Book Synopsis Experiments on the Thermal Performance of Ribbon Parachutes by : C. J. Scott
Download or read book Experiments on the Thermal Performance of Ribbon Parachutes written by C. J. Scott and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental heat transfer studies were conducted on full scale ribbons of flat circular type parachutes having a geometric porosity of 20.5 percent. A pressurized subsonic wind tunnel served as the flow facility. The average approach flow velocity was 134 feet per second. The measurements were made in the Reynolds number range of one million to ten million, where the Reynolds number is based on the ribbon width of 2.1 inches and on the velocity and temperature of the flow in the slots between the ribbons. The pressure ratio applied to the ribbon was varied from 1.4 to 26.3. Using a transient energy balance, local and average heat transfer data were obtained and compared with available analyses.
Book Synopsis Experimental Studies for Determining Heat Transfer on the Ribbons of Fist Type Parachutes by : P. A. Schoeck
Download or read book Experimental Studies for Determining Heat Transfer on the Ribbons of Fist Type Parachutes written by P. A. Schoeck and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental heat transfer studies were conducted on models representing the ribbons of Fist type parachutes. The measurements were made in the Reynolds number ranges from .03 x 105 to .6 x 105 and from 2.5 x 105 to 5 x 105 where the Reynolds number is based on ribbon width and on the average velocity and properties in the slots between the ribbons. Low ratios of the pressure upstream and downstream of the models were connected with the small Reynolds number tests and high pressure ratios with the large Reynolds number experiments. The effect of ribbon spacing (porosity) upon the heat transfer was investigated. The data are presented in dimensionless form. The data can be used for the prediction of convective heat transfer rates on Fist type parachutes during descent.

Book Synopsis Recovery System Design Guide by : E. G. Ewing
Download or read book Recovery System Design Guide written by E. G. Ewing and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document serves as the third revision of the USAF Parachute Handbook which was first published in 1951. The data and information represent the current state of the art relative to recovery system design and development. The initial chapters describe representative recovery applications, components, subsystems, material, manufacture and testing. The final chapters provide empirical data and analytical methods useful for predicting performance and presenting a definitive design of selected components into a reliable recovery system.
Book Synopsis An Experimental Study of the Distribution of Convective Heat Transfer to a Large-scale Model of Parachute Cloth by : Ernst Rudolf Georg Eckert
Download or read book An Experimental Study of the Distribution of Convective Heat Transfer to a Large-scale Model of Parachute Cloth written by Ernst Rudolf Georg Eckert and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiments on pressure distribution and heat transfer on a grid simulating a parachute cloth were performed. The porosity of the grid was 25%. A pressurized wind-tunnel served as the flow facility. The average approach of the flow was 134 feet per second. The pressure ratio Pup/Pdown was considered as the main variable and varied from around 11 to 1.45. A transient energy balance was used to calculate local heat transfer. (Author).

Book Synopsis Studies of Aerodynamics, Dynamics, and Stress Analysis of Ribbon Parachutes by : Sandia Corporation
Download or read book Studies of Aerodynamics, Dynamics, and Stress Analysis of Ribbon Parachutes written by Sandia Corporation and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The following report describes the continuation of wind tunnel data evaluation as shown in Progress Reports 3 through 14 under Sandia Coropration Contract 63-2241 amd 02-4022, Ref 1 to 13. The data presented in this report are related to disreefing tests of a conical ribbon parachute with 140° included angle, concentric rings, and 25% geometric porosity. The data concerning the canopy profile and pressure distributions will be presented in chronological order starting at the time of disreefing and proceeding through inflation at various time intervals until steady state conditions for the fully inflated parachute are reached. The recorded and derived data recorded and derived data are used to obtain-force time histories which can be compared with a measured force-time recording. Also, so called radial force coefficients are derived which are based on the established canopy profiles and the related pressure data.

Book Synopsis Development of New Ribbons and Webbings for High Performance Parachutes by : R. H. Ericksen
Download or read book Development of New Ribbons and Webbings for High Performance Parachutes written by R. H. Ericksen and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Development of a 46 ft ribbon parachute required design of new and improved narrow fabrics. These included a lightweight, low porosity, 550 lb reinforced selvage nylon ribbon; a low porosity 1000 lb nylon ribbon; and a 2400 lb Kevlar webbing. Tensile elongation, lateral contraction, and other mechanical properties were measured as a function of load at room and elevated temperature to evaluate the fabrics and determine possible sources of parachute porosity variation. The property changes were too small to cause the parachute porosity to change significantly during deployment. Broken fill yarns observed in some Kevlar suspension line webbing after parachute deployment led to high rate laoding tests to investigate conditions that might cause fill breakage. It was shown that fill damage did not reduce the strength of Kevlar suspension lines.
