Book Synopsis Exciting Physics With New Accelerator Facilities - Proceedings Of The International Workshop by : Hiroshi Toki
Download or read book Exciting Physics With New Accelerator Facilities - Proceedings Of The International Workshop written by Hiroshi Toki and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-10-07 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume discusses the exciting physics with new accelerator facilities, which are being constructed or proposed in various places. The facilities are RHIC (Brookhaven), CEBAF (TJINP), SPring-8 (Nishi-Harima), RIBF (RIKEN), JHP (KEK-INS), RIB (MSU), LISS (IUCF) and COSY (Juelich). RHIC aims at the creation of a QCD deconfinement phase and the study of the properties of such matter. CEBAF and SPring-8 use leptons to probe the quark-gluon structures of hadrons and nuclei. LISS and COSY use high resolution hadron beams to study hadron structures. JHP produces strong secondary hadron beams for hyper-nuclear physics and rare decay studies of basic symmetries. RIBF and RIB produce radioactive nuclear beams for the study of the nuclear structure of unstable nuclei far from beta stability, and astrophysics issues.

Book Synopsis The Proceedings of the International Symposium on Nuclear Electro-Weak Spectroscopy for Symmetries in Electro-Weak Nuclear-Processes by : H. Toki
Download or read book The Proceedings of the International Symposium on Nuclear Electro-Weak Spectroscopy for Symmetries in Electro-Weak Nuclear-Processes written by H. Toki and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NEWS99 international symposium discusses symmetries in electroweak processes in nuclei. Many phenomena in nuclear and particle physics are related to symmetry. It is known that we are living in a left-handed world as far as the Weak interaction is concerned, but neutrino physics suggests that a right-handed world may also be relevant. Chiral symmetry and its breaking plays an essential role in generating hadron masses. Symmetries related to flavor in the strong interaction like isospin, SU(3) and so on are known to be violated although they play a crucial role for the understanding of phenomena in nuclear and particle physics. The treatment of tiny breaking is of particular importance. Weak and electromagnetic interactions are well established at the fundamental level and can be used to probe the structure of nuclei and hadrons. A wide variety of phenomena in nuclear and particle physics were discussed in NEWS99 with an emphasis on symmetry. Topics ranged from nuclear structure to neutrino properties,,covering highly phenomenological to fundamental fields.

Book Synopsis Accelerator Physics, Technology and Applications by : Alexander Wu Chao
Download or read book Accelerator Physics, Technology and Applications written by Alexander Wu Chao and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004-02-20 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally invented for generating the first artificial nuclear reactions, particle accelerators have undergone, during the past 80 years, a fascinating development that is an impressive example of the inventiveness and perseverance of scientists and engineers. Since the early 1980s, accelerator science and technology has been booming. Today, accelerators are the prime tool for high energy physics to probe the structure of matter to an unknown depth. They are also, as synchrotron radiation sources, the most versatile tool for characterizing materials and processes and for producing micro- and nanostructured devices. The determination of the structure of large biomolecules is presently among the best examples of the application of synchrotron radiation. Finally, accelerators have grown more and more important for medicine, which is relying on them for advanced cancer therapy and radio-surgery. And there are more applications, including the generation of neutrons for materials science, the transmutation of nuclear waste with simultaneous production of electrical power, the sterilization of medical supplies and of foodstuff, and the inspection of trucks by customs or security services. This book is meant to provide basic training in modern accelerators for students, teachers, and interested scientists and engineers working in other fields. It is a result of the 3rd International Accelerator School, held in 2002 in Singapore under the auspices of the Overseas Chinese Physics Association (OCPA). Reputable experts, including a recent prize-winner, cover the field of cyclic and linear accelerators from the basic theoretical tools to forefront developments such as the X-ray free electron laser or the latest proton therapy facilities under construction. Accelerators, the art of building them, and the science for understanding their function have become a very exciting field of research. This book conveys the excitement of the experts to the reader. The proceedings have been selected for coverage in: • Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings® (ISTP® / ISI Proceedings) • Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings (ISTP CDROM version / ISI Proceedings) • CC Proceedings — Engineering & Physical Sciences Contents:Particle Accelerators: An Introduction (C Zhang)A Guided Survey of Synchrotron Radiation Sources (H O Moser)Transverse Beam Dynamics: Linear Optics (Q Qin)Transverse Beam Dynamics: Closed Orbit Correction and Injection (C-C Kuo)Transverse Beam Dynamics: Dynamic Aperture (Q Qin)Longitudinal Beam Dynamics — Energy Oscillation in an Electron Storage Ring (Y Jin)Photoinjectors (I Ben-Zvi)Synchrotron Radiation (C T Lee)Lattice Design for Synchrotron Radiation Source Storage Rings (Y Jin)Spallation Neutron Source and Other High Intensity Proton Sources (W Chou)RF Electron Linac and Microton (S-H Wang)Collective Beam Effects in Storage Rings (Z Guo)Designing Superconducting Cavities for Accelerators (H Padamsee)Accelerator Magnets: Dipole, Quadrupole and Sextupole (C S Hwang)Emittance and Cooling (C T Lee)RF Systems for Light Source Storage Rings (Z T Zhao)Vacuum System (J R Chen)RFQ Design and Performance (J Fang)Insertion Devices: Wigglers and Undulators (C S Hwang)Medical and Industrial Applications of Electron Accelerators (Y Lin)High Gain Free Electron Lasers (L H Yu)Proton Therapy: Accelerator Aspects and Procedures (H-U Klein & D Krischel)Introduction to Synchrotron Radiation Applications (H O Moser et al.) Download or read book Exclusive Reactions at High Momentum Transfer IV written by A. V. Radyushkin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2011 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Proceedings include talks given at the 4th Workshop on Exclusive Reactions at High Momentum Transfer at Jefferson Lab, Newport News, VA, USA, the world''s leading facility performing research on nuclear, hadronic and quark-gluon structure of matter. Exclusive reactions are becoming one of the major sources of information about the deep structure of the nucleons and other hadrons. The workshop focused on the application of a variety of exclusive reactions at high momentum transfer, utilizing unpolarized and polarized beams and targets, to obtain information about nucleon ground state and excited state structure at short distances. This is a subject which is central to the programs of current accelerators and especially planned future facilities. The topics include: generalized parton distributions, deeply virtual Compton scattering, deeply virtual meson production (DVMP), transverse structure of hadrons (TMD), hadron form factors - elastic and transition, quantum chromodynamics (perturbative, non-perturbative, lattice calculations), and physics to study at an Electron Ion Collider.
