic) and the computable general equilibrium (CGE) model. The book introduces the importance of disinvestment, and hence, a model of economic transformation is developed. Finally, the globalisation process of the production system is examined. The equilibrium models in this book are presented in an easy way. Although the book is primarily written for advanced undergraduates and beginning graduates, the reading of the book will appeal to anyone interested in economic theory and applied modelling in the field of economics.
