Download or read book Turbomachine Blade Vibration written by J. S. Rao and published by New Age International. This book was released on 1991 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue Failures Of Blades Is One Of The Most Vexing Problems Of Turbomachine Manufacturers, Ever Since The Steam Turbine Became The Main Stay For Power Generating Equipment And Gas Turbines Are Increasingly Used In The Air Transport. The Problem Is Very Complex, Involving The Excitation Due To Aerodynamic Stage Interaction; Damping Due To Material Deformation, Friction At Slip Surfaces And Aerodynamic Damping; Vibration Of An Asymmetric Aerofoil Tapered Along Its Length And Mounted On A Rotating Disc At A Stagger Angle. The Problem Is Also Governed By Heat Transfer Analysis And Thermal Stresses. His Book Deals With A Basic Understanding Of Free Vibratory Behaviour Of Turbine Blades- Free Standing, Packetted, And Bladed-Discs. The Analysis Is Based On Continuous And Discrete Models Using Energy Principles And Finite Element Techniques. A Clear Understanding Of The Interference Phenomenon In A Thin Cambered Airfoil Stage In Subsonic Flow Is Presented To Determine The Nonsteady Excitation Forces Acting On The Blades. A Comprehensive Treatment On The Blade Damping Phenomenon That Occurs In Turbines Is Given. The Nonlinear Damping Models Account For Material Damping And Friction Damping As A Function Of Rotational Speed For Each Mode. Resonant Response Calculation Procedures For The Steadily Running As Well As Accelerating Blades Are Given.Cumulative Damage Calculations Are Then Outlined For Fatigue Life Estimation Of Turbomachine Blades. The Book Also Deals With Heat Transfer Analysis And Thermal Stress Calculations Which Help In A Comprehensive Understanding Of The Blade Problems.
Book Synopsis Shallow Water Analogy Study of a Supersonic Cone-decelerator System by : Helmut G. Heinrich
Download or read book Shallow Water Analogy Study of a Supersonic Cone-decelerator System written by Helmut G. Heinrich and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiments in shallow water analogy facilities were made in order to establish geometric configurations of cone-decelerator systems which in supersonic flow are stable and have practically steady flow pattern. Three configurations evolved which maximum diameters amount to to 2.10, 1.71, and 1.55 cone base diameters. The experiments provided also the decelerator inlet and outlet areas as well as the decelerator standoff distance behind the cone base. Also, area ratios were calculated in view of the flow pattern observed in the water analogy experiments. The calculated and emperically derived area ratios agree reasonably well. Wind tunnel models were designed in view of experience gained in these studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book tells the story of the power generation gas turbine from the perspective of one of the leading companies in the field over a period of nearly 100 years, written by an engineer. Especially in times of imminent global economic crises it appears to be worthwhile to reflect on real economic values based on engineering ingenuity and enduring management of technological leadership. Though the book is primarily designed as a technical history of the BBC/ABB/Alstom power generation gas turbines, its scope is sufficiently broad to cover general development trends, including parallel competitor activities. A special benefit is the historical breakdown to the gas turbine component level, so that the book actually outlines the development of axial compressors from early beginnings, the progress in combustion technology towards extraordinary low emission values and that of axial turbines with special emphasis on early turbine cooling innovations. The sheer length of certain engineering developments over several decades allows interesting historic observations and deductions on inherent business mechanisms, the effects of technology preparations and organisational consequences. A look into the mirror of the past provides revelations on the impact of far-reaching business decisions. 2017 Winner of the Historian Engineer Award of the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers
Book Synopsis Supersonic Cascade Studies. Part 1. Passage Studies by :
Download or read book Supersonic Cascade Studies. Part 1. Passage Studies written by and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental study was made of supersonic flow through various convergent and convergent-divergant passage configurations. The details of the flows were examined by means of total and static pressure surveys and Schlieren photographs and the effects of some changes in passage geometry on the characteristics of the passages were observed. Based on the tests, some design criteria were determined for supersonic passages capable of operating at high static pressure ratios. It was concluded that long and narrow convergent- divergent passages are capable of producing a significant pressure rise without extensive separation in the divergent region. However, the values of obtainable pressure rise appears to be substantially lower than anticipated by early designers of supersonic compressor cascades.
